The Czech writer Josef Škvorecký is born in Náchod, Czechoslovakia, in 1924. Škvorecký graduated in 1943 from the Reálné gymnasium in his native Náchod. During the War he spent two years as a slave labourer in a German aircraft factory. After the Second World War, he started studying at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. Having finished the first term, he left the Faculty of Medicine for the Faculty of Arts. He studied English and Philosophy. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1951.In 1952 - 1954, he performed his military service in the Czechoslovak army. He wrote his first novel, Zbabělci (The Cowards), between 1948 and 1949. Set during the last days of the Second World War, the novel was criticized when first published in 1958 for not depicting this historical event in a more heroic, Socialist-Realist manner. As a result, Škvorecký was unable to publish again until the early 1960s. Škvorecký received his doctorate in English literature at Charles University in Prague in 1951, after which he took up a career as a teacher and editor.

A relationship between velocity and accuracy of chosen type of shooting in teamhandball
Šetelík, Martin ; Tůma, Martin (advisor) ; Pravečková, Petra (referee)
Title: A relationship between velocity and accuracy of chosen type of shooting in team- handball Goals: The goal of this thesis is finding of relationship between velocity and accuracy of team handball throws because these factors influence the number of scored goals which arbitrate about results of each match. Methods: The thesis is divided into 2 parts: theoretic which putts together actual knowledge about this topic and and practical part which presents practical measurement and its results. Study of relationship between velocity and accuracy is based on practical measurement of chosen group of team handballers. The measurement itself consists of four chosen types of shots. We studied velocity of shots and their accuracy during shooting on selected places. For measuring velocity is used radar device Stalker. Measured values were statistically elaborated in programs Microsoft Excel 2007 and Statistica. Results: The results of this thesis demostrate relatively high relationship between velocity and accuracy. Accurate throws (60 and more percent succesful trys) reached velocity equal to 95% of maximal velocity. This velocity was the average of five throws with a maximum exertion to achieve maximal speed. Key words : team handball - shooting velocity - shooting accuracy

Tobacco products, their composition, adverse health effects and prevention
Faustová, Lenka ; Bártová, Jiřina (advisor)
Modern time pose heavy claims to people in career as well as in personal sphere; which move towards increasing one's stress. Not anybody can bear up against stress well, therefore people often "helps" themselves by smoking tobacco. The "help" often comes to a nicotine dependency, which seemingly fights against the stress. Children start smoking sooner and sooner. The score is ill-timed knowing about health hazards and recently growing busyness of their parents who spend less time with children and education becomes ineffective. This study should help you to get compact view of tobacco problem, its impressions and incidence to organism and shows some possibilities how to give up smoking. It also affects nonsmokers preventively.

Riebová, Eva ; Rakušanová, Marie (referee) ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor)
The thesis "Frank Stella/Milan Grygar - The Space Inside and Outside of the Picture" is an comparative paper concerning different artistic phases in the work of Frank Stella and Milan Grygar. The thesis focuses on the analysis of the pictorial space. The opening chapter introduces a brief description of the early work of both artists. Then pictures from the series with the same title Black paintings (Černé obrazy) are confronted. The comparison stresses out the differences between pictorial space in Stella's Black paintings and the one in Grygar's Černé obrazy. On the contrary, the following chapter points out the similarities in the spatial solution of the paintings from the series Exotic Birds by Frank Stella and Hmatové kresby (Tactile Drawing) by Milan Grygar.

The introduction titled "Art and theology" is about the relationship between the modern Christian painting and theology. The artistictheological discussion cannot be separated from historical outlook or problems, which are closely connected with a question: Under what conditions and by the use of which artistic technique should we depict the likeness of God?

The term "Romand literature" and the role of publishers in the formation of literary life in francophone Switzerland in the 20th century
Břečková, Veronika ; Pohorský, Aleš (advisor) ; Hrbata, Zdeněk (referee) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
This dissertation contributes to the studies of Francophone literatures in Czech universities by presenting Swiss French written literature, called "Romand literature" in Switzerland, and explaining the role that Swiss publishers played in the formation of literary life in the second half of the 20th century, precisely from the end of the Second World War to the beginning of the 1980s. The term "Romand literature" is explained in connection with the conception and evolution of other Francophone literatures and their particular emancipation efforts in the 20th century. The answer to the question of what the identity of Romand literature is and how this literature might be defined is found in the process of institutionalization of Romand literature, and here the institution of the publisher is at the center of interest. Other literary institutions - in the sociologic notion of social structures and relations having a relative authority in the defined space and time - such as Romand literary reviews, literary critics and history, universities, and literary awards are presented in relation to the notion of Romand literature and to the institution of a publisher. The dissertation takes into consideration the main events in the evolution of literary institutions in the first half of the 20th century. The...

Title: Detection systems for measurements of high-temperature plasma radiation on the COMPASS tokamak by fast bolometers and soft X-ray detectors Author: Miroslav Vácha Department: Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics Supervisor: Mgr. Vladimír Weinzettl, Ph.D., Institute of Plasma Physics AS CR, v.v.i. Supervisor's e-mail address: vwei@ipp.cas.cz Abstract: Multi-channel spectroscopic diagnostics on the COMPASS tokamak com- prising AXUV-based bolometers, soft X-ray (SXR) and visible light detectors will cover a wide spectral range of the core and edge plasma emission, aiming to realize a fast tomography at microsecond time scales. This thesis reports on a development of the bolometric and SXR diagnostics. First, procedures of the detector selection and their tests are described. There the design and tests of the special complex port plug, com- bining both detection systems, taken into account a strongly limited available space, a heat protection and a shielding during a cleaning glow discharge, is also summarized. Development of new electronic amplifiers and their connection with the data acquisition system is documented. In the last chapters, basic methods for analysis of data collected using these diagnostic systems are introduced. Keywords: tokamak, plasma radiation, photodiode, tomography
