Development and current mortality and health patterns in Europe
Liguš, David ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kraus, Jaroslav (referee)
This diploma thesis sets up two main aims: the first one is based on evaluation of mortality trends in European states using indicator life expectancy at birth and infant mortality rate. Development of age structure, indicators of demographic ageing and main causes of death is analyzed more in detail for five European states, Sweden, France, Italy, Czech Republic and Latvia. Second aim of this thesis is to describe differences of health status in Europe using descriptive statistics and cluster analysis. In this part of the thesis the differences among European states are evaluated using: health expectancy by self- perceived health, health expectancy by chronic morbidity and health expectancy based on disability. All variables are analyzed at age 65 and more and 80 and more. Conclusion of this thesis answers the question, if the Europe is, after more than twenty years, still divided from the perspective of mortality and health patterns between West Europe and former Eastern Bloc countries. Diversity of freshwater epigean amphipods
Rutová, Tereza ; Petrusek, Adam (advisor) ; Sacherová, Veronika (referee)
Gammarids, the most diverse group of Amphipoda are present in marine, brackish and fresh waters. In freshwater there are forms inhabiting the surface (epigean) and underground (hypogean) habitats and this thesis will be focused on epigean freshwater groups. Freshwater gammarids inhabit the continental waters of all continents, but the highest species diversity is evident in the Palearctic region. However they cannot be found in the surface waters of the tropical regions. These amphipods are characterized by the absence of any resistant or larval stages. Thus the present diversity and distribution reflects historical events like the fluctuation in sea levels, orogeny or period of glaciation from the Paleocene to the present. The goal of this thesis will be to summarize which processes and in which period the diversity of freshwater epigean amphipods were affected. One part of this thesis is dedicated to the families occurring in Australia (Chiltonidae), New Zealand (eg. Phreathogammaridae) and the North and the South America (Hyalellidae). The main focus is on family Gammaridae in which according to recent studies should include lineages occurring in the entire Palearctis including endemic groups in the Lake Baikal and across the Ponto-Caspian area. In the history of the development of gammarids...

Dvořáková, Kristýna ; Dohnalová, Marie (advisor) ; Šloufová, Romana (referee)
This diploma thesis investigates the sources of finance for Czech social enterprises. It comprises of two parts - the Theoretical Part and the Empirical Part. The Theoretical Part is divided into 5 chapters. In these chapters, I start by defining concepts that relate to social enterprises. Then, I explain theories of the establishment of social enterprises and two traditional approaches to this establishment, a European approach and an American approach. Finally, I focus primarily on funding possibilities for Czech social enterprises. The Empirical Part, consisting of 6 chapters, is a case study of two Czech social enterprises - (1) Ethnocatering, which is established by an unincorporated association InBáze, and (2) Rettigovky, operating under a charitable trust Komuniké. The aim of this diploma thesis is, first, to find out similarities and differences in the sources of finance between the two Czech social enterprises, which are established on the basis of two distinct traditional approaches, and, second, to ascertain which traditional approach is better for Czech conditions and why. Islam in Czech Culture
Bellu, Alexander ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Gebelt, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the presence of Muslims and Islam in the Czech area. Its ambition is to describe the current state, orientation, integration and current public perceptions of Muslim communities in the Czech Republic. For a more comprehensive mapping of the Muslim aspect in the Czech area, the work could not avoid, albeit in a nutshell, certain socio-historical events that could affect actual perceptions of Muslims and Islam by Czech citizens. It describes not only Islamic themes in the literary production in Bohemia and Moravia but also the influence of Islamic science in the Middle Ages and its reflection on the works of Czech scholars. Another part of the text deals with Islam in the Czech Republic in terms of its inclusion in the legislation. Subsequent chapters follow the Muslim community in the Czech Republic, their charity work and degree of integration. The main method of the work is the selection and analysis of selected relevant literary, journal and scientific texts, i.e. texts mentioning Islam on Czech territory from the Middle Ages to the present.

Demographic aging by standard and alternative indicators in selected countries of Europe and their regional differentiation at NUTS2 level
Klapková, Michaela ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Demographic aging by standard and alternative indicators in selected countries of Europe and their regional differentiation at NUTS2 level Abstract Demographic aging is often called a phenomenon of the 21st century. However, it is a natural process, which we more or less consciously influence. Population aging is the result of improving the health status of the population and enhancing the quality of human life that has already begun in the 18th century in the context of demographic revolution. The current concern about the sustainability of national social systems in the context of population aging are obviously reasonable, but these concerns are based on the standard characteristics of the age structure, which often use a fixed age of entry into the final stage of life. However, with the lengthening of human life the natural boundaries of old age changes. Alternative indicators on the basis of the concept of prospective age do not use the number of years a person has already lived, but on the number of years that a person will probably live. Paper compares the development of standard and alternative indicators in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Germany in the years 2000-2013 and focuses also on regional differentiation at the NUTS2 level of selected regions in northern, western, eastern and southern...

A. I. Herzen's concept of Russia
Kožíšková, Lenka ; Nykl, Hanuš (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
The thesis focuses on different conceptions of Russia developed throughout the philosophical- journalistic and prose works of an eminent Russian thinker of the 19th century - Alexander Herzen, who had lived and worked in Russia and later on continued his work as emigrant elsewhere in Europe. Applying E. Said's Orientalism, I. Buruma's and A. Margalit's Occidentalism, and A. Etkind's internal colonization, a representative sample of Hezen's work has been analyzed to embrace the changes of the author's perception of Russia. In particular, Etkind's concept is used to bridge the divergence between a conventional understanding of Orientalism directed upon Middle East and the canonical texts of the Russian 19th century (pre-revolutionary) intelligentsia. Herzen's work has been thus situated within the context of postcolonial studies. The analysis studies the images and scenes used by Herzen to build up his ideas and understandings of Russia and Europe, or more precisely his constructions of East and West, indirectly intertwined with the social characteristics of Russia and his various conceptions, including the imaginary role of Russian intelligentsia and the author's own role in Russia and Europe.
