About the Relationship of Humility and Pride

This thesis deals with the research of humility from the view of its elusiveness - it does not define humility and it also does not even try to do so. Conversely, it walks around the phenomenon of humility and points at it in different ways. It uses examples, mostly from works of Comenius, and builds it with parallels from works of Jung, Foucault, Jünger, Drewermann and some other authors. It delimits humility against pride at example of different view of "epoché" in works of Comenius and Descartes; pride is basicly seen where human does not leave any unnaturalness and completely absorbs the world by his own opinion; work also uses Husserl's criticism of Descartes' view of "epoché" and Comenius' criticism of Machiavelli is also mentioned. Thence, the thesis sees the principle of humility in a close relation with the principle of faith or simply with the knowledge of the principle of some higher instance than the human's own sense is. The principle of humility is also nearby to the principle of grace - for this example the thesis researches Simone Weil's concept of "weight and grace"; grace from this point of view is an unpredictable step outside the performance-based part of human life. The Grace Working in the States of Life

The Grace Working in the States of Life The work procedes with the view of God's grace as the special gift for each state of life. I come from the fact that man, without God, who created him was not anything that was created by God. Without his grace could not even reach salvation. It treats also basic division of the grace to ,sanctifying grace and sacramental graces. The work of grace in human life is discussed in the section calling and election. Implementation of life in grace is developed in four states of life: lay, consecrated, the ministerial priesthood and married state. The Puritan view of death: attitudes toward death and dying in Puritan New England

The Puritan attitude toward death in seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century New England was ambivalent and contained both terror at the possibility of eternal damnation and hope for deliverance. The joyful theme of the migratio ad Dominum resonated with the Saints only at times when they were convinced divine grace was actively working in their lives, but when they saw they were backsliding, the horror of death prevailed. Puritan anxiety about death was caused by tensions inherent in the doctrine of predestination, which implied man's dependence on God's inscrutability, and in the doctrine of assurance, which implied that self-doubt was more desirable than full assurance of salvation. What complicated any verification of the presence of grace was man's endless potential for self-deception. Memento mori gave urgency to the Puritan work ethic and the effective use of time. The anxiety about one's destiny began in early childhood when death and its ensuing horrors for the depraved were used as a means of religious instruction to provoke spiritual precocity and conversion. This early immersion into the discourse about death has been erroneously interpreted as a proof of the non-existence of childhood in Puritan New England. "In Love He Predestinated Us..." Predestination. Sain Paul, Saint Augustin and Vladimír Boublík

The doctrine of predestination in Western theology had for centuries been burdened by the dualistic conception of Saint Augustine. The bishop of Hippo held that it is God?s intention to reveal His mercy on a small number of those predestined to salvation and His justice on a far larger mass of rightly damned sinners. He came to be convinced that salvation is an utterly undeserved gift and consequently he negated the importance of human freedom. His interpretation would rather give rise to anxiety than the hope Scripture speaks about. Vladimír Boublík dared to oppose Augustine?s authority and presented an entirely different solution based on modern exegesis of the Pauline epistles. He defined predestination as an irreversible divine decision the content of which is the participation of all humanity on divine life in Christ. The present paper shows that Boublík?s theology stems from not just academic, but above all existential search for the answer to the question of human destiny marked with sin, suffering and death. It is already apparent on the pages of the spiritual diary the author kept during his studies. All his writing shows the intention to address his contemporaries and lead them to Christ who stands in the centre of the author?s thinking. This paper attempts to follow up on the work of the Czech exile theologian. It presents his conception of predestination and further develops it in some respects. Besides other things, it throws light on the previously unclarified problem of Christ?s primacy in predestination. Vladimír Boublík?s thesis is confronted with objections that have been raised against it and its content is compared with the content of today?s contribution to the topic.

The meaning of life in the July´s questions

The thesis deals with search for the meaning of human life in present time from the philosophical and theological point of view of Egon Bondy. Bondy perceives a human being as a biological and intellectual unity in which the peak of evolution has been reached. However, as to Bondy, this ?peak? has to be overcome, humans have to transcend and renew their humanity, otherwise they would get stuck at the place momentary reached where they are not happy and stand without any meaning. Bondy brings the concept of a ?non-substance model? of ontological reality, in which the attempts to find a common path for both theology and philosophy. This way we can also follow Egon Bondy?s development from atheism to the acceptance of ?living God?. Bondy reaches the opinion that human faith in God and the reception of grace offer person?s life the feeling of fulfilment which contemporary humanity has been so much lacking. Bondy hints at his spiritual experience of ?splendour inside?, where he could feel that the meaning of life cannot be reached by one?s own activity or just ?ordered?. The meaning of life can only be humbly expected.

Religious conversion and subsequent frustration of faith in view of Holy Scripture, theology and psychology.

This thesis is concerned with the phenomenon of adult conversion to Christianity. It defines the concept of conversion and deals with it in the perspektive of several disciplines.Its first part is devoted to several examples of conversion describet in the Scripture.The examples given in the Old and New Testament seem to become patterns of genuine and lasting conversion.The second part of the thesis follows the biblical examples of convincement in the history of the Church.The third part is devoted to conversion in the view of the current (first of all moral)theology, and the fourth part offers a view from the perspektive of psychology. The conversion is characterised as a lifelong process of intensive changes in the meaning of repentance,an act of will and personal choice inextricably linked with God´s grace.The work shows the difficulties and conflicts which can hit the convers during the proces;it reveals their causes and stresses the necessity of a truly mature faith. The essential part of the work contents twelve case reports-specific stories of converts,which effectively illustrate the issues outlined.
