The effect of lecture/seminar attendance on exam results
Plachá, Romana ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Želinský, Tomáš (referee)
The core of this thesis is to investigate how attendance at the lectures and seminars affects the exam results. Despite the fact that schools are the primary source of education, attendance at the universities is not usually compulsory. As a university student, I was interested if and how attendance influences academic performance at the university where I study. Thus I decided to conduct a survey and chose an undergraduate course Econometrics II at the Charles University in Prague. The sample is 42 students. Because of the problem of omitted variable bias, it was necessary to control for the unobservable factors such as ability, motivation, and effort. Therefore there are used two methods of estimation. Firstly, the method of ordinary least squares with proxy variables and secondly the method of two-stage least squares with an instrumental variable. The results indicate that in the studied sample there is a positive and sig- nificant effect of attendance at the lectures on the exam results, however, the effect of attendance at the seminars is not statistically different from zero. Keywords attendance, academic performance, ordinary least squares (OLS), two-stage least squares (2SLS), rational decision making Author's e-mail romanaplacha@gmail.com Supervisor's e-mail barbara.pertold-gebicka@fsv.cuni.cz

I hope it's very important to remind this part of history - dificult situation of teachers and students during the Nazi era to current students. This sadly topic could raise future teachers to love the profession and could raise the prestige of teachers in our country. My wish would be after reading this work to increase patriotism, love and respect fot the history of our school. I described individual school protectorate years with the introductional into the Protectorate Education. At the beginning of each school year I described the basic historical milestones. I wanted to capture the humiliation of our education system during the Protectorate compared to the high level of pre - war years, dishonor Czech teachers, pupils, students and progressive germanizacion. I took advantage memories of witnesses for readability and catchiness readers. I tried to create text with elements of experiential learning. I believe that experiential...

After successful testing of said PCB, the terminal has been completed and it was possible to focus on a software solution. Latter part of the thesis is dedicated to a specifics of the Allwinner A20 platform and its support by a GNU/Linux operating system. In following chapter author describes use of a Buildroot software for creating a Linux based binary image for an aforementioned minicomputer. Since an operating system and a peripheral support were successfully tested author could focus on a design and implementation of an attendance software that is described in the final chapter.

The thesis deals with the problems of attendance and access systems and their importance in the company. The main aim is to clarify the present topic both to IT consultants and the public in an attempt to show the role of its own system, its implementation and operation in corporate practice. The work is divided into two main parts. The first part describes the historical development of monitoring attendance both from the point of view of the paper version and its successive software solution, as well as in respect of the hardware. Next, we give the legislative requirements and restrictions for monitoring and recording of the attendance of employees, the main source being the Labour Code itself and the Office for Personal Data Protection. After that, updated current attendance and access systems are introduced. The second part contains the actual procedure of selection and deployment of a particular attendance system, its configuration and operation. The process is described in detail in the thesis supplement. Emphasis is placed above all on clarity and easy understanding of the present topic, its impacts and benefit of its use. The main contribution of this work is the unification of views on the present subject matter, a comprehensive view of the system and its important role as an independent system co-operating with other software and hardware resources in the company.
