Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment Program from the Point of View of Primary School Teachers

FEUERSTEIN'S INSTRUMENTAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS The presented doctoral work covers the programme of cognitive stimulation created by Reuven Feuerstein. It aims to describe the effects that the teachers are triggered with by this programme. The work presents Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) in context of all the Feuerstein's work. It explains its theoretical grounds in detail, and connects them with broader questions from educational psychology field, that are related to the teaching of thinking skills. There is compared the Feuerstein's theory of Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) with L. S. Vygotsky's theory of mediation in the work. It also refers to the work of J. Piaget in many passages. The research part of the work is based on interviews and two small semantic- differential scales. The research group contained 9 experimental and 6 control teachers from primary schools. The main aim of the carried research was to map what form gain the influences that FIE has on the teachers. We also worked on the teachers' opinions regarding the implementation of this programme at mainstream schools. Dynamic Loewenstein occupational therapy cognitive assessment in individuals after obtaining brain injury in working age

The thesis Dynamic Loewenstein occupational therapy cognitive assessment in individuals after obtaining brain injury in working age deals with a comparison of the level of the brain injured and non-brain injured people's cognitive functions with the aid of the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment battery (DLOTCA). The theoretical part is focused on an issue of the acquired brain injury, a description of cognitive areas and as well their pathology due to this injury. The aim of the practical part is to test the cognitive functions with the aid of the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment. The survey's main object is the applicability of the working version of the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment battery (DLOTCA), its translated version. The testing was carried out on seventy probands devided into three groups. Healthy people (n=50), cerebrovascular accident patients (n=10) and traumatic brain injury patients (n=10). Test results confirm all the stated hypothesis because it did not meet the prerequisites of the total evaluation. The Bachelor thesis deals with development of early school-aged children. Above all, I mainly focused on development. Therefore, the result of this thesis is the three-dimensional object including table games, which should help the individual to make a progress in psychological development. The thesis has a theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part is focused on logical-mathematical and spatial intelligence. Hence, are placed in the exterior, where they are available to all children.
The Support of Cognitive Skills Development of the Clients of the Social Services in the metropolis

This final thesis is focused on analysing the support of cognitive development of the clients of a social services centre through its activities which are aimed at a concrete target group senior citizens. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether the senior citizens' cognitive skills are developed through these activities or whether these activities have other meanings for the clients. Another aim is to find out whether the criteria concerning development of cognitive skills, the way they were defined by Reuven Feuerstein, are fulfilled. Another part of the thesis is also a description of the activities held by the social services centre so that a reader could understand the results better.
Cognitive development of children from first to fifth grafe of primary school

Bachelor thesis is focused on development of schoolchildren´s cognitive functions. Thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part is describing individual cognitive development. Various theories of cognitive development are described here along with detailed charcteristic of schoolchildren period. After that is introduced Reuven Feuerstein theory and his program of instrumental enrichment, possibility of cognitive modifiability and experience by mediated learning. Final chapter in theoretical part describes methods of practical application in cognitive function development. At the end of this chapter are introduced another posibilities of cognitive function development Aim of practical part is to diagnose cognitive function development of information selection by children in second grade of primary school. Second aim is focused on posibilities of pedagogue development during mediated learning method. These goals were achieved by qualitative research using participant observation.
Artistic expression via methods of training memory and cognitive abilities in senior citizens.

The thesis deals with the use of artistic expression in methods to train the cognitive functions of the elderly. The theoretical part includes a summary of findings about aging and old age and explains the importance of stimulating the elderly in our republic. It also deals with characteristic features of artistic expression and artheterapy for elderly. In the practical part methods are described which exploit artistic expression in enhancing cognitive functions not only in elderly people with dementia within the framework of the stimulation programme in old people's homes but also, by means of voluntary memory training courses. The author tries to ascertain the extent how art therapy methods can be applied in these programmes in such a way that the two approaches could complement, supplement and enrich each other.
Application of ICT for Cognitive Functions Support

Performance of cognitive abilities, like attention, memory, language and speech, planning, decision making or logical thinking, is the basic assumption for quality of life. There are many ways how to keep and improve them. This thesis deals with connection of information technologies and cognitive sciences with focus on memory support. At the beginning there is introduced an aim of thesis in detail, in the next chapter there are described memory systems and other cognitive functions. Third chapter is focused on short introduction of brain structures, neurotransmitters affecting memory activities and imaging methods that serve for observing memory activities. In the forth chapter there are described the most common memory deficits. In the fifth part there is description of several computer programs currently used for cognitive functions support. Within the scope of practical part there was tested one software from fifth chapter with focus on memory abilities of researched sample. The results of conducted experiment are described in detail at the very end of this thesis.
EFEKT MEMORY REHABILITATION OF SENIORS IN CONSIDERATION OF QUALITY OF LIFE

A cognitive rehabilitation is an intervention seeking to restore or compensate cognitive deficiencies with an aim to improve the everyday efficiency of the client. A part of the cognitive rehabilitation is a cognitive training that means a repeated drill and an effort to improve cognitive activities. The memory training is a combination of the cognitive training and relaxing psychomotor exercising. It also fulfills a social function because mutual get-togetherness and interactions happen in the course of it. The main tendency is to learn techniques and strategies leading seniors to an improvement of their memorizing, so that they could use them in their everyday life. The purpose of this work is to ascertain an influence of the cognitive rehabilitation on clients living in MÁJ Rest Home in České Budějovice. The chosen elaboration method of my bachelor work is an experiment. A level of cognitive abilities of the seniors was discovered by a pre-test at the beginning of the experiment. There were monitored results of various tests {--} MMSE, short-term memory, quality of life and everyday cognitive difficulties test. The level of the cognitive abilities was verified by a post-test at the end of the experimental action and test results were compared with the checking group. The research confirmed that the cognitive rehabilitation contributes to an increasing of the quality of life, an improvement of the short-term memory and to an easement of everyday cognitive difficulties.
The role of nurse in recognition of the early stages of dementia

The aim of this work was to find out whether the nurses working in the rooms of G.P. for adults can recognize signals of early stages of clients´ dementia, whether the nurses purposefully aim their effort to recognise the signals and whether the elderly people themselves are interested in such interventions. The group to be investigated was made up of a group of nurses from the G.P. rooms in the Tabor District and a group of elderly people at the age of 65 and over from the Tabor District as well. The investigation was made through quantitative research, questions; structured questions were used for the collection of data. The reason to do this work was to draw the attention to the nurses having broad possibilities to recognize the early stages of this disorder and to influence the fate of a lot of patients. The findings did not confirm the hypothesis that the nurses working in the G.P. rooms do not have possibilities to fully use their competence or to use their new knowledge of nursing to recognize symptoms of dementia of the elderly people and to broaden awareness of healthy aging. The research confirmed the second hypothesis that the nurses in the G.P. rooms do not purposefully aim their efforts to identify the early stages of dementia. The third hypothesis was confirmed; the elderly people showed their interest in the nurse{\crq}s intervention to identify the symptoms of dementia, thus confirming their reliance in nurses{\crq} expertise. All three objectives were fulfilled. At the close of the study it was pointed out that the existing approach of the nurses in the G.P. rooms to this disorder should change, the nurses should partake in using standardised less time consuming methods to test the elderly people with a higher risk of dementia, and to broaden awareness of healthy aging and all possible ways to prevent the syndrome of dementia.
