The impact of vaccinations on the development of Covid-19 pandemic
Kulhánek, Vít ; Kalabiška, Roman (advisor) ; Bauer, Michal (referee)
This thesis aims to examine the e ect of vaccination on the development of the Covid-19 pandemic. The three key variables are used as dependent vari- ables: the number of new cases, new deaths, and hospitalization. The dataset containing numerous countries and capturing periods from 2020 to 2022 was obtained, therefore a panel data estimator was employed. Moreover, the Czech Republic and Israel were selected for deeper investigation, and their data were filtered from the dataset. The data structure changed from panel data to time series, so OLS regression was selected as an appropriate method. In all mod- els, vaccination variables and also several others were included in lags because a time gap is necessary to increase individuals' immunity in the case of the vaccine. Last but not least, the excess deaths analysis is created and focuses on investigating excess deaths caused primarily or secondarily by the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, it predicts the amount of money not paid in the form of pensions till 2030 for the elderly who are included in the excess deaths. Fi- nally, it compares this amount of money with the expenditures associated with vaccine purchases. The impact of the COVID-19 crisis on meeting the objectives of the EU's Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 in the Czech Republic and Austria
Jančíková, Natálie ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
This Master's Thesis investigates the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 in Austria and Czechia, with a focus on the strategy's goals of freedom from violence and stereotypes, thriving in a gender-equal economy, and equal leadership throughout society. The research adopts Sylvia Walby's theory of gender regimes to provide context, which highlights the role of the state in shaping gender equality outcomes. Austria and Czechia are identified as social democratic and neoliberal gender regimes, respectively. This mixed-methods study employs thematic analysis and comparative case study and combines qualitative data gathered through ethnographic methods and quantitative data from open statistics. The thesis finds that Czechia operates as a neoliberal gender regime, with a limited role of the state in supporting women at risk of gender-based violence. In contrast, Austria's social democratic gender regime has provided robust support during the pandemic, with a centralized system of shelters and a state-wide 24/7 women's helpline. The study contributes to the development of gender regime theory and offers a nuanced understanding of the pandemic's impact on gender equality in different gender regimes. The findings have relevance for ongoing academic debate on the...

Title: Perception of the sport product in the form of AC Sparta Prague home football match. Narrative battle: A critical discourse analysis of China and the US's news coverage on COVID-19 origin-tracing
Wang, Qiulin ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Vocásek, Tibor (referee)
The origin of Covid-19 has been a subject of intense public discussion since early 2020, with different countries such as China and the US engaging in propaganda over which laboratory was responsible for the virus's leak. This narrative battle has not only been fought on the basis of scientific evidence but has also become highly politicized, with mainstream media outlets such as newspapers taking sides. This qualitative research employs a critical discourse approach, using Van Dijk's ideological square, to compare newspaper discourses on Covid-19 origin in China (Global Times) and the US (The Wall Street Journal) and identify what images of ingroup and outgroup have the media created through news reporting respectively. The study also analyzes the discursive strategies used by the newspapers to reinforce their narrative. The findings reveal that both newspapers show a dichotomy of "us versus them." In Global Times, The United States is depicted as incompetent, dishonest, politically driven, and unresponsive to concerns regarding its bio labs. Reciprocally, China is portrayed as culpable for Covid-19, uncooperative, and with concerns about its political system and risky lab practices in The Wall Street Journal. The study also indicates that linguistic tactics such as evidentiality, lexicalization,...
Simulation of Spread of Infectious Diseases in Human Population
Křištof, Jiří ; Šimek, Václav (referee) ; Strnadel, Josef (advisor)
The aim of this work is to develop an epidemiological model to simulate the spread of the infectious disease covid-19. The developed SVLIHDRS model builds on compartmental models and is implemented as a Markov chain with continuous time. For the implementation, the UPPAAL tool is used. By comparing the simulation outputs with the observed data, the Spearman coefficients are 0.8940 for infectious individuals and 0.9987 for deceased individuals, the mean bias errors are 12510.7285 and 316.2697, respectively. The results of this thesis are useful for making long-term predictions of the epidemic evolution of covid-19 infection.

Analysis of herd behavior across cryptocurrencies
Krouská, Kateřina ; Kukačka, Jiří (advisor) ; Fanta, Nicolas (referee)
This thesis studies herding behavior in the cryptocurrency market between 2017 and 2022. Results from the static model reveal significant imitative behavior in the up market and during the bull year 2017. In addition, this thesis ranks among the first papers that study the effect of the early stage of the war in Ukraine on the market-wide herding behavior. Furthermore, due to Bitcoin's dominant position among other coins, closer attention is devoted to studying its influence on the herding behavior in the market. However, herding seems to be present only during extreme Bitcoin movements. In response to these results, five dominant coins (Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Litecoin and Dogecoin) are excluded from the sample and their influence on the rest of the market is studied. The evidence suggests strong herding behavior of the rest of the market around these five giants. Therefore, the return of smaller coins seems to be influenced by the performance of larger coins, rather by solely that of Bitcoin. This period was exceptional in that an extraordinary event occurred in the Czech Republic, namely the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted social life and closed sports clubs. Methods: Microsoft Excel was used to process the data file provided by the Czech Athletic Association. The statistical software IBM SPSS Statistics was used for statistical operations, tests and graphs. In addition, tests of normality, homogeneity of variances and comparisons of results of correlation analyses, analyses of variance and partial post-hoc tests were used. Results: Based on the analysis of the dataset of athlete testing results in the Sports Centres it was found that, between 2019 and 2022, there was a significant deterioration in general movement performance in all categories studied, particularly in the male and female student categories aged 14 to 15 years.
