The Moravian Gallery's Islamic art collection as it relates to Central European oriental museology
Dvořáková, Sabina ; Gombár, Eduard (advisor) ; Veselý, Rudolf (referee) ; Pospíšilová, Dagmar (referee)
The cultural , political and economic relations of Europe and the Orient remain nowadays a top research priority. The fruit ful history of these relations is a key to understanding this, considering that many prejudices and preconceptions originate in historical experience - especially for Central Europe as it relates to its experience wi th the Ottoman empi re. The Oriental collect ions in the Czech Republic still lack a proper analysis, except for a few examples such as the National Museum or the National Gallery in Prague. These collections open a gate to the Islamic world and therefore deserve a systematized approach and a broader acceptance both in the general public and in the academic community.

"The Grünes Gewölbe -between Art Repository and Baroque Museum. The Collection's History up to 1733."
Hlušičková, Pavla ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Otavský, Karel (referee)
121 Anglická anotace The Green Vault is among Europe's most exquisite and most famous treasure chambers. It was established as a baroque museum by the Saxon elector and Polish king August the Strong (1670-1733) between 1723 and 1730. During that period, the Wettin dynasty's sumptuous collection of Renaissance and Baroque treasures was placed on view for the first time in eight presentation rooms of the Royal Palace. The inventories of 1733 have survived and form the basis for the present reinstallation of the treasure chamber. In those documents, this group of rooms is referred to as the "Secret Repository of the Green Vault of Dresden. The malachite-green hue of various architectural elements in the rooms of the secret repository probably led to their colloquial designation as the "Green Vault" from as early as 1572. Between 1723 and 1730 August the Strong realized his vision of a Baroque synthesis of the arts as an expression of wealth and absolutist power. In harmony with the festive architecture, 3,000 artworks were presented standing freely against a background of richly embellished and mirrored display walls and on ornamental tables. In this incomparable Baroque setting, the individual artwork receded behind the overflowing abundance of the whole. The rooms themselves have their origins in palace...

Bengali scroll painting
Šimečková, Klára ; Knížková, Hana (advisor) ; Preinhaelterová, Hana (referee) ; Zbavitel, Dušan (referee)
The dissertation thesis analyzes the scroll paintings of the Bengali patua community. The definition of traditional and new forms of this art is based on the results of an extensive field research in West Bengal, documentation of museums and private collections, and relevant studies published on the subject. Bengali scroll paintings represent an indigenous tradition in the whole of the Indian narrative paintings. Narrative elements have been present in the Indian religious art since ancient times. The thesis first focuses on the history of the scroll painting in India, which is, however, hard to reconstruct due to the lack of material as well as text sources. Next the thesis concentrates on the Bengali region, where the scroll paintings have been collected and examined only since the twenties and the thirties of the 20th century. At this time, the authentic patua art of the region was already significantly impaired, because the original social and economic ties were breaking down, and the scroll painters were loosing the audience that had supported them. The work exemplifies that even though the patua art was, in its original meaning, inseparably combining visual, verbal and dramatic components (a painting, an accompanying song and a performance); during the second half of the twentieth century the painting...

The Deaccessioning of Public Museum Collections in the Czech Republic
Katakalidis, Thomas ; Tyslová, Irena (advisor) ; Prokůpek, Marek (referee)
This master thesis is concerned with the topic of deaccessioning from public art museums in the Czech Republic. This practice is almost never carried out due to high legal restrictions and very demanding administration. Nevertheless, deaccessioning is becoming common practice in other European countries such as United Kingdom or the Netherlands. The goal of the thesis is to suggest main topics in the hypothetical regulation of deaccessioning in the Czech Republic considering the current theoretical framework, already conducted research and newly conducted research within this thesis. The latter is open coding analysis of guidelines on collection deaccessioning made by United Kingdom Museum Association. The main conclusions are that a few topics should be subject to regulation. Firstly, the reason to dispose (either economic or other), secondly, the acceptable use of the income from deaccessioning, thirdly, decision making process and supervision. At last, selection of collection or items to be disposed and question of new collection owner should be solved.

Trojanová, Kateřina ; Havlásek Tatarová, Lucie (referee) ; Roeselová, Věra (advisor)
My dissertation is about material transformation in space creation at the turn of 19th century, where the beginning of modern statuary is dated. Follows up connecting of unconventional and new materials to modern art production. It's engaged in textile and fabric very closely, from its emancipating from the utility value - concretely the tapestry production in Czechoslovakia, it's transformation to Soft Art of the 60th. The main theme of my practical work is fabric and is realized in textile space object - children toy. It seems paradox that I choose for the practical part of my dissertation called unconventional work with fabric - the most traditional object. But my intention was to create a fabric toy on the border of utility value and art object. Because of that my last chapter in dissertation work is dedicated to theoretic principles of children evolution and childrens' play. Among others I put the question "what's the toy" and I tried to find the answer through the recapitulation of the exhibition "Salon hraček 2007" (Toy exhibition 2007).
