Mapping the Individual Musical Experience in Post-Apartheid South Africa: A Bio-Ethnography of Township Dweller Lesiba Samuel Kadiaka
Zdrálek, Vít ; Matoušek, Vlastislav (advisor) ; Lucia, Christine Elizabeth (referee) ; Horáková, Hana (referee)
The dissertation is a biographical ethnography of an individual, ordinary musician and Mamelodi township dweller, Lesiba Samuel Kadiaka (*1962) in South Africa. It is based largely on fieldwork totalling more than 12 months conducted in five periods over six years between 2006 and 2011. It examines the possibilities of studying an average (rather than 'leading') musician ethnographically and their implications and consequences for wider ethnomusicological and South African music research. It makes a practical contribution to the wider debate about the relationship between individual, social, and cultural structures, and breaks new ground in its focus on the previously little known music and practices of Mr. Kadiaka's church, the Zion Christian Church. The research consisted mainly of ethnographic observations of various kinds of musical activities in which Mr. L. S. Kadiaka was involved in as a solo musician (songwriter and song singer) and as a member of the ZCC, on the one hand, and of deep interviews over the time span of six years, on the other. It consists of a biographical part dealing with his narratives about childhood in rural Ga-Mphahlele and his later life in Mamelodi township. Iconographic historical sources of a private nature are use too. The second part describes in three large...
JUDr. PhDr. Karel Vaš
Pižlová, Martina ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Maslowski, Nicolas (referee)
The aim of this thesis has been an analysis of the trial of General Heliodor Píka, who was convicted for abusing his service power and military treason and executed in 1949. Since he was a distinct personality in Czechoslovak history and his trial was one of the first post- war show trials, it will be necessary to characterize the period of 1950's in the former Czechoslovakia. Here we focus primarily on the political situation. Information on the Píka's trial I gained from a direct participant, Mr. Karel Vaš, who, according to an extant material, featured in the position of the investigating prosecutor. Therefore I would also like to present briefly his life story, mainly to put us into the context of his time in post-war Czechoslovakia. At this point it should be emphasized I used the method of oral history with subsequent analysis of archival sources. Therefore the aim of the work is not to evaluate the personality and deeds of Karel Vaš, but to offer a comprehensive view of the above issues embedded in the context of his time. Keywords: World war II, Heliodor Píka, Karel Vaš, Communist Party, The Millitary Counterintelligence OBZ, Soviet Union.

Zlámaný, Jan Jakub ; Čálek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee) ; Kalina, Kamil (referee)
Objectives: Theoretical contribution of the research is to extend knowledge about the impact of psychotherapeutic training on its participants. Community and group psychotherapeutic training is an endemic phenomenon which does not appear out of the Czech Republic and has not been systematically investigated yet. Goal: The main goal of my dissertation is to detect the influence of psychotherapeutic community training on its members. Subjects: The subject of investigation is 168 introspectional texts which participants of psychotherapeutic community wrote immediately after completing the training. The texts were developed from the diaries which the members wrote during the 5 years persistence of training. Research methods: Qualitative analyses of documents based on application of methods, techniques and procedures of "grounded theory". Content analysis and focus groups were used as complementary methods. Conclusions: This study formulates an integrated theory of psychotherapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral methods, psychodynamic psychotherapy and expressive therapeutic techniques concentrated in a system of community and psychotherapy group training. The study describes concrete methods and techniques of leadership work with community and groups which combine social work with large...

Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradci Králové Department of: Pharmaceutical Technology Candidate PharmDr. Sylva Klovrzová Supervisor doc. PharmDr. Zdeňka Šklubalová, Ph.D. Title of Doctoral Thesis: Formulation of extemporaneous paediatric liquid preparations in the hospital pharmacy In the paediatric population, oral solutions and/or suspensions represent a suitable alternative to preparation of hard capsules in the pharmacy. This thesis aims at formulation of stable liquid oral preparations with cardiologic drugs, propranol- hydrochloride, sotalol-hydrochloride and furosemide, for the children aged from newborn to approximately 6 year. At the formulation of the preparation compositions, the simple routine preparation in a pharmacy was the main target as well as the use of excipients safe for paediatric population in the minimal necessary amount. Using a high performance liquid chromatography, chemical stability of the active ingredient and, simultaneously, the preservative was determined in all formulated preparations stored at two different temperatures at time points over minimum 180 days. In order to achieve this, the specific analytical methods were developed and validated at the department of Analytical chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové. However, the...
Czechoslovak musical elite in the late eighties and early nineties of the 20th century
Matějíček, František ; Havel, Jan (advisor) ; Houda, Přemysl (referee)
At the turn of the eighties' and nineties' of the 20th century, correspondingly to the whole social scale, significant changes happened on the domestic music scene. The musical and the creative elite were confronted with the Anglo-American production, and were forced, in a number of cases, to come up with the alternative ways of expressing themselves under the new circumstances. The goal of this thesis is to compare and contrast the situation on the domestic scene during the period right before the November 1989 and the period to follow; based on the various testimonies of popular Czechoslovakian musicians. The research aims to collect the information regarding contemporary popularity of the Czechoslovakian modern music and authors from the eighties'. I'm trying to verify if the critique perspective of one part of the public experts on the allegiance of the musical elite and the ideology of the pre-November regime is justified or not. At the same time, the thesis follows the fortune of the music stars in relation to the changing social order and, in addition to it, establish the basis for the study of the further research in the field.
The Long-term Natural Corrosion of Uranium Coloured Glasses

Diagnostics of verbal abilities of children from a linguistic point of view
Benešová, Andrea ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Šebesta, Karel (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of verbal subtests of selected Intelligence tests (Analytical Test of Intelligence, Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children, Vana Intelligence Test and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). The analysis focuses on the types of verbal abilities and communication skills examined by those tests, and on types of exercises used in the psycho-diagnostics practice. The thesis concentrates on the tests used for diagnostics of verbal abilities in Czech children who are in the age group of up to 12 years. The theoretical part includes basic terms of the theory of Intelligence and Intellect abilities and basic knowledge of child development. The so called pre-school evolution is the most important period because of the child language acquisition and because of the development of communication abilities and skills at the lexical-semantic, morphological-syntactic, phonetic-phonologic and pragmatic levels. The thesis concentrates on the so called younger age evolution as this period is primarily connected with the school maturity / readiness. Keywords verbal abilities, diagnostic tests, vocabulary, child talk, communication skills

How the Yellowhammer became a Kiwi: stories hatched at the field margins of bioacoustics and invasion ecology
Pipek, Pavel ; Pyšek, Petr (advisor) ; Slabbekoorn, Hans (referee) ; Sol Rueda, Daniel (referee)
The presented thesis exploits the introduction of the yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) to New Zealand to study the cultural evolution of birdsong dialects in exotic populations after 140 years of complete isolation from the original source populations in Great Britain. The data are interpreted with detailed knowledge of yellowhammer past in New Zealand and of the global (Europe) and regional (Czech Republic) distribution of yellowhammer dialects. Yellowhammer song is simple and males have very limited repertoire. Since the 19th cen- tury it is known that despite its simplicity the song exhibits fascinating geographical variation; the males share the terminal notes to create mosaic-like distribution of dialects. Although this phenomenon has been known for decades and thoroughly studied, many questions remain. One of them is a suspected border between "western" and "eastern" groups of dialects. By combining information about the dialect distributions obtained from works of previous researchers with recordings from online repositories and archives we demonstrate that these groups do not create macrogeographical patterns (Chapter 6). The citizen-science project "Dialects of the Czech Yellowhammers" involved Czech cit- izens in mapping the distribution of yellowhammer dialects in the Czech territory....
