Students view of their former studies on Prague's University of Economics during the period of so-called normalization in Czechoslovakia
Doležal, Petr ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Houda, Přemysl (referee)
In this diploma thesis I have analyzed the view of University of Prague's former students towards their studies in the so called normalization era in Czechoslovakia. The aim of this study was to discover how much different were the former studies compared to the current ones. The accent was pointed primarily on economic sciences. Apart from the theoretical economical education was also the ideological way of education influence analyzed. The result of such analysis should then answer the question whether the education during the normalization period was entirely ideologically manipulated and totally uncorresponding with the today's education of economics, as many laics believe, or not. I have also uncovered the fact whether the former indoctrinated education can be practically applied by former students in their current laissez fair oriented employment. Although this study confirms, based on former students and educators narratives, relatively significant occurrence of communism ideology in university's education as a whole, the professionalism of purely economic oriented sciences at VŠE though, cannot be disclaimed. Ideologically affected subjects were therefore necessary, but at the same time they were only a partial complement of the highly valuable scientific economical education at University...

Heřmanský, Michal ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Pavlíčková, Jarmila (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the design of self-service business intelligence reporting in higher education. The main goal of this thesis is to create set of analytical dashboards in Tableau. First chapter is an introduction into the business intelligence area and its core principles and types of users involved. Next, main disadvantages of traditional enterprise level BI tools are explained from business user´s point of view. Self-service BI is introduced as a response to these issues. The main advantages and requirements for successful implementation into enterprise environment are described. At the same time, there are reasons why it is not appropriate to use SS BI as the primary enterprise-wide reporting. Subsequently, the Tableau platform is introduced as a representative of selfservice BI tools. The Tableau Desktop tool is characterized as a reporting tool. It explains how to connect to data sources and how to work with extracts of data. Further, the method of working with the tool is explained and given examples of Tableau analytical functions. The Tableau Server´s architecture is described along with its security features. The administration and assignment of user roles are presented. The last part shows the process of publishing a dashboard from Tableau Designer to the server. The following section deals with the analysis of the higher education. The organizational structure is described and the main and support processes identified. Subsequently, metrics and dimensions are designed to track these processes. The final part proposes sample reports in Tableau for the area of subject evaluation, student study visits abroad, project activities and monitoring of accepted applications for study.

Kozár, Filip ; Klement, Josef (advisor) ; Barák, Vladimír (referee)
Presented bachelor thesis focuses on tertiary education in the Czech republic. The main aim of this thesis is to estimate rates of return from public expenditures on tertiary education in the 1996-2001 period. The practical part deals with the evolution of human capital theory and two alternative theories - signalling theory and theory of screening. The next part goes in the direction of theory of human capital investments and their measurment methods. The analytic part starts with analysis of the tertiary education sector in Czech republic, including its historical development and international comparison. The second chapter is based on model definition. The model is further used to estimate net present values, internal rates of return and payback periods of public investments into tertiary education. The analytic part ends with a brief discussion and the result comparison with other authors. In a simplified way it is worthwhile for the state to finance tertiary eduction, the only exception being female pedagogical sector graduates.
Success, dropout and problem delimination in the Czech higher education policy
Stiburek, Šimon ; Mouralová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Kohoutek, Jan (referee)
This thesis analyses student success and dropout (attrition, wastage, non-completion …) and their reflection in the Czech higher education policy. Strategic documents of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports declared student dropout to be a problem already in 2000 and 2005. However, only limited and vague measures were proposed, and even those have not been fully implemented while the dropout rates have continued to increase every year. The thesis applies the perspective of "problem delimitation" in the public policy process, discovering that many actors determining the policy formulation do not share the belief that dropout is a problem and that it should be dealt with by public policy means. It seems that no actor has been so far able to present the issue as a well-structured, and therefore solvable, problem. Besides, a lack of consensus on relevant underlying values and goals, a deficiency of suitable means aligned with other essential values - in particular the effort to increase the quality in higher education - is observed. When confronting the stakeholders' expectations of mechanisms and causes behind dropout with the academic theories, recent research as well as students' stories, it appears that the insight of policy makers into the topic is often incomplete and unfitting and that...

Marketing of Education
Ehrlichová, Zuzana ; Sieber, Martina (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with marketing management of educational institutions. In the theoretical part, its relevance in Czech conditions is reasoned, compares its specifics with the marketing management of manufacturing enterprises and deals with unclear proposals for its conceptualization by proposing a scheme of a possible procedure. In the practical part, this procedure is applied and brings recommendations for changes in the Sociological-economic studies study programme and warnings for similarly concepted programmes. Although the study programme has the needed background in the dimensions of personal, international relations and a possibilities of meeting the image of Nicher for a specific group of above-average students of social sciences and economics, even though it has strict entrance requirements it fails to recruit suitable students of a small amount of applicants because it currently does not fully utilise a potential of the product and possibilities of communication.
