Characteristics of Different Teaching Styles on the Example of Two Secondary Mathematics Teachers

The goal of this thesis is to describe teaching styles of two secondary mathematics teachers with very different approaches. One of them represents traditional frontal instruction and one prefers students to be more actively involved in the learning process. Their styles are compared based on their teaching a concrete mathematical topic, namely plane analytic geometry of lines. Examined teaching styles (frontal instruction and so-called realistic education) and selected research with a similar focus are described in the theoretical part of the thesis. The research consisted of observations in lessons of both teachers and a final test for their students. The acquired data has been analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods. The teacher representing traditional frontal instruction emphasizes practising and explaining the new topic. Problems are solved by herself or one chosen student on the blackboard. Questions, which she is asking, require mainly short answers and are focused on reproduction of the previously learnt knowledge. During the lessons of the teacher who is the creator and also an exponent of the so-called realistic education, students are solving problems independently. Teacher's Strategies Solving the Lack of Discipline of Pupils during Teaching at a Junior School

The diploma thesis dealt with the topic of pupils' lack of discipline at a junior school. The theoretical part contains the basic terms' characteristics, information on teachers' strategies to solve the lack of discipline, and it summarises findings from available literature dealing with pedagogy. In the practical part, opinions, attitudes and experience of teachers and thein pupils concerning the lack of disciple in classes are surveyed using the method of a survey questionnaire. Some answers of teachers and pupils were compared. As a supplementary survey, an interview with junior school teachers was conducted. Some strategies used by teachers to prevent and solve the lack of discipline in their classes were compared with those used by me in my own class. It was found out that majority of teachers' and pupils' answers were similar. Teachers use strategies that not only represent solutions to pupils' lack of discipline but they also prevent indiscipline.
Analysis of a beginning teacher and his common problems in an educational process

Thesis "Beginning teacher - analysis of his personality, work and the most common problems in his work" deals with the personality of a beginning teacher, mentions the most common problems in his work and tries to find ideas for improving the situation. As the same times in analyses the selected components of his personality, which usually participates the lack of attention, especially in preparing future teachers, and which usually not mentioned in proper context. It focuses primary on the professional competence of teachers in relation to the student's core competencies as well as in other contexts. It also discusses the role of novice teachers in the context of the transformation of the Czech education system and also in the context of the Lisbon process. Analyses of key documents are included too. Great attention is paid to think about the different problematic areas concerning the work of novices teachers. In this context, the author focuses on the matter of authority and educational styles. It is based not only on the special literature but also on the sound, which took the form of numerous interview, surveys, questionnaires and observation. Teaching styles of lower-secondary and higher-secondary school teachers of the English language

This thesis deals primarily with teaching styles - a topic that has not been greatly discussed in Czech pedagogical literature so far. Based on both Czech and foreign sources, this paper identifies and describes in detail various aspects of teaching styles and presents several approaches to study them. Moreover, it puts the above-mentioned topic in a context of other related concepts, such as teaching method, teachers' beliefs etc. It provides an overview of several teaching styles typologies designed by mostly American authors. The empirical part introduces an original research based on both quantitative and qualitative approach. It presents a detailed study of six selected teachers of the English language and based on their responses identifies certain aspects of different teaching styles. The thesis also reveals some of their views and opinions of their profession.
Developing of pupils' competence to cooperate

The aim of this thesis is to describe and explain the factors which affect formation and development of pupils' competence to cooperate across all grades of lower primary school. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part describes various factors which affect pupils' competence to cooperate - on the side of pupil and teacher. The practical part contains the results of research that explains how teacher builds and develops the pupil's competence to cooperate in each grade of lower primary school, which style of teaching supports development of this competence and also how is this competence affected by pupils' developmental prerequisites. This thesis contributes to creation of comprehensive knowledge about the development and building pupils' competence to cooperate and it is supported by examples from pedagogical practise.
