The objective of this diploma thesis is to describe nowadays almost forgotten events in France during the Second World War, when the historical statues and monuments from the Third Republic in France are irretrievably destroyed because of melting non-ferrous metals used for arms-production in Nazi Germany. The key goal of the thesis is to mention some of the main decisions that led to the destruction of certain works and on the basis of that analysis consider to what extent the occupier contributed to their loss and to what extent their removal was inevitable. Within historical context, the first chapter introduces the period and ideas of the Third Republic until the arrival of the Vichy régime with its new ideals. The second chapter mentions expansion of sculpture of the Third Republic and statuomania. The development of the campaign for collection of non-ferrous metals and its actors are discussed in the third chapter. Critical reflection of Czech theater culture 1945 - 1948: Continuity and discontinuity
Drexler, Otto ; Ježková, Petra (advisor) ; Knapík, Jiří (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the journalistic work of the theatre critic Josef Träger in the period of the so-called Third Republic (1945-1948). It describes the process of forming attitudes of the journalist towards post-war theatre, presents a representation of the dominant discourse and its transformation during the given period. This thesis focuses on the content analysis of theatre papers, conceived as a kind of "case study", it relates to the basic themes and problems of Czech post-war theatre. It is argued that this approach enables the analyst to pose questions concerning the ideological character of theatre criticism. This thesis discusses ideas of avant-garde creators and theorists, in whose public work it identifies the main source of inspiration for the revolutionary transformation of Czech theatre in 1945. It explores the influence of the Communist Party in the given period, targeted interventions in the Czech media and theatre system and manipulative practices leading to the strengthening of its power in the post-war state. The text also deals with the manifestations of the emerging socio-political disposition in theatre journalism, the form of the reception of post-war hegemonic formation by the journalist, and to structure the results of the analysis into a broader political-media...
Local Brand Communication during Third Republic - Case Study of Rudolf Poborsky's Distillery
Rieger, Matyáš ; Klimeš, David (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
Private local brand promotion during "Third republic" period: Rudolf Poborsky's distillery Summary This thesis targets to explore how the uprising communist power impacted corporate communication. Although communists declared allowance of small business existence, they have destroyed it later. Communication investigation reveals hot topics of the era and - in this small local scale - entrepreneurs' approach. The case study of a family distillery delivers the story in a very human way and shows owners' personal journeys rather than deep analysis of the current political situation as such. The thesis aims to show how owner's attitude contributes to the communication with customers and in what situation these small businesses found themselves during Third republic. In this particular case; I aimed to generalize thesis' conclusions by demonstrating other businesses in the same field. I've performed the research using mainly own family's private archive, which contains a comprehensive collection of both company and private communication documents. I've used the books "Proměny české společnosti 1948-1960" by Karel Kaplan to support those historical parts and "Kapitalismus na kolenou" by Jakub Rákosník to explore economic situation of the period. Investigation proved these businessmen managed to embed their...

Through study programs, many students and researchers could visit Great Britain. The work of Czechoslovak exiles and their influence on the British public is also taken into account in this work. The final part examines the travel conditions in post - war Europe. It tries to examine these travel conditions from historical sources and mainly the written and audiovisual memories of the witnesses. The emphasis here is on the description of repatriation from the United Kingdom and on the restoration of civilian transport routes, which have recovered quite quickly after 1945.

Even though some of the facts could be regarded as minor ones, they all equally contribute to the history of the town.
