It expands on the topic of the "chod" dialect from the works of Jindřich Šimon Baar aswell as contemporary authors. The Forms of Autobiography. Přestupný rok - Disiecta membra - Let let
Stejskalová, Anna ; Špirit, Michael (advisor) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee) ; Tuckerová, Veronika (referee)
This doctoral thesis is concerned with autobiographical forms, their general characteristics as well as with three examples of Czech works of art that prove how difficult it is to make that general characteristics and show various kinds of autobiographical narrative. It aims to show the often heterogeneous character of the so- called autobiographical genres, and present some approaches in their study. In the opening chapter, we define the term autobiography or autobiographical form in regard to literary history and theory, and special attention to Czech research in this field. We concentrate on the genre specifics of autobiographical forms, the opposition of "literary" and "authentic" diary, the term "autobiographical pact" coined by Philippe Lejeune and several patterns of autobiographical memory introduced by James Olney. The key aspect of our study is the nature of autobiographical form derived from the subject's style and illocutionary acts, i. e. stylization as defined by John Searle followed by Jean Starobinski or Paul de Man. Out of the wide spectrum of issues connected with autobiography we focus on the description of the subject's narrative structure, mainly on its language, style, frequent motifs, its memory and relationship to other characters in its text. The complexity of the very...

Kopecká, Tereza ; Mareš, Petr (advisor) ; Vaňková, Irena (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to provide linguistic and stylistic analysis of selected works written by Irena Dousková with focus on use of instruments of nonstandard language. A key criterion for the selection of individual texts was the presence of nonstandard language instruments in given prose. The following works were selected: a novel Hrdý Budžes (1998), a novella Někdo s nožem (2000) and a series of small proses O bílých slonech (2008). The thesis introduces Irena Dousková as a present author of both sophisticated and popular literature, summarizes the themes and critical reception of the selected works, which are further subject of linguistic and stylistic analysis. Based on the analysis results the thesis presents conclusions on trends in proses of Irena Dousková, and thus characterizes the individual style of the artist, whose main feature is a stylization of spoken communication.
Properties of fundamental frequency contours in segmental contexts
Hruška, Robin ; Bořil, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šturm, Pavel (referee)
This paper attempts to describe the fundamental frequency (F0) contours in Czech utterances in relation to their segmental context. After inspecting the principles of intonation contour analysis, a simple stylization algorithm is designed and used to detect peak and valley turning points in the contours of syllabic nuclei. A statistical description of the turning points' timing relative to the nucleus boundaries is provided. Stylization by a tonal perception model based algorithm is performed on the original contours and the result is then analysed for dynamic tones and intersyllabic pitch jumps. Also, cumulative steepness is proposed as a parameter to quantify total contour variation. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Emanuel Hauner's conversion and reconversion at the fin de siècle
Semsch, Alžběta ; Vojtěch, Daniel (advisor) ; Merhaut, Luboš (referee)
The goal of the final thesis Emanuel Hauner's conversion and reconversion at the fin de siècle is to introduce and to interpret Emanuel Hauner's major poetic works, which have been so far neglected by the Czech literary history. My goal was to analyze the reasons of refusal of his works by both readers and critics. To make this analysis precise, it was necessary to take a close look at two phenomena appearing in Hauner's work: stylization and epigonism. The second major goal of this thesis was to answer the question of how Hauner's relation to occultism and Catholicism influenced his works. I was looking for other European authors that, similarly to Hauner, converted to Catholicism and in some parts of their lives had affinity for occultism. I have thus put Hauner's work both in the context of work of authors in whose work the conversion to Catholicism played a major role, and in the context of the artistic criteria of his time. Keywords: Catholicism, Czech literature, decadence, Emanuel Hauner, epigonism, fin de siècle, martinism, occultism, Rudolf Steiner, stylization, Sursum, theosophy
