Vice Presidency in the U.S. Executive Branch

The thesis deals with the vice-president's office of the USA, his powers and his position in the American executive. Considering relatively limited constitutional definition of the vice-presidency, also circumstances of the historic evolution of election this function and issues of vice-president's succession to the presidential office are the subjects of my thesis. The vice-president's selection in the United States of America used to be for many reasons a very important and by the public desirously awaited decision of a presidential candidate before presidential elections. This is the reason, why the thesis deals also with the issue of the impact of the vice-president's nomination on a presidential campaign.
Contemporary forms of negative political campaigning in the United States of America: The Case of Donald Trump's presidential campaign of 2016

In the last few decades, political marketing experienced a major shift in professionalization. In the past, the communication and marketing strategy was an advantage for political subjects. Today, however, it is an inseparable part of a political process. The thesis deals with the problematics of negative campaigning. It covers its historical development and contemporary form in the United States of America. Negative campaigning is an integral part of every more significant political struggle for power. Besides the historical and political contexts the author of the thesis pursuing professionalization of campaign strategies, technology development, and its influence on the campaigning and the overall changes that are shifting the political marketing field in past years. The last presidential campaign of the year 2016 resulted in the election of Donald Trump a president. The author was examining the negative statements from Twitter, presidential debates, and campaign rallies. By conducting semiotic and discourse analysis of selected statements of Donald Trump from the year 2016. The author focused mainly on the linguistic and content side of the statements. Afterward, she put it in the contexts with the whole campaign.

Diploma thesis The Rate of Negativity in Miloš Zeman's and Karel Schwarzenberg' Reflection in Media during Presidential Election in 2013 analyses the rate of negativity in the news production of three national newspapers - Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny and Právo - about these presidential candidates. Time range setting is one month before first round of presidential election and one month after first round of presidential election. The presidential election in January of 2013 was completely different from previous presidential elections. People voted in a direct presidential election. It was very important event, in which the media were very interested. Press, television and radio broadcasting were filled with presidential election, candidates, debates and many reflections. Media have taken it a bit contradictory. Apart from the ordinary information that were important for the public knowledge, the media resorted to the kind of media storm. There were a hight rate of negativity in the news against Miloš Zeman. On the contrary, Karel Schwarzenberg was reflected as an ideal president. The public was separated into two groups by media. Political communication and politainment in the presidential election of 2013 in the Czech Republic

The presented Thesis "Political Communication and Politainment in the Presidential Election in the Czech Republic in 2013" analyses political communication in the historically first presidential election campaign in the Czech Republic. I saw the presidential election as an opportunity to research a new platform of political communication that politainment is. The primary aim of the Thesis is to introduce this concept in the context of the current nature of political communication and at the same time to identify variables defining this phenomenon in the Czech environment. Analysis of the elements of politainment is performed on campaigns of the two most successful candidates aspiring for the office of the President of the Czech Republic - Miloš Zeman and Karel Schwarzenberg. I focused primarily on the television appearance of both candidates in TV debates broadcasted by Czech Television, which were the climax of the entire presidential campaign. I was interested in the content of communication of both candidates and the overall character of the debates. The first part is a translation of selected chapters from the book Les élections présidentielles en France. Quarante ans d'histoire politique written in French by Pierre Bréchon and collective. The second part consists of commentary on the translated text and deals with the analysis of the source text and translation problems and their solution.
The Czech presidential election law and its comparison with presidential election amendments of European Union countries

The dissertation investigates a constitutional amendment to the 2012 legislation of the presidential election. The amendment introduced an election of the president through a popular vote, which was a historical milestone for the Czech legal system. However, the new adjustment was adopted in haste and evinces many deficiencies; that was proven in the 2013 presidential election. Therefore, the aim of the dissertation is to describe problematical parts of the new legal adjustment and find some possible solutions. The main topics are as follows: 1) modification of the basic concepts of the election system, 2) candidate nomination process, 3) election campaign funding and 4) ethical aspects of the election campaign. A comparison of legal adjustments of 14 EU countries with the direct presidential election (the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Croatia, Ireland, Cyprus, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) was done, in order to find appropriate solutions. Apart from the results of comparison, the dissertation is based on reports by GRECO, OSCE and the corresponding Czech judicature. Content analysis of chain e-mails related to presidential candidates

This thesis aims to provide analysis of chain emails during the second direct presidential election in the Czech Republic. The main goal of this work is to set out a semiotic analysis in order to provide detailed research of emails related to both candidates Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš. The chain emails usually using a specific linguistic terms and persuasive procedures. Therefore, the attention will be paid mainly to linguistic and persuasive procedures which are identified. In order to examine the phenomenon the theoretical framework will be based on several key words and terms such as: chain emails, disinformation, hoax, semiotics, etc. Aforementioned, this work is aiming to provide a detailed overview of chain mails. In order to address the topic, I will approach the political background within the media context to present solid foundational analysis, which will conduct disinformation topics.
TV debates as an tool of pre-election communication of candidates in the Presidential election 2018

This thesis deals with the presidential debates in the second round of the presidential election in 2018, when Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš met in duels. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I will explain the concepts related to the political communication and introduce the development of political campaigns. Then, I will focus on the development and history of political debates in the world as well as in Czechia. I will also focus on Czech television market and the differences between public and commercial broadcasters. In the practical part, I will perform a quantitative content analysis, which aims to determine whether the candidates used the topics, that the Public Opinion Reseach Center (CVVM) evaluated as the most important for the public. Next, I will perform a pragmalinguistic analysis, which will help to find out whether any of the debates favored any of the candidates. I will also compare the formats of the debates as well as the topics discussed to find out the differences between debate on public and commercial broadcaster. The thesis concludes that there are differences in the concept of debates between public and private television, both in the choice of topics and format, and in the favoring of candidates.
