Family and the Problems of Pathological Gambling
HAMHALTEROVÁ, Jana
The bachelor thesis deals with pathological gambling and how this problem is perceived by the family. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, I deal with pathological gambling in general. Furthermore, I analyze the risk factors associated with the availability and types of gambling. Typical stages for gamblers are stages of wins, losses, and despair and also relapse. The bachelor thesis is focused on family, so in one of the chapters, I deal with impacts on them. One of the impacts is also an impact on partner life and overall impact on gamblers. The last major chapter contains stages of healing. It includes a social work with a pathological gambler and what kind of legislation a social worker follows. In conclusion, there is treatment and prevention. The practical part is divided into methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion. The aim of this thesis was to find out how the partners of pathological gamblers experience their addiction. In connection with this, was created a research question, which is how the family perceives the effects of pathological gambling. A qualitative research strategy and a semi-structured interview with open questions were used to meet the aim. The research set consists of partners of pathological gamblers using deliberate selection. The interviews were evaluated by tuft analysis. The thesis can serve as information material for the public as well as background material for students or workers in social services. From the results, I discovered how the partners of pathological gamblers experience their addiction. The most common impact is the loss of trust in a partner that is associated with feelings of disappointment, helplessness, sadness, guilt, and others. It also impacts the finances, as the partner is indebted by his gambling losses. These impacts lead to psychological problems.

This bachelor thesis deals with the influence of childbirth and puerperium on the sexuality of partners. Therefore, the theoretical part describes childbirth, puerperium and sexuality. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the midwife's and the partner's role during childbirth and puerperium. In total, three goals were established. The aim of the work was to find out whether the delivery and the puerperium period affect the sex life of the partners. The second goal was to determine whether the behavior of midwives affected the experience of childbirth for the mother or partner, and the third goal was to determine whether women have sufficient knowledge about sexuality during the postpartum period, and in the period after puerperium. On the basis of these goals, research questions have also been created. The first research question examined the influence of childbirth and puerperium on the sexuality of both partners. In the second research question we asked how the behavor of the midwife during delivery affects the experience the parent or the partner had during this time. a third research question addressed what knowledge women have regarding sexuality during and after puerperium. The research was conducted with women and men in their home environment during the month of March in 2018. a qualitative method was chosen to carry out the research. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with women from six months to one year after delivery and with men whose partners were six months to one year after childbirth. The partners who participated in the research signed the Request for Co-operation Agreement. The interview consisted of 15 questions for the woman and 15 questions for the man, and according to the needs of the couple, additional questions have been added. On the basis of anonymity, individual women and men were idenified through letters and numbers, for example Ž1; M1. The obtained data have been processed by the pencil-paper method and color coded. Based on data analysis, major categories and subcategories were created. The first category for women is Childbirth, which has 6 subcategories - Preparation for childbirth, Psychic experience, Proposal for the presence of partner at birth, Contribution of the partner's presence at birth, Behavior and communication of the midwife, and The perception of the arrival of a newborn into the world. The second category was puerperium, which has 6 subcategories - General awareness, Awareness of sexuality, Resources, Strengthening relationships, Caring for the newborn, and Changes in partner life. The first category for men was defined by the category Childbirth, which also has 6 subcategories - Preparation for childbirth, Psychic experience, Suggestion for partner's presence at delivery, Behavior and communication of the partner, The behavior and communication of the midwife, and The perception of the arrival of a newborn into the world. The second category is puerperium, which has 6 subcategories - General awareness of partner's puerperium, Sexuality awareness, Sources of information, Strenghtening of relationship, Newborn care, and Changes in partner life. The research revealed that childbirth affected the sexual life of one pair. For the other pairs of the research group, birth had no effect on their sexuality after childbirth. For all couples from the research group, sex was affected by puerperium. The most common cause of change in sex life was the new role of women in the context of maternity, the change of women's and men's daily regime, the women's fatigue and exhaustion. It was also found that the midwife's attitude and presence during birth did not affect the experience of childbirth by women or men. It was also found that women and men were well educated about postpartum period and about sexuality in the postpartum period. Women were mostly informed by midwives and men from their own partner.
