Changes in deep and superficial sensations in depression
Janoušková, Marie ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Satrapová, Lenka (referee)
Title: Changes in deep and superficial sensations in depression Objectives: The theoretical part of this study aims to summarize the issues related to depression and sensory modalities in general. The goal of the practical aspect is to conduct an experiment that evaluates changes in superficial and deep sensations in depression at different stages of the mental illness in five patients. We evaluated sensations of thermal stimuli, tactile stimuli, vibrations and pain. Methods: The practical part describes the sensation analysis for each patient individually. The changes in deep and superficial sensations are compared in states of worse and lighter depression. There is also a suggested possibility for statistical evaluation of the interdependence between the severity of depression and selected modalities of sensation using the Wilcoxon test for two dependent samples. Results: The vibrating sensation in the upper left limb and algid sensation in the upper right extremity proved (on the chosen level of significance) the null hypothesis which stated that changes in sensation depend on changes in the state of depression. A sense of vibration in the upper right extremity, a sense of pain in the upper left limb and other sensory modalities present in both upper extremities were accepted (on the chosen...

The diploma thesis deals with the emotional experience of patients with chronic renal failure. It aims to explore positive and negative emotional experiences, the presence of depressive and anxiety symptoms, the degree of anger and alexithymia in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. The theoretical part summarizes previously published theoretical knowledge in this area and the empirical part describes the statistical measurement and comparison of selected variables of emotional experience in the research sample. The theoretical part is divided into 4 chapters, the first of them deals with the medical aspects of chronic renal failure and its treatment. The second chapter deals with the coping with illness, defines psychological aspects of chronic disease and describes the patient's subjective perception of the disease and attitudes towards the disease. The third chapter summarizes the definitions of emotions and emotional experience and defines the most respected theories of emotion. The fourth chapter describes the emotional experiences of illness, factors affecting the emotional experience of illness and deals with depression, anxiety, anger and alexithymia, at the end focuses on current research in this area. The empirical part is devoted to the empirical investigation of...
Prediction of the Antidepressant Effect of Ketamine Based on Clinical Parameters and Intoxication Phenomenology
Andrashko, Veronika ; Horáček, Jiří (advisor) ; Papežová, Hana (referee) ; Juřica, Jan (referee)
Background: ketamine is a rapid and potent antidepressant treatment, however no sufficient predictors for tailored treatment have been identified to date. The aim of the thesis was to identify possible clinical and phenomenological characteristics, associated with better antidepressant response in patients receiving ketamine. Materials and methods: data from 86 depressed patients from cohorts A (2010-2015) and B (2018-2022) were utilized. All patients underwent ketamine infusion and demographic as well as clinical assessment (severity of depressive symptoms, subjective and objective anxiety and anhedonia before and after ketamine application). In addition, an electrocardiogram was taken to assess heart rate variability in cohort A and blood pressure, heart rate, and altered state of consciousness scales were recorded in cohort B during ketamine intoxication. Results: in cohort A, the use of higher doses of benzodiazepines was associated with worse response at day 3 (p = 0.04) and day 7 (p = 0.02) after ketamine administration. Responders showed higher heart rate (p = 0.001) and differed from nonresponders in heart rate variability (p = 0.011). In cohort B, responders reached higher values od systolic (p = 0.003) and diastolic (p = 0.005) blood pressure during intoxication, but not higher heart...
Depression in the elderly with focus on people with cognitive deficit
Věchetová, Gabriela ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (advisor) ; Šivicová, Gabriela (referee)
Depressive symptoms are very common among people with neurocognitive disorder. The comorbidity of both diseases and the overlap of their symptoms complicates correct diagnosis and thus also the initiation of a correct treatment. The instruments of depression measuring in seniors with a severe cognitive deficit are also a discussed issue. The subject of the theoretical part is to describe the issue of depression and cognitive disorders in the old age with a focus on Alzheimer's disease, which is the most common mental disorder in the elderly together with depression. The goal of the empirical part of the thesis is to research based on the interviews with seniors if the most frequently used method of depression measuring in the elderly, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), is a suitable measuring instrument also in seniors with a cognitive deficit and further examine how these seniors actually experience the individual mood qualities which are the subjects of items in GDS. Forty seniors with a various degree of cognitive deficit participated in the research. The study results showed that the questionnaire is usable for seniors with a mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia. To detect the border of the cognitive deficit, below which it is not suitable to use the depression measuring method GDS, a...
Depressive rumination: testing the analytical rumination hypothesis in patients with depressive disorder
Janíčková, Petra ; Preiss, Marek (advisor) ; Dymešová, Gabriela (referee)
Depression is commonly viewed as a pathology. Depressive rumination, one of the key symptoms of depression is thought to be a maladaptive cognitive style that contributes to worse and longer depressive episodes. Here I present an alternative approach called the analytical rumination hypothesis (ARH). ARH proposes that depression is an evolved response to complex analytical problems. In a study on inmate patients of the National institute of mental health in Klecany with diagnosed depression we tested the validity of the ARH through assessing the influence of depressive rumination on mood, cognitive performance and electrophysiological correlates. Rumination was experimentally induced by expressive writing. In the control condition we used the distractive writing method. The results show a corresponding effect of rumination on the mood of our patients as expected. However, we were not able to see the proposed effects on cognitive abilities. KEY WORDS Depression, rumination, adaptation, cognition, affective state, neural correlates
Influence of experimental intestinal dysbiosis on behavioral, neuroendocrine and immune properties of mice and the possibility of modifying it by administration of probiotic strain Escherichia coli O83:K24:H31
Avramová, Pavla ; Černý, Viktor (advisor) ; Roubalová, Radka (referee)
The gut microbiota is a key factor influencing the function of many organs in the human body, including the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems. This dynamic ecosystem can be modulated by diet, age, environment, even medication. The balanced composition of the microbiota is crucial for individual health, and its disruption leads to dysbiosis. The connection between the gut and the central nervous system is mediated by the microbiota-gut- brain axis. This axis consists of several pathways interconnected to mutually regulate their functions. Among the major components of the axis are the neural pathway, led by the vagus nerve, the immune pathway, and the endocrine pathway, including the HPA axis. Recent studies suggest that probiotic bacteria have the ability to partially rectify dysbiosis and alleviate its consequences for the organism. This thesis focuses on researching the impact of gastrointestinal tract microbiota on the behaviour, immunity, and neuroendocrine aspects of mice. It delves into experimentally inducing dysbiosis using antibiotics and subsequently addressing it with the probiotic bacterium Escherichia coli O83:K24:H31. The aim is to determine whether these probiotics can mitigate the adverse effects of dysbiosis on the immune and neuroendocrine systems, as well as behavioural...

Evolutionary Design of EEG Data Classifier
Byly otestovány dva algoritmy, NSGA-II a NSGA-III. Vygenerované klasifikátory dosáhly průměrné přesnosti 91.36 \%, senzitivity 91.82 \% a specificity 90.84 \%.
