Non-economic neocolonialism and its conflicts
Dvořák, Michal ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze specific phenomenon of non-economic neocolonialism and its conflicts. I have done the analysis of two conflicts (in Western Sahara and in Namibia) in context of the Cold War, I was trying to discover the context between dynamics and domestic political development of metropolitan country and the conflict. The next aspect was a regional dimension of the conflicts, that is why I analyzed the influence of neighboring countries and their motivation in the conflicts. The main aspect was an international dimension of the conflicts, that is why I examined the approach of the Soviet Union, the United States of America, the United Nations and the Organization of African Unity to the conflicts. The main research question was: What types of processes and mechanisms have led Namibia to independence, while the Western Sahara was still under foreign control? The next questions were: What led the superpowers to affect the conflicts, which were in the periphery of world competition? How behaved the world organizations during the conflicts? Had any influence in these conflicts? And last: What kind of interest had the neighboring countries in these conflicts?
Growing Role of China in African Security
Květová, Lenka ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Werkman, Kateřina (referee)
Chinese economic expansion in Africa is a widely discussed topic, but less academic attention is being paid to the role China plays in African security. Since the late 1990s Chinese activity in Africa had been growing rapidly. Beijing's interests are predominantly economic, mostly represented by market seeking and foreign direct investments, and political, generally perceived as a mutual support in international organizations. The thesis focuses on the traditional principle of non-interference in how Chinese policy towards African security has been evolving together with growing Chinese interests on the continent. The People's Republic of China influences African security matters in four areas: diplomatic involvement, arms deals, support and financing, and military cooperation. By analyzing those areas with a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, concrete cases have been identified, when China interfered in internal affairs of particular states, thus altering its policy of non- interference towards more pragmatic and case by case based approach.
Indonesia: Hotbed for Terrorist Activities?
Lim, Selynn Yan Ting ; Aslan, Emil (advisor) ; Karmazin, Aleš (referee)
Selynn Yan Ting Lim Abstract The thesis endeavours to use the concept of relative deprivation to explain and account for the reasons behind the various manifestations of political and religious tension in Indonesia. From the most recent series of bombings in Surabaya in 2018, to the conflicts in the Maluku Islands back in 1999, it is undeniable that Indonesia is not immune to extremist activities or religious- political conflicts. The involvement of Political Entrepreneurs (PEs), such as giving a frame to people's perceived grievances, drive sentiments of being deprived in relative to other groups. Such feelings are especially made salient with the influence of social media. At the same time, the Indonesian government's advocacy of the wasatiyyah concept, which means middle-path Islam, appears to be its most effective tool in countering the trend of extremism in the society. However, such an interpretation of Islam is potentially at odds with the "right" form of Islam as practiced by the Muslims in Saudi Arabia. Faced with increasing pressure from Islamic hardliners in the society, the Indonesian state ideology - Pancasila - is under much threat as people are gradually becoming disillusioned with it.
"All for one, one for all, but it needs to make sense" Etnography of majorettes sport fans
Soukup, Anna ; Halbich, Marek (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
Baton twirling is a sport industry with a specific fan base. The fan community typically consists of parents and supporting friends of the baton twirling children. Baton twirling represents a significant socializing environment for both children and their enthusiastic parents and friends - fans. The social status and the role of fans within this community are subject to a symbolic capital in the form of experience and knowledge of "how-to-do-it". During the training and competition period, the hierarchy is changing within the group of fans that were monitored, which provides the community members with either a dominant or, alternate, subordinate position. The changing of the "leaders" in the role of the fans' base brings along high emotions and usually also short-term conflicts in social interactions. In other situations, a hierarchy is not created and the group members perceive each other as equal and support each other in the achievement of their common goal. The researcher has been exposed to the environment she describes and to the emotions and tensions existing therein, and she has separated her own personal perceptions, attitudes and biases with the aim to correctly reflect her experience in the research. The ethnographic research of an athlete's group, or its fans' base, respectively, has...

Nováková, Veronika ; Frintová, Dita (advisor) ; Sedláček, Miroslav (referee)
Mediation as an Alternative Form of Dispute Resolution, Abstract, Keywords Abstract My Rigorosum Thesis "Mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution" reflects the legal regulation of mediation in force in the legal order of the Czech Republic, analyses this regulation and subjects it to critical assessment. It is possible to state that mediation and its use has been existing in our society since time immemorial, however it is necessary to point out that modern society got to know mediation better only in connection with its legislative alteration in the Act on Mediation which implemented the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2008 on certain aspects of mediation in civil and commercial matters. Following this circumstance, this alternative becomes supported and mediation services are deliberately used. With regard to the above stated, the purpose of this Rigorosum Thesis is to determine whether the current regulation of mediation in the Czech legal order is efficient or not and at the same time, based on the made analysis, the Thesis proposes how to remove the application as well as interpretation problems contained in the current legal regulation. The Rigorosum Thesis is coherently divided into chapters which logically follow one another and each of them deals with...
