Incredible Adam Spark. Between translation and transformation

This BA thesis is concerned with the translation of a part of the novel The Incredible Adam Spark written by a Scottish author Alan Bissett and its consequent stylistic analysis. This thesis deals mainly with the question of reproduction of a literary work in a different socio-cultural environment that it was created in, it discuses the achievable degree of objectivity and authenticity during the process of translation and finally it concentrates on the role of a translator as a mediator between the writer and the reader. One of the examined fields is also the question of the translator's involvement in the reformulation of the translated material, in other words, his role as a partial co-author, who is incapable of depersonalized transmission of information between the writer of the source text and its recipient. The thesis itself is divided into three main parts. First part provides theoretical framework dealing with the general question of the process of translation and its principles. Second part consists of the translation of a part of the text in question. Third part concludes by analysing the chosen procedures and encountered problems in relation to the theoretical framework mentioned above.
African-American Mothers in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin and Toni Morrison's Beloved

This BA thesis examines the concept of a black mother as a key figure in the fight for freedom as depicted in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin and further explored in Toni Morrison's Beloved. Stowe's novel presents the idealized concept of motherhood in characters such as Eliza Harris, Aunt Chloe, Mary Bird and Rachel Halliday. These characters represent Stowe's ideology of Christian motherhood, in which the mother acts as a mediator of moral and religious principles in her family and community. To enable the identification of white middle-class female readers with the African-American characters in her novel, Stowe employed a distinctive method of characterization in Uncle Tom's Cabin. One of the main characteristics of her female figures is their ability to perform a maternal role. Mother love is depicted as a universal force, which is common to both white and African-American mothers, and which is equivalent to the love of Christ. Stowe believed that motherhood based on Christian values would free the United States from slavery and rebuild her society. Between Human and Animal. Construction of Dog's Subjectivity

The bachelor thesis "Between human and animal: Construction of dog's subjectivity"deals with the problem of position of pets, dogs particularly, to the categorisation of human and animal. Its aim is to describe what the manners of stating the dog's subjectivity are, by studying the keeper's behaviour toward their dogs, and to prove that the dogs are beside of the notion of the strict division of culture and society on one side and nature on the other. Theoretically the author relies on the thoughts of researchers, who deal with societies where people don't divide culture and nature and non-humans are endowed with subjectivity, methodologically the thesis is anchored in ethnographic approach. As for the research, the author conducted six interviews with dog -keepers, which were complemented by observation of people and their dogs while dog-walking. The empirical part is focused on the data analysis and the author describes the dog-keepers' behaviour and looking for such behaviour through which people establish dogs' subjectivity. The thesis shows, that people think of their dogs as family members, who are often treated as children and impute them with human personality and abilities. Kierkegaard's conception of existence

The topic of the bachelor thesis is "Kierkegaard's conception of existence". There are both the life of the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard and his philosophy discussed. The issue of human existence is analysed with its main three stages which are focused on aesthetics, ethics and religion. These stages of existence are at first described and afterwards compared with each other. The aesthetic represents the first stage of life and the religious stage is considered to be the highest aim of existence. The thesis deals with despair and anxiety with respect to being of human existence. Kierkegaard's philosophy is necessary to understand as to indirect advice appealing to our own existence. Industrial culture, photography and child

Thesis tracks historical, social and artistic aspects of industrial culture, with focus on two main fields: architecture and photography. Thesis also includes a brief chapter about industrial music and interview with Franz Trechler, who is a famous musician, for completion. The outset of industrial architecture, its development and revitalization, placement in contemporary culture are the stressed themes. There is also focus on the artists who engaged/are engaging in industrial painting and photography. Apart from overview of aforementioned topics thesis also includes an opinion of unbiased child observer on industrial architecture and photography. These two are combined in a work of applied art consisting of collage of photographs with added mixed media. Complementary questionnaire was also part of the research. The group of children consists of three different classes so various ages could be represented. As a conclusion, thesis compares the works with corresponding parts of the RVP and rlooks into the hypothesis, that artwork on previously unknown topic can be succesfully fulfied. Original author's artwork consists of series of surreal collages using photographs, which are completed with drawing and where the compositions were inspired by industrial music.
Experiencing of schizophrenia and staying atdepartment of psychiatry

A theme of this bachelor thesis is a subjective experience of psychosis and stay at department of psychiatry. The aim of this thesis is to provide a view into psychosis from patients' prism as well as an effort to map their experiences in a certain way by searching for common features. A theoretical part of the thesis outlines a concept of psychosis or more precisely mainly a concept of schizophrenia from several points of view - psychiatric, psychological theories of S. Freud and C. G. Jung, socially developmental, cognitive, constructivist and also alternative point of view. It also briefly deals with issues concerning experience with regard to pathology of psychosis and options of its treatment. An empirical part of the thesis which is based on the author's personal research created using a grounded theory describes experiences of five respondents from psychiatric ward and also experiencing of psychosis focusing on a psychotic episode. The questions in the research are also focused on reasons of hospitalization, individuals' understanding of a situation, influence of psychosis on other people, contribution or disfavour of hospitalization or treatment. Miroslava Mayerová Title of the Bachelor's Thesis: Art group 12/15 and its place in the second half of the 20th century Czech art Abstract This thesis focuses on the evolution and influence of art group 12/15 on socio-cultural development of society in the second half of the 20th century. The theoretical part encompasses the socio-cultural environment and historical situation before and during the formation of the group, describes its formation, and presents the work of individual group members until their second joint exhibition. The didactic part teaches students the group's activities by utilising concepts used by 12/15. The practical part of the work carries out didactic task and by form of self-assess evaluates its feasibility and usefulness. The work includes historical documents and articles about group.
The analysis of movie characters of cyborg-woman from the perspective of the postmodern and post-theoretical approaches to the body and the identity constitution.

The thesis focuses on the analysis of the basic types of the film characters portraying artificial women: creatures who combine "femininity" (humanity) and technology, and who show female sexual characteristics or features that are stereotypically perceived as female-like (e.g. female cyborgs, female androids, female robots). The characters are analyzed and approached from the perspective of postmodern philosophy and post-theory studies; the forming of their body and identity is analyzed on the account of the narrative. The aim of the thesis is to explore whether the film representations of female cyborgs are similar to real cyborgs in the sense that they bring liberalization from the point if view of posthumanism and cyberfeminism, or whether they can only be perceived as the prime form of the Foucaltian body-as-machine, i.e. perfectly controllable precise technicist bodies which are created by the current power dispositions. What is Phenomenology? The Inevitability of the Clash between Husserl and Heidegger

Based on the explicit Husserl-Heidegger polemic, which concerned the ''Phenomenology'' entry for Encyclopaedia Britannica, my thesis captures conflict between the two protagonists precisely when it becomes direct. Tracing the main issues of their dispute, I will firstly demonstrate that the conflict is not a consequence of mutual misunderstanding, but rather a disagreement coming from the core itself of their respective theories. It could therefore not have been avoided. Secondly, I will show that the leading intentions of both traditional versions of phenomenology are not only irreconcilable, but essentially contradictory.

This thesis will be focused on the analysis of the basic types of the female artificial movie characters - the beings connecting "femininity" (humanity) and technology. These characters holds the external female sexual signs or the characteristics stereotypically perceived as female (e.g. cyborg/cyborg woman, android woman, robotess). My issue will be examinated from the perspective of postmodern approach to the process of shaping their bodies and identities in relation to the narrative movie structure. The characters will be divided into categories based on their dominating physical and "social" function in the story. The subsequent identification and interpretation of physicality, identity and relations with other characters of the narrative will be based not only on principles of semiotic analysis, but will take into account especially the approach of postmodernism. The main theoretical basis for this paper will be the theory of poststructuralism and so called post theories - a theory of posthumanism, transhumanism and cyberfeminism.
