Ethical dilemmas of social working with children and youth in low facilities

The task of this diploma thesis is to describe and summerize the ethical dilemmas that occur in the work of social workers in low-threshold facilities for children and youth. The aim of this work is to formulate individual ethical dilemmas faced by social workers in social work with risky youth in low-threshold facilities for children and youth, and then to perform subsequently the analysis of one selected ethical dilemma using three ethical theories. The basis for collecting information was a qualitative research - the research probe, specifically, the method of questioning, the technique of the semi-structured interview with social workers. The diploma thesis is divided into five chapters in which I describe the formation and development of low-threshold facilities, the clients of these facilities and the aspects influencing their risk. Other chapters are devoted to ethics and ethical dilemmas in general. In conclusion of the thesis, the analysis of the specific ethical dilemma from the practice of the interviewed social workers is carried out, using three ethical theories deontology, utilitarianism and ethics of care. This is the case when ethics and social work link and point out the possibility of using ethical theories in professional practice.
Multicultural Topics in Youth Club Using Treshold Principles

There are many aproaches to coexistence people from different culture, in the context of modern world. One of the aproaches is multicultural education. Significant attention has been given to multicultural education in school context, but only little attention has been given to multicultural education in context out of school environment. The aim of this work is presented view to field multicultural education in context out of school environment, specifically in youth club using the treshold principles. Main research method is semi-structure interviews with coordinators of youth club using the treshold priciples in Plzeňský and Karlovarský region, next method is document analysis.
Analysis of social workers education in non-state non-profit organisations

The thesis describes the possibilities in profesional development of social workers in drop-in centres for youth and children in Czech Republic considering the increase of quality standards in providing social services. In theoretical part of the thesis there is a focus on social work specifications as a profession in context of czech social politics especially in non-state non-profit sector which offers space for organizations providing quality social services. Then we deal with the possibilities of social workers professional development via various forms of supervision or other education. Exploratory inquiry aims to concrete possibilities of professional development from the point of view of social workers in drop-in centres for youth and children in Czech Republic regarding to valid Standards of quality in providing social services regulation. The methods of document analysis and online survey are used in the thesis.
Low - threshold institutions - work with clients, preparation of social workers

This thesis deals with low-threshold institutions for juveniles. First part describes the usual clients and their problems, i.e. what are clients' needs and what the institution is supposed to offer them. Influence of the society on an individual mental development are covered as it is one of the important agents of problems in the youth. Briefly is presented the Czech streetwork association, an organization supporting low-threshold institutions. The theoretical part includes origin and historical development of low-threshold institutions, their standards, their focus group and methods of work with clients. Second part contains results of a survey carried out among low-threshold institutions workers. The questionnaire was focused on motivation for this particular job, methods of work, burnout syndrome etc. The practical part of the thesis also includes a description of a chosen institution. Personal experiences is described to complete an overview of requirements and effects of the low-threshold institutions.
The Authority of Contact Worker in Low Treshold Institution for Children and Youth

The thesis explores authority of a contact worker in low-threshold facilities for children and youth. The first part deals with the definition of authority in general and its insertion in today's context. So called relativism of authority is described in the thesis and its impact on contemporary youth. Rejection of formal authorities led to the need to work with authority differently. Formation of low-threshold facilities for children and youth reflected this need. The second part deals with two basic concepts which are applied in low-threshold facilities. These are Salesian pedagogy and the concept of identity work. By comparing these two concepts we get the form of authority a contact worker should have. The goal of this thesis is to bring impetus to the debate on forms of authority in new centres, such as low-threshold facilities for children and youth.
Evaluation of Low - treshold services for children and youth in Hradec Králové

My diploma thesis deals with Low-threshold services for children and youth and with fulfilling of the standards for quality in social services. Firstly I analysed problems of leisure time, historical events in the development in Low-threshold services for children and youth and binding documents for social workers. These problems are also discussed in relevance to the social services law. I mentioned the principles of low-threshold, aims of these establishments, target group and the whole process of this programme. One chapter deals with the management and financing and with social workers, their qualities, competences and supervision as the aide in self-education, and beneficiaries of social services and their characteristics. What threatens these beneficiaries are socio-pathological phenomenons, the most important ones are listed and I added the prevention. I described one mentioned establishment, which employs volunteers. For the evaluation of fulfilling of standards in social services I have chosen two low-threshold services for children and youth from Hradec Králové, where I have found if the standars are fulfilled or not by means of studying of methodology, observations and interviews with workers and beneficiaries. For conclusion I suggested some improvements which could be used in these establishments.
The analyse of educational needs of workers in lowthreshold clubs for children and adolescents

Diploma thesis " The analyse of educational needs of workers in low-threshold clubs for children and adolescents" deals with actual thema of education of skilled workers in social services. Theoretical part of thesis deals with definifion of term low-threshold club for children and adolescents, legal base of this service in the law systém of social services, provided services and with target group. In next chapter is introduced scholastic system of education of social workers, defined profile of graduates at college or university study and legal demands on education of workers of social services. In the last chapter of theoretical part we introduce profile of worker in low-threshold club for children and adolescents, with demands of personal qualities and exigenties on his or her expertness. Practical part of thesis deals with analyse of educational needs of workers in low-threshold clubs in Prague and district of St ední echy. At the beginning we introduce each distrikt and audiodiagnostic method used for analyse. Results of analyse are dealt with proposal of educational courses, which are focused at workers of low-threshold clubs. On the basis of results comparison are designed areas of courses and their content.
Institution for Spending Leisure Time of the Youth up to the Age of 18

This diploma thesis deals with the institutions for spending leisure time of the youth up to the age of 18. Specifically, is focused on a selected institution dealing with the topic. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part are provided general concepts and knowledges that relate to the issue of free time, children and youth, non-profit organisations and low-threshold facilities for children and youth. The theoretical part is based on study of professional sources used to understand the issue. The practical part is based on a research focused on the analysis of activities in low-threshold facility for children and youth Ponorka in Žďár nad Sázavou. The research is carried out by method of institutions analysis by Bronislaw Malinowski to verify the hypothesis. On the practical part follow an evaluation of the research, which lists the possible shortcomings surveyed institution and proposals for possible solutions to eliminate them or at least mitigate. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the selected institution for the spending leisure time of young up to 18 years and evaluate if it meets a public purpose and mission.
Benefits for standards of qualities in social services in institutions for children and youth

This final thesis deals with benefits of standards in social services. It is aimed to reasons and sources for developement of social service standards in a connection with the socioeconomic change of a society after 1989. Furthermore, it offers a view on specialities of social work with children and youth and specialities of their needs linked with use of social service offers. It also reflects general processes in institutions which implement quality standards of social work as tools to increase its own services. This work also shows a resume and results of actual theoretical and practical outputs directed to benefit of standards of social services. This thesis currently offers a probe into social workers view to a particular institution for children and teen-agers to uncover benefits of standards of quality in their institution.
