Analysis of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic Communication During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Voldřich, Adam ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
The Czech Republic was hit by Covid-19 in several waves similarly to what other countries around the world have been experiencing. Crisis and risk communication are essential in such perilous times. In the Czech context risk and emergency communication had several significant properties, there were several Health Ministers that changed during a very short time, communication proved to be ill-prepared and without unified vision and failed to systematically improve. This study uncovers those shortcomings using content analysis of official statements made by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and effective comparison of each Health Minister against CDC methodology for risk and emergency communication. The technocratic populism enabled the communication to be framed in a quick response manner while bypassing institutionalized channels, which led to the creation of an illusion of somewhat successful risk communication. The most important underlying issue is the lack of unifying concept of risk communication and inconsistency which led to general confusion and increasing distrust in institutions that ultimately hampered the government's efforts in resolving the situation.

Crisis argumentation during the press conferencies of government by using grice's maxims
Březinová, Markéta ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
Submitted bachelor thesis focuses on the crisis communication in politics and on Grice's maxims applied there. In its theoretical part the thesis analyses the terms crisis and crisis communication. It sets the criteria on which the recognition of crisis is based, as well as it offers theories on how one should create and use arguments in these particular situations. Besides that, the thesis also evaluates general argumentation skills used by politicians during unfavourable times and compare them with principles Paul Grice defined as the base for successful communication. The theoretical part hence furthermore describes Grice's maxims, as well as it monitors Czech politics in selected period and necessary context. Second part of the thesis uses semiotic analysis to examine press conference speeches of selected politicians during the government crisis in March and April 2012 and searches for Grice's maxims used there. It also notices the use of language and the character reflection in their speech. With all that, the thesis fills in the gap in Czech literature focused on effective crisis communication in politics.

Tomíčková, Marta ; Šnýdrová, Ivana (advisor) ; Kopecký, Martin (referee)
6 Abstract This thesis aims to offer a comprehensive view of corporate communication while emphasizing its importance for everyday life of corporations and achievement of their strategic targets. The thesis introduces potential interpretations of corporate communication with the main focus on key moments of corporate communication as well as on consequences non-effective communication has on employee satisfaction and their life in the corporation. In the thesis I opted for the method of compilation and comparison of professional literature along with expert interviews which reveal the quality of internal communication in two selected corporations and prove one-sided view of communication inside corporations. The first part of the thesis provides a detailed look at characteristics of individual communication forms, knowledge of these characteristics being the cornerstone of further research in corporate communication. Besides, this part also describes the principles of active listening, a skill which is frequently omitted from the communication skill list. The second part deals with potential interpretations and divisions of corporate communication in professional literature and offers a thorough account of internal communication and its individual aspects. The following part looks at communication between...
Analysis of Crisis Communication in Retail Chains
Pralovszká, Sára ; Ivan, Michal (advisor) ; Marcelli, Miroslav (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on an analysis of crisis communication in food retail chains, using pragmatic linguistic methods. In the theoretical part I deal with speech acts theory from the viewpoint of John L. Austin and Emile Benveniste, Grice's Cooperative Principles and the Theory of Argumentation. I use all these methods in analyzing press releases published by retail chains in the case of a negative food affair. I am therefore interested in the way those linguistic tools are used by the authors in the press releases in order to communicate most effectively in a time of crisis, so as to prevent the loss of either costumers or the good name of the company. I will also focus on the most frequent mistakes made by the authors of press releases. The aim of my thesis is to find out whether it is possible to find some repetitive mechanisms used in the communication of different crisis topics. The main hypothesis is that although there are different crisis situations which need to be communicated, communication methods used in individual press releases are similar and they often recur. Key words: pragmatics, speech acts, cooperative principles, argumentation, crisis communication, food affair, press release.
