Dichotomy of Spoken and Written Language in the Internet Communication

This diploma thesis discusses the topic of spoken and written language forms and their mutual blending, especially in internet communication. The first part defines the terms of spoken and written language based on specialised literature. The focus is on how perception of this dichotomy has changed over time and the different approaches to the matter will be mentioned. Spoken and written language in this thesis are based on dichotomic aspects such as possibility/impossibility of preparation, monologic/dialogic signs, standard/substandard language and private/public tone. The specifics of the language on the Internet will be also shortly summarized. Since the sample analyzed in the second part of this thesis is an internet blog, the conclusion of the theoretical part contains also characteristics of blogs in general. In the introduction of the second part the analyzed sample is presented - that is texts of one internet blog. These texts are analyzed on all language levels. The focus is aimed especially on the signs indicating blending of spoken and written language, more precisely on those means that indicate spoken language in these graphically formed texts. The Bachelor's thesis deals with the expression of emotions, feelings, and moods through internet communication. The thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical and an analytical part. The theoretical part summarizes the existing knowledge on internet communication and nonverbal communication, and briefly introduces emotions in the broadest sense. The analytical part aims to define 'smileys' which are used in written communication on the Internet. The theme of the diploma thesis is the analysis of the "mother language" on the Czech Internet forums (especially on emimino.cz, baby-cafe.cz, mimibazar.cz). In the theoretical part the author introduces the varieties of the national language. She defines the characteristics, structure and social differentiation of the analysed sociolect. Then she presents the fundamental aspects of human communication and also devotes to the particularities of communication on the Internet. In the practical part she carries out a language analysis of the collected material. She focuses primarily on the lexical means, mainly diminutives, compounds and abbreviations. The aim of the thesis is to present the specific type of expressing and at the same time to contribute to the research of the non-standard Czech language with this study.

Bachelor thesis "1000 věcí, co mě serou (1000 Things I Hate): linguistic analysis of the blog" investigate the linguistic tools used in this blog. The mentioned blog is written by three authors and the concept is simle - in regularly posts to write about things, people and situations that ruin our lives. The main objective is to provide a comprehensive picture of the linguistic tools used on the blog and the overall style of the blog. This work is accomplished by analyzing the morphological, lexical, syntactic and hypersyntactic level and stylistic analysis of the factors and tools used on the blog. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the definition of a blog to highlight the characteristics of blogging. The thesis is also focused on describing the specific language tools which are typical for written communication on the internet.

Bachelor`s thesis Internet forums about Czech language focuses primarily on analysis of selected internet forums that reflect Czech language in internet communication. Internet language shows its own specifics and characteristics that arise from the medium in which it is being used. Therefore the theoretical part of this thesis concentrates on characterizing various forms of internet communication and describing different types of synchronous and asynchronous communication. Further there are in more detail typical attributes of this communication described, its advantages and disadvantages and also mentioned the meaning of the term of netiquette. One chapter is dedicated solely to language characteristics, above all to written - spoken dichotomy. Last theoretical chapter is dedicated to Czech language in internet communication as such and the phenomenon of so called Grammar Nazis. Practical part of this thesis describes and further analyses posts in three chosen internet discussions in internete forum Nyx that focuse primarily on Czech language, and also one Facebook page dedicated to Czech Grammar Nazis. Social network sites (and new media in general) transform the relationship between professional media organizations and their audiences. My bachelor thesis "Use of social networks in improving communication with the readership on example of IHNED.cz" focuses on how the media use pages or accounts on social network websites Facebook and Twitter in order to communicate with their readership in real time. In the first, theoretical, part, I define the notion of social networks and describe the history and functioning of the most widespread social network sites, with particular emphasis on Facebook and Twitter. The basis of the thesis also touches on the description of the possibilities and mechanisms of usage of social network sites in terms of the news media. In the research segment of the thesis I examine the activity of the Czech news server IHNED.cz on social network sites Facebook and Twitter by means of quantitative analysis. The intention is to detect what content is offered to fans (followers) of IHNED.cz, whether it evokes a response in them and to what extent IHNED.cz is communicating with its readers through social network sites. The Thesis Role of Virtual Friendship and Community Networks in the Life of Adolescents is dealing with rather new phenomena of virtual friendship on the internet social network that is connected with young generation to 20 years old. The text consists of two main parts. In the introducing section the main characteristics of comunity social networks in connection to adolescents described on the basis of teorethical analyse, interpretation of literature and description of their main functions. Especially social networking site Facebook is detailed characterized, because virtual friendship is mainly connected with it. The practical part contains research on theme of online communities in the life of adolescents. A public iquirry and a questionnaire were used as research tools. Four goals and six hypothesis were defined. Two hyphothesis were verified.
Kids,parents and their awareness of safe and legal internet content usage

This bachelor thesis is dealing with the question of what awareness is of the safe and legal usage of the internet. In the theoretical part of this thesis it is dealt with primary and secondary socialization as a process of forming personality of the individual, mutual communication, preventive action in a way of parent's supervision and safe software. Afterwards, there are described choices and risks associative of the internet. There are briefly shown projects, which are helpful for children, parents and educators in a way of getting knowledge about information and communication technologies. It makes effort to prevent and minimalize risks connected with their usage. The second part is build on partly standardize interviews, which were carried out in the 8 families. There are shown the statements of children in an age of 11-13 years to the contrary of parent's statements. It shows, whether the parents and children are aware of risks connected with using the internet. Whether they consider risks as a real thing and they are able to minimalize them. It surveys of where and how much time children spend on the internet, what kind of web pages they visit and if there are clear rules with using the internet within the family.
