Czech-German Declaration in selected Czech and German daily newspapers

In this paper I study point of view of four czech and german newspapers and points of view of people, which they cement and that all in case of Czech-German Declaration. The studied newspapers are Czech Právo and MF Dnes and on the other side German Süddeutsche Zeitung and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. These will be compared i four time perionds: December 1996 - January 1997, May 1997, first and tenth anniversary of Declaration.

Czech -german relationships in Dacice region during the 1. part of 20. century

The aim of this work is to describe czech-german relationship in theneibourhood of the town Dačice with a view to villages Volfířov and Lipolec during the first part of twentieth century. These two villages were chosen for their different position after occupation of the borderland by Germany in 1938. Lipolec together with Slavonic's district were, after the event called Mnichov contract, taken by Germany but Volfířov wasn't. These villages, in spite of being distant just a few kilometres, passed through very different procession regarding of nationalities. Volfirov was always czech village and there did not exist not even a minority of Germans. On the contrary in Lipolec there was a majority of inhabitans of german's nationality, after 1918 with a minority of Czechs. Interesting point is the postwar situation in Lipolec where took place the wilde transfer of Germans. The subject of this work is to show czech-german relationship in the district and its changes in the named period and put them into the world context. The České středohoří Mountains - Cultural Landscape

Thesis "The České Středohoří Mountains - Cultural Landscape" deals with the territory of the České Středohoří Mountains' Protected Area as the landscape of settlements, namely settlements of rural character. Based on the field research, the basic characteristics of vernacular architecture in that territory are described and selected influences, that completed local villages' rural construction, are depicted. The thesis also provides evidence of regional interest in the national history and geography of the České Středohoří Mountains, especially in rural construction and urbanism. This interest in the national history and geography is discussed in the context of the development of Czech and German national emancipation. The Media Image of the Centre Against Expulsions in Polish and Czech Daily Newspapers in the Years 2003 and 2004

Bachelor thesis "The Media Image of the Centre Against Expulsions in Polish and Czech Daily Newspapers in the Years 2003 and 2004" deals with a comparison of four Polish and Czech daily newspapers and their approach to the subject of the Centre Against Expulsion which is an institution initiated by the German Federation of Expellees. In the first part the thesis treats the circumstances leading to the creation of a foundation which is supposed to promote the idea of the Centre and describes the debate that was started about this issue. The merits of the thesis are based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the dailies Rzeczpospolita, Gazeta Wyborcza, Právo and Mladá fronta DNES. By this analysis the thesis monitors how much space the newspapers devoted to the topic, to which opinions they gave a chance to be heard and what was their attitude to the question. It also deals with the chosen lexis and other categories that can show the approach to the issue. On this basis the thesis compares the Polish and Czech newspapers. The Attitudes of the Witnesses to the Transfer of the Germans from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War

This diploma thesis is focused on the attitudes of the witnesses to the transfer of Germans from Czechoslovakia after the second world war (WWII). The aim of the thesis are attitudes of the eye witnesses of the incidents of the WWII and incidents that happened directly after the WWII to this issue, as well as to find out why is this their attitude and if this attitude wasn't possibly changed in passing years. The work consists of a contextual part, where is analyzed relevant literature and where is created a picture of the context of the times before the transfer and the times of the transfer and all this in the light of nationalist phenomenon. The work also contains a research part of a qualitative survey, an empirical survey. The research approach is biographical approach and narative and narative semistructured interviews were chosen as a data collective method. The research as well as its subsequent analysis are based on the methodological literature.

Situation of German population in Teplice-Šanov Regarding the Transfer of Germans from the Czechoslovak Republic.

This thesis uses archive materials to map the post-war situation of German population in a Czechoslovak district of Teplice-Šanov. Before the war, the German population made for more than 70% of the total population of this borderline area. In 1947 it was only about 7%. In the first months after the end of the war, 27,000 - 34,000 of German nationals were banished from the area. In the following transfers 29,487 were forced out between February and August of 1946. More Germans continued to leave the country after the regular transfers in additional transports up until 1950. Only some specific groups of German speaking inhabitants were permitted to stay in Czechoslovakia - antifascists, Austrians, German experts, people living in mixed marriages, some of the German clergy, and those who were pardoned. In Teplice-Šanov it was a considerably large group of specialists (especially in the field of mining) who remained. The issue of repopulating the regions affected by the expulsion of Germans is also addressed. Settlers from inland, other borderline areas, Slovakia and from abroad came to the Teplice-Šanov district. The total number of newcomers in May 1947 was 47,402. The position of the German parts of the Czech lands in terms of Rokkan's model of center and periphery: The case of Austria-Hungary and Czechoslovakia

This work deals with the case of Czech border in two consecutive periods -period between 1867-1918 and period of First Czechoslovak Republic. The main scope of work is comparison of these periods from the perspective of Rokkan's model of center and periphery. This comparison takes place through three dimensions: military-administrative, economic and cultural. First, theoretical part contains the basic concepts of Rokkan's theory as a definition of centre and periphery. Next part is application of the theory which is divided into two parts. First deals with case of Cisleithania and second works with period of Czechoslovakia. In these sections are analyzed party systems of both periods, local governments and elites of Czech Germans and their relations with centre. Work also focus on the industry of the Czech border and its position within the monarchy. Finally, work analyses the overall cultural character of the area. Last part of this work consists of overall comparison of both examined cases.

Czechization of Ceske Budejovice

This bachelor's thesis focuses on select aspects of the process of Czechization of České Budějovice between the mid-19th century until the early 20th century. The aspects in question are mainly the following: economic development, evolution of the population structure, and political competition on a municipal level. In regard to the evolution of the population structure, this thesis primarily focuses on the ambivalence of national identity. As concerns the economic shift, the focal point is the contemporary development of business life in the city and the competition between the Czech and German parties involved. When it comes to political competition, it follows the inner workings of municipal administration and elections, which played a major part the particular way that the national emancipation of the Czech population of České Budějovice developed, not only on a political level.
