Skutelniková, Milena ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis examines the topic of Stereotyping females in high positions in Czech television shows. An analysis of three Czech series Odznak Vysočina, Anatomie života and Zoo examines the treatment of female protagonists in leadership and attempts to reveal their possible stereotyping. The research is conducted using narrative analysis supplemented by qualitative analysis. The theoretical part of the work is based on the thesis that leadership is a gender concept that is anchored in masculinity, which is based on the historical dominance of men in the highest positions. Feminine traits are sought out as unsuited for leadership roles, leading to prejudices that women are not suited for these positions. Based on these ideas, women leaders still face gender stereotypes and prejudices. The aim of this work is to reveal how the narratives of female figures in leadership are constructed and if there are gender stereotypes in their portrayal. Narrative analysis is applied to three research dimensions that are used with existing testing. The dimensions are the position of female protagonists in the narrative, the construction of a woman in leadership as a leader, and the construction of the femininity of a woman in leadership. The resulting work aims to contribute to the debate about the...

Kofroňová, Jana ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Frajer, Václav (referee)
The stereotyping of Africa has recently resonated not only in scientific circles, but is slowly making its way into the wider public consciousness. As Africa's population grows, the continent's importance on the global stage will gradually increase. It is time to realise how much our perceptions are influenced by entrenched stereotypes and to recognise what Africa is really like. This bachelor thesis focuses on the stereotyping of Africa by pupils in Prague grammar schools. In the theoretical part, it discusses the issue of stereotyping and factors that affect it. A specific attention is paid to the topic of stereotyping Africa, emphasizing the differences between experienced ideas about Africa and reality. The thesis has two research questions: to identify the most common stereotypes of Africa and to test the importance of their underlying factors. Through a combination of a survey within pupils and interviews with their teachers, the necessary data was collected. Using a categorisation of terms used by pupils in relation to Africa, three main groups of stereotypes were identified: wildlife, poor Africa, and primitive and underdeveloped Africa. To describe Africans, pupils used words such as illiterate, poor, or negroid. The research showed that all the factors studied contribute to the degree of...

Informace byly shromážděny studiem literatury a analýzou studií souvisejících s daným tématem. V empirické části této práce byl proveden kvalitativní a kvantitativní výzkum. Data byla shromážděna prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření a rozhovorů.

Schneiderová, Magdalena ; Boukalová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to present a comprehensive overview of current knowledge in the field of gender research and social cognition as well as to contribute with results of my own research. The biggest emphasis of the theoretical part lies on stereotypes and gender differences in personality characteristics, topics that are closely related to the research part of this paper. The empirical part answers the question whether information about the sex of a person has impact on how we assess this person's personality. After reading a short biography of a fictitious person, respondents described this person on 30 items of the Bem Sex Role Inventory (Bem, 1974). Results showed that respondents rated some characteristics differently for the male figure than the woman figure. Respondents of both sexes perceived the described man as significantly less Forceful and less Defending his own believes than the described woman. Although not always significantly, all 10 items satiating the BSRI masculinity score showed the same tendency to evaluate the figure of the man as less masculine than the figure of the woman. Part of the Discussion is dedicated to possible interpretations of these results. To obtain a deeper understanding, further research is required.
