The Dialogue of Catholic Theology with Marxism: J. L. Ruiz de la Peňa
MALÝ, Filip
The first part of the thesis traces the various forms of dialogue between Roman Catholic Christians and Marxism in the 19th and 20th centuries: the reactions of the magisterium, the practice of individual Christians, and theological reflection. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to description and evaluation of a specific attempt at dialogue with Marxism by a Spanish Roman Catholic theologian, Juan Luis Ruiz de la Pena Solar (1937-1996). Chapter 1 summarizes the main concepts and currents of Marxism and sets their emergence and development in a contemporary context. Special attention is paid to Marxist orthodoxy and humanist Marxism. Chapter 2 traces the multilayered process of Roman Catholicism's contact with Marxism in terms of the development of the attitudes of the magisterium, ecclesiastical practice, and theology. Chapter 3 describes the situation in Spain in the 20th century that formed the immediate context of Ruiz de la Pena's life, provides a basic biography, and describes his theological orientation and style, his importance for Spanish theology, and provides an overview of the critical responses to his work. Chapter 4 summarizes Ruiz de la Pena's writings on Marxism and provides a detailed analysis of the book "Death and Humanist Marxism: A Theological Perspective". The work is complemented by a more detailed excursus into the thought of the humanist Marxist Adam Schaff.
Reflection and Reconstruction of Critical Theory of Sport
Ondráček, Vojtěch ; Hauser, Michael (advisor) ; Růžička, Jiří (referee) ; Numerato, Dino (referee)
This thesis presents the critical theory of sport that emerged in the 1960s in France. It is based on an analysis of the texts of the main representative of this project, Jean-Marie Brohm, from 1964-1978. It analyzes its basic concepts, theoretical background, sources, methodology and political activism. Critical theory of sport is explained as a specific kind of political theory of sport that applies Marxist and psychoanalytic concepts, resulting in a completely original approach to the study of sport. The thesis makes the categorization of this theory by dividing it into political, economic and ideological critiques. Sport is conceived in this theoretical perspective as a repressive tool of the ruling class, which enables its power reproduction and manipulation of the masses. The inner dynamics of sport depend on the logic of capital and the exploitation, alienation and mechanization of athletes. Next object of analysis is also the ideology of sport and its functions. The thesis also includes a presentation of the historical genesis of the critical theory of sport in the context of the events of May '68, which became a defining moment not only for its emergence, but also for its later development, which the thesis also reflects and explains in a broader context. Emphasis is placed on the...

Hegel's Critique of Ideology
Korda, Tomáš ; Karásek, Jindřich (advisor) ; Znoj, Milan (referee)
This work explores the possibilities of Hegel's critique of liberalisms and Marxism. Firstly, I define the "Return to Hegel", or more precisely, the way how we should conceive of this return to Hegel in order to really return to him. In second part, this formal definition of return is given its content, i.e. Hegel's concept of state. This concept had been denied by the doctrine of liberalism as well as of Marxism and this denial, as I try to demonstrate, can be considered a theoretical cause of totalitarianism. Or, in other words, totalitarianism can be speculatively comprehended as the manifestation of this denial. Thus as long as we live in a post-totalitarian era, Hegel is our contemporary. The last part consists of an explication of Hegel's critique of understanding (Verstand). The main reason for this explication is that liberalism and Marxism are 'understanding'- theories of state, and because of that, they were not able to conceive of the state as an object of Reason (Vernunft) and therefore, they failed to recognize the state as rational in itself. The theoretical result of this analysis is that Hegel's critique of understanding can be grasped, so to speak, as a 'critique of ideology avant la lettre', if the concept of ideology is adequately redefined.
"I and Thou" in the works of Buber and Fromm
Marek, Tomáš ; Pelcová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
Work will deal with the comparison of two great philosophers of the 20th century. Both connects the fact that they were born in a Jewish environment and fundamental philosophical discipline considered ethics. Therefore, both authors agree in their works devoted to the nature of the relationship, "I - Thou", as one of the most pressing philosophical themes. How is their view of this relationship different? What must we do to meet "Thou"? Can a human have a "I and Thou" relationship with god? How can we recognize, that we are in "I and Thou" relationship? These and other questions will be the main subject of my research.

Madelaine Delbrêl - inspiration for lay spirituality Abstract Madeleine Delbrêl is one of significant personalities in the Catholic Church in the twentieth century. Her way of life and her thoughts, in particular those regarding universal vocation to sainthood and mission influenced the Second Vatican Council. Her prophetic inspiration about lay dignity based on baptism was after thirty years expressed in many council documents and so contributed to a change of lay status in the Church. New Anti-Capitalist Left: Classical or Modern Marxism?
Zikmund, Michal ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
The thesis deals with the "New Anti-Capitalist Left" (Nová antikapitalistická levice, NAL), a Czech group radically leftist group that had been established in Prague in the autumn 2009 under the leadership of Nikola Čech, who was a member of the organization World Revolution (Revo) at the time. Revo was considered to be a Trotskyist group. The NAL was concentrating to ideological work as well as attending academic seminars, demonstrations or blockades of far-right activists. It was organizing summer camps where there notable leftist intellectuals were giving lectures, and not only at these camps the NAL was able to establish connections to a fairly wide spectrum of leftist individuals and groups, it was especially cooperating with the KSČM (The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia). Since approximately 2013, it the NAL was functioning besides a citizens' association Left Perspective (Levá perspektiva), since 2014 only the LP is active. The thesis describes, at first, generally the activities and personal background of NAL/LP and the attitudes of their members and active supporters (who we consider persons who were contributing to the web portals of the groups). Then it analyzes its relations and ideological closeness to other Leftist subjects, both political parties (Communist Party of Bohemia and...
Value of Territory: A Critical View on Natural Resources Being a Cause of Ethnic Conflict
Okonkwo Gattuso, Nicole ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
Nicole Okonkwo Gattuso Diploma Thesis Abstract Abstract Keywords: Value of Territory, Natural Resources, Niger Delta Region, Ethnic Conflict, Separatist movements, Biafra. This study deals with the ethnic conflict in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The main objective of this study is to analyse whether the valued territory of the Niger Delta region is the cause of the ethnic conflict in the country. Moreover, the geographical south-east region of Nigeria is trying to separate itself from the rest of the federation because the Igbo population inhabiting this region claims they are being marginalised in the country. However, if the south-east region, called also Biafra, becomes the Biafran Republic it is highly probable that the south-south is going to separate along. The federal government is not satisfied with the fact, as 80% of the federal revenue comes from the Niger Delta region and they do not want to loose it. Therefore, my findings show that if the movement for the secession of Biafra is going to be crushed down by force, the movement will radicalise and get stronger with the intensified dissatisfaction of the local population. The local population of these two geographical regions created many movements which are fighting not only the federal government but also the multination corporation...
