NÁZEV DIPLOMOVÉ PRÁCE A JEJÍ RESUMÉ V JAZYCE ANGLICKÉM (ENGLISH SUMMARY) The name of the thesis: The Legal Protection of databases. What is the value of information? This is the crucial question that arises in relation to the legal protection of databases. The rise of new media created a brand new world that we labeled the information society and whose most valuable asset has become totally interconnected with quality and speed. Hand in hand with this rapid transformation came the power of digitalization, which has permitted the dramatic speeding up of the transfer of data and information, while offering an almost indefinite amount of storage space, consequently making unauthorized and unlawful copying of data simple and efficient. As a result the form of a database has been transformed. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have constantly influenced industry and commerce at all stages and levels and thus the development of the database industry has become crucial for the information society. In other words, society has literally become dependent on the use of different kinds of databases. We encounter them everywhere-from public listings, libraries, telephone listings to free-time activities such are sports databases. Nevertheless, progress in new technologies also carries the new threat of...
Interactive narrative in the era of the digital storytelling
Kohutová, Radka ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
Stories are the cornerstone of common cultural understanding, creativity, and even socialisation and language. They surround us and stimulate us, entertain us, engage us, and even horrify us. We tell them every day and even participate in and create them just by living our lives and interacting with others. Being human simply means being part of a narrative on our journeys through life-right from infancy with the exposure to fairy-tales that afford us the chance to understand and decode our first stories along with language that introduces us to basic concepts like right and wrong. In fact, Tilley claims that "We are socialized through narrative forms, which offer stories to moderate behaviour ('Don't do that or...'), to develop language ('Mary, Mary, quite contrary...'), to engage the imagination ('Beware the wolf in the forest...') or to make us laugh ('This little piggy went to market...')." (Tilley, 1992: 53) Here is also where we are first introduced to the traditional structure and organizing principles behind the phenomenon of storytelling-narrative. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The analysis focuses on Czech case-law in relation to media covering children in their articles. The case-law is really critical of some of the private information that journalists publish about a child's private life. Connelly Kohutová, Radka ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee) ; Sládek, Ondřej (referee)
New media have become an essential element of our everyday lives. They are also a platform for digital art. Through them, readers can encounter so-called 'electronic literature' as a developing cultural form, allowing to some extent, the the mutual influencing of media and genres. Firstly, all electronic literature needs to be consistently differentiated from electronic books, similarly the conversion of classical, analogue works into a digital form. This thesis deals with the definition of this specific area of literature, its reflection, including its historical anchoring. This work is necessarily based on an interdisciplinary approach, it draws on concepts from literary theory, however electronic literature cannot be viewed through its paradigms alone, as traditional definition frameworks and concepts cannot be fully applied in the new media environment. There is also emphasis upon media studies' theory, specifically studies of new media. Concurrently, the work deals with a specific form of narrative, the so- called 'interactive narrative', which is not found solely in the works of electronic literature, but it also has a wide scope. The final section presents the results of the author's research focused on readers' response to selected works of electronic literature with an interactive...
Origins of the Czech and Slovak Digital Narrativity: The History of Text Computer Games in Czechoslovakia
Šidlichovský, Pavel ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Connelly Kohutová, Radka (referee)
The present diploma work describes the early development of digital narrative on the territory of the former Czechoslovakia in the 80's and at the beginning of the 90's of the 20th century. In that period, the text adventure game production and use were influenced by the socio-cultural and economic environment in the east-European Communist bloc, and by its following transformation into a democratic system with market economy. That brought about unique approaches to the computer game development and playing, and it also led to a formation of a cultural phenomenon of digital text games connected with the context of that time. The text deals with a brief historic development of digital game playing in the world, and a general situation in the information technologies on the territory of the former Czechoslovakia including direct participants' selected opinions. Within the framework of the present work, basic theoretical approaches have been presented, examining the adventure games genre, and especially their narrative part and the principles of intertextuality. The latter have been described using the examples of the respective Czechoslovak game production.

What is the value of information? This is the crucial question that arises in relation to the legal protection of databases. The rise of new media created a brand new world that we labelled the information society in which the information is one of the most valuable assets. The power of digitalization came hand in hand with this rapid transformation and has offered us an almost indefinite amount of storage space and permitted us the dramatic increase of speed for the transfer of data and information, while, consequently making violation and infringing of intellectual property rights simpler than ever before. The form of a database has been transformed and has become increasingly important as a way of organizing data and information in the age of information society. This State Doctoral Thesis called The Legal Protection of Databases aims to present the comparative analysis of database protection in three countries-namely the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America.
