New biological markers in lymphoproliferative diseases
Špaček, Martin ; Mandys, Václav (advisor) ; Smolej, Lukáš (referee) ; Lysák, Daniel (referee)
New biological markers in lymphoproliferative diseases Summary The prognosis of patients with lymphoid neoplasms is extremely variable. Reliable prognostic markers could allow the identification of patient subsets that may benefit from alternate approaches. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is associated with approximately one third of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) cases. EBV-DNA is often present in the plasma and whole blood of EBV-associated HL patients. However, the significance of EBV-DNA monitoring is debated. In a cohort of 165 adult HL patients EBV-DNA viral load was prospectively monitored. Our results suggest that assessment of plasma EBV-DNA viral load might be of value for estimation of prognosis and follow-up of patients with EBV-positive HL. The role of the TP53 gene's R72P polymorphism in NHL has been analyzed in several studies but it has not been studied in HL. We have evaluated the role of R72P in 340 NHL and 298 HL patients. Our results support the evidence that R72P is not a prognostic factor in Caucasian NHL patients, and they indicate its irrelevance for HL development or prognosis. In a study of 73 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia we have assessed IgVH mutational status, presence of mutation in TP53 gene and expression of CD38 and ZAP-70. Overall concordance between ZAP-70 expression and IgVH...
The media image of the 1956 and 1960 Summer olympic Games in the Czechoslovak press
Špaček, Martin ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Trunečka, Ondřej (referee)
This diploma thesis named "The media image of the 1956 and 1960 Summer Olympic Games in the Czechoslovak contemporary press" follows the media coverage of the XVI. Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 and the XVII. Summer Olympics in Rome in 1960, in selected Czechoslovak periodicals. To establish a media image, the diploma thesis utilises a qualitative content analysis, comparing the transformation of Olympic news reporting in Melbourne and Rome. It focuses on media content and its permeation through the communist ideology. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and methodological part. The theoretical part begins with the historical development of Czechoslovakia after 1948, when the Communists seized power, and then characterizes the "melting period". The thesis also inquires into the development of media in Czechoslovakia in the 1950s with an emphasis on media legislation, including the introduction of selected periodicals: Rudé Právo (Red Law), Svobodné slovo (Free Word) and Československý sport (Czechoslovak Sport). The methodological part maps how the Czechoslovak press informed its readers about the Olympic events in Melbourne and in Rome. Both Olympic Games are divided into subchapters according to the topics that most resonated in sports news reporting. The conclusion of the thesis...
Analysis of Media Image of Procrastination as a New Type of Discourse of Work in Czechia
Špaček, Martin ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
This master's thesis presents an analysis of the discourse of procrastination in the Czech media, with a special focus on contemporary discourse of work. Procrastination was for long an unknown phenomenon in the Czech Republic, but a few years ago it was possible to notice that it was fast entering people's active vocabularies, and that media articles, indeed whole books, on it were starting to appear. The aim of this thesis is to present, using the example of procrastination, the dynamics of possible forms and transformations of a given media image in selected Czech periodicals between 1.1.1995 and 31.12.2014. The analysis uses the discourse analysis method, as put forward by Norman Fairclough, and for the purposes of interpretation it uses above all critical theories of contemporary work. The media image in the analytical part is described first of all according to the stratification and characterisation of individual texts. Subsequently, the work analyses the structure of these texts, postulating the thesis that the discourse of procrastination comprises various structural elements. In the next part, in a discourse analysis of procrastination, these elements are presented using relevant extracts from the texts. In this part the work also looks at the intertextuality of the texts, the potential...
The media image of ice hockey success at the XVIII Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, 1998, in the Czech contemporary press
Annotation The bachelor thesis The media image of ice hockey success at the XVIII Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, 1998, in the Czech contemporary press describes how domestic press covered the greatest success of Czech ice hockey in history. For the purposes of the thesis, articles from daily press of Právo, Mladá Fronta Dnes and Sport were compared. I...

Comic in Jan Neruda's Columns in 1860s
Špaček, Martin ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis deals with the comic aspect of the first decade of Jan Neruda's vast column work. The main goal of the thesis is to define and clearly arrange the vague terms in the comic area as well as delimit the column within the author's entire journalist work. The first part of the thesis summarizes the research efforts made so far into Neruda's column journalism focusing on its comic component. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the two basic forms of literary comic in Neruda's columns, satire and humour, specifically their foundations, means, forms, goals and topics. The incidence, stability and/or variability of the given comic tools are also discussed. In addition, the thesis describes the interrelating factors that significantly affected the form of the author's column comic in the decade observed: the then social and political climate, Neruda's model reader and (self) censorship. KEY WORDS Neruda, column, comic, satire, humour
