Comparison of selected problems of music teacher education in the Czech Republ ic and Austria

The objective of the dissertation thesis is to examine selected problems in the education of secondary level music teachers that influence their professional performance, in the context of current social and education policies of the Czech Republic and the Republic of Austria. The specific issues addressed are: career benefit system, professional standards of teachers, ageing of teachers' population, social and economic status of teachers and feminisation in schools. A comparative analysis of the university curricula for undergraduate music teacher training both in the Czech Republic and the Republic of Austria forms part of the dissertation thesis. The practical research part presents the results of the research questionnaire survey of opinions of the music education university students and graduate teachers on their university training, motivation to be a teacher and depicts their problems at the beginning of their teacher's career. In conclusion, the selected problems of music teacher education are viewed by university teachers and administration workers by means of semi- structured interviews.
Music as a Significant Means for Speech Cultivation in Pre-School Children

This dissertation of an interdisciplinary character involves music education, music psychology, linguistics and special education. In the theoretical part of the thesis the author explains the term timbre from the musicological and linguistic perspective; characterizes timbre hearing as a musical hearing ability; introduces and compares timbre and phonemic hearing tests; describes the development of musicality and speech of pre-school children from an ontogenetic perspective, and emphasizes hearing atten- tion as a prerequisite for their advancement. The author also characterizes disruption of these abilities and describes reeducation therapies that involve elements of music education and mu- sic therapy. A field study described in the practical part of the thesis has a form of fundamental research and experiment. Research participants were 180 pre-school children. A field study is addressing the relationship between speech and musical manifestations of pre-school children with atypi- cal speech development. The aim of the experiment was to search for the most effective com- bination of music and language education with positive influence on both musicality and speech. The dissertation entitled Art-educational contexts of music pedagogy in the innovation of primary education characterizes from the scientific point of view philosophy, psychology, music psychology, neurophysiology, pedagogy and music pedagogy the importance of music education for the development of human personality. It follows the stimuli of the new academic discipline of transdidactics and deducts it to the practical level of primary education, in the focus of which they are strong activating means of musical activity. Through authorial creation and the use of artistic inspirations, it aims at the synergy of musical activities with other aesthetic and educational disciplines, whose cooperation deepens emotional experience and develops a relationship with artistic and ethical values, leading to the discovery of beauty. Children's Musical Creativity in the Context of Pedagogical Creativity

The dissertation entitled Children's Musical Creativity in the Context of Pedagogical Creativity focuses on formal pre-primary music education. A part of this education is the development of children's musical creativity influenced by their teachers. Therefore, this research problem is viewed from a dual perspective; one of pre-school children and the other of pre-primary educators. A theoretical part of this thesis describes children's musical creativity in the music education context o in terms of historical, international, and national development. Similarly, this thesis deals with the research context and presents constructed tests of children's musical creativity. Subsequently, the terms of musical creativity, children's musical creativity, and pedagogical creativity are defined. The children's musical creativity is viewed from the perspective of internal and external influencing factors. Finally, the role of the pre-primary pedagogue and their creative pedagogical work in the development of children's musical creativity is characterized in more detail. Music Education of Primary School Teachers in the context of school reforms

The dissertation introduces the knowledge of the child's ontogenetic development in the early school age and at the beginning of pubescence in connection with a musical development. It also deals with the emotional importance of music in the child's personal development. The following part is devoted to music education at primary schools, their aims, historical context and the current position of music education in the Czech curriculum together with foreign influences. The third chapter focuses on the ongoing structure of music education given in the study programmes for the teaching qualification at the national pedagogical faculties in the Czech Republic. The research part scrutinizes the contemporary situation of music education at primary schools from teachers' point of view and with regards to their undergraduate training. The research concentrates on the experience of teachers who have undergone undergraduate training in the last decade. The aim is also to find out how the situation is perceived by university music lecturers who train future teachers. The questionnaire survey and interviews reveal problems in music education at the elementary schools and also in undergraduate training at pedagogical faculties.

The Ph.D. thesis Reflection of the Framework Educational Program for Basic Schools of Art in Czech Elementary Art Education deals with current development of pedagogical reform and its implication in lessons of music theory at basic schools of art. It traces its historic development and changes in educational content, methods and organizational forms of education, according to resources that are at disposal. Based on the research, current pedagogical reform helped to define content and scope of work in lessons of music theory. It enabled to adjust its educational content to specific conditions and profile of individual schools, it gave new view of teaching goals and strengthened teacher's position in creation of strategic school documents. Content based, interpretation skills are complemented with understanding of music core; pupils'values and attitudes are built. Among popular teaching methods feature critical thinking, peer learning and group work, learning through demonstration and actions. The most frequently used progressive method, according to the research, is the simulation method.
