Subsequently, the thesis discusses the current profile of a professional eSport player as well as the process of becoming one. It further delves into the representation of gender and race when talking about the eSports industry. The last part of the thesis deals with the cultural framework of video games and the categorisation of eSports.
Let There Be Light? Impact of Light Pollution on the Environment
Svoboda, Lukáš ; Mihai, Hana (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
Light pollution is one of many types of pollution that threaten our planet. The main reason for its creation is the fact that light pollution is a side effect of industrial civilization. The adverse effects of light pollution can have a serious impact on human health, wildlife and climate. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to define the concept of light pollution, describe means of its measurement and its adverse effects. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with defining what the light pollution is and it describes how it is manifested. Furthermore, possibilities of how light pollution can be measured are discussed. Subsequently, impacts on human health, wildlife, economy, safety, and astronomy are described and discussed. Towards the end, common light sources used for public lighting and their parameters are defined. Lastly, basic practices that help to reduce light pollution are presented with examples of correctly designed luminaires for outdoor lighting. The practical part of the thesis is concerned with quantitative research, whose purpose was to identify the level of awareness of light pollution among the general public. The data were gathered by means of the questionnaire survey.
Design of E-Learning Application for the Course English for IT
Hotový, Tomáš ; Haupt, Jaromír (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to develop an e-learning application that would be used as a supplementary tool for the course English for IT. First, the thesis examines existing applications used for English vocabulary learning along with the consideration of what elements could be derived from them. Next, it focuses on the design and implementation of the application as well as the presentation of technologies used. The thesis also provides the theoretical framework of vocabulary teaching and learning which is followed by an analysis of various vocabulary testing exercises employed in the program. Finally, a guide for students and teachers is developed to assist them with using the application. The result of the thesis is the functional application for the students of the course which will enable them interactive vocabulary learning and preparation for lessons.
A Perpetual Glass Ceiling? The Position of Women in the ICT Sector
Sobina, Anastasiia ; Žouželková Bartošová, Marie (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis is to examine women’s position in the ICT sector. This thesis analyses the low representation of women in the ICT professions and in the ICT companies. It also deals with the hypothesis that females are facing a so-called “glass ceiling” that prevents women and minorities from obtaining upper-level positions, basing on stereotypes and prejudices. The theoretical part of this thesis consists of the following topics: the role of women in the historical development of computers, the list of some of the most outstanding females in the computer science world, the reasons for under-representation of female specialists in the ICT sector, the concept of “glass ceiling” and the description of the current situation in Europe, specifically in the Czech Republic, which is also complemented by the research statistics of the Czechitas organization. The information was collected by studying literature and analysing studies related to the topic. In the empirical part of this thesis, qualitative and quantitative research was conducted. The data were gathered by means of a questionnaire survey and interviews.
Selected Types of DC Circuit Analysis in MATLAB Programming Language
Urbanová, Hedvika ; Haupt, Jaromír (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor thesis deals with methods of a DC circuit analysis. Both universal and special methods are discussed. All methods are theoretically determined. Calculation procedure is explained and advantages and disadvantages of each method are considered. Universal methods are explained by means of a problem identical for each method. Next, MATLAB is introduced as a programming language. Four of the discussed methods are written into the programming language MATLAB 2014a, namely the loop current method, the node voltage method, Kirchhoff’s laws, and the superposition method. The loop current method as well as Kirchhoff’s laws are programmed for two to four loops. The node voltage method is programmed for two to four nodes. The superposition method is programmed only for two loops. A graphical user interface is defined and designed for the program of Kirchhoff’s laws. Finally, the use of the programs by students is considered.
Comparative Analysis of Renewable Energy Sources in the Selected European Countries
Konečný, David ; Borecká, Marcela (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to provide information about renewable sources of energy in Germany and the Czech Republic, mainly from the viewpoint of historical development, energy policy and utilization and potential of these technologies. After summarising the key events and treaties, which have a direct influence on the development of renewable energy, the thesis analyses the energy issue in Germany including its transformation of an energy sector called the Energiewende. The same methodology is used in an analysis of the renewable energy sources in the Czech Republic, including the comparison of the financial support of renewable sources in both countries. The thesis concludes with a chapter about impacts and potential consequences of the German energy transition on the Czech energy sector.
Narrative in Computer Games
Musilová, Monika ; Walek, Agata (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This Bachelor’s thesis deals with an issue of a narrative in computer games. In the introductory chapters, general games specifications, such as rules and genres of the games, are formulated. The main focus is then on linear and interactive forms of the narrative and on the means they are most frequently represented by. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of two selected games, focusing on the narrative means used and on the way they influence the game’s linearity and interactivity. For each game, a storyline scheme is created on whose basis a narrative structure of the game is determined.
Nanostructures and Nanosensors
Křečková, Jitka ; Haupt, Jaromír (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to introduce the application of nanotechnology in sensing devices, provide fundamental information about nanotechnology including the description and the classification of nanostructures, and emphasise the possibility to enhance sensor operation by means of nanotechnology. The thesis also deals with the application of a nanowire as part of a sensor using the configuration of the field-effect transistor. Quantum dots and their application in optical detection, mainly in the field of nanomedicine, are considered in this thesis as well. The last part is focused on the advantages and current restriction of nanosensors.
