Vlčková, Tereza ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with a comparative analysis of comments under articles about sexualized violence on the Czech online news servers iDNES.cz and novinky.cz. The theoretical part describes gender-based violence and sexualized violence and deals with the definition of the act itself as well as definitions of the victims and the perpetrators. Next comes the issue of new media, which enable users to actively participate in the creation of content, and therefore also in writing comments. Subsequently, the phenomenon of online uncivil behaviour, cyberviolence and hate speech is described. This is followed by a related chapter on online gender-based and sexualized violence and an overview of research on this topic. The methodological part describes the chosen methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The following is a description of the profiles of the selected servers iDNES.cz and novinky.cz, as well as the biggest cases of sexualized violence for the year 2021. Viewers of Herbář, TV program popularizing alternative lifestyle
Gajdová, Jana ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Jansa, Petra (referee)
The topic of my thesis is the audience of Herbář, a programme broadcast by Czech Television since 2013, which popularises alternative lifestyles characterised by conscious consumer tactics. These tactics include, for example, certain forms of local food activism based on the ideas of the Slow Food movement, the application of certain DIY practices, the pursuit of partial food self-sufficiency, or an individual's efforts to minimize the negative impact of their actions on the state of the environment. The TV programme Herbář is a lifestyle show that features elements of TV food tourism focused on the countryside and traditions. It is a specific form of eco-reality television, using the emotional identification of the viewer with the presenter, which occurs through the chosen way of moderating the programme, and dramatisation, using images of idealised rural and simple lifestyles. I first introduce the reader to the related themes in order to place my work in a clear context. I will then attempt to answer who the audience of Herbář is, what are the possible audience attitudes towards the programme and related themes, and how these audience attitudes are reflected in the lifestyles of individual viewers. I will attempt to answer these questions through a simultaneous triangulation of qualitative and...
The Economics of Hatred in Reality TV
Brabencová, Lenka ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the formation of hatred towards the participants of the reality TV shows MasterChef Czechia and Married at First Sight. Specifically, the focus is on whether the shows and the participants in them have the potential to evoke this emotion among their viewers. The theoretical part deals with the relationship between television and the Internet environment, where this emotion can be subsequently stirred up within groups on discussion forums or social networks. It also defines the genre of reality TV into which are the TV shows included, and in the end defines hatred and other emotions that are closely related to it. Based on the findings from the literature, the characteristics that can potentially lead to the emotion under discussion are then identified. These traits are central to the subsequent determination of the research questions. In the research part, one particular series at a time (both were broadcast during 2020) is then qualitatively analysed for both TV shows, also there is the portrayal of all their main participants, with a particular focus on finding defined traits with the potential to provoke hatred. The final sub-section of the research section also briefly mentions the response that these particular TV shows had in the social media environment at the...

Internet memes as a tool of popcultural citizenship
Suchý, Marek ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Mňuková, Dominika (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on internet memes as a possible element of political communication. Memes themselves were first investigated by R. Dawkins in the late 1970s. With the rise of the Internet, the concept began to appear under the term 'Internet memes'. The history of the concept of meme, both in its classical and internet form, is included in this thesis, alongside their definitions, as with the concept of political communication, for which I offer different variants of definition. In addition, I also present the Internet homes of memes, i.e. the websites on which Internet memes have developed (and continue to develop) and on which they are disseminated. After introducing the basic categories of memes, I focus on introducing the "Pepe the Frog" meme, as a distinctly unique meme with respect to its history and "life journey", in the context of political communication. Subsequently, I offer other formats of memes, from other categories, that have been used in political communication, but their history is not as deep and significant as Pepe's. There are examples of global memes as well as memes from the Czech Republic. Apart from the internet sources, I have used the book by L. Shifman: Memes in Digital Culture and by Brian McNair: An Introduction to Political Communication and a documentary...
Analysis Of Mahua Moitra's 2020-2021 Speeches in The Lok Sabha
Padole, Priyanka Vishwas ; Shavit, Anna (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
Women in parliament long seem to be limited to addressing only certain topics and issues - mostly those that have a 'female-centric' focus. This perspective has been backed by the idea that being women, they are more empathetic, compassionate, honest and liberal. This gives them a better insight into what females want and they are therefore better equipped to address these issues compared to their male counterparts. It is my perspective that female politicians should be looked at beyond this limited scope and addressed as legislators who represent the voice of all people and not only a specific demographic. Using the grounded theory through an exploratory case study method, this thesis focuses on Mahua Moitra and the speeches she made in the Lok Sabha in 2020- 2021. Through this analysis, the thesis gathers what she has contributed to the developing narrative of female political representation in India. Keywords Mahua Moitra, Speech Analysis, Lok Sabha, Female Political Representation in India, Female MP

Švandová, Dominika ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
Qualitative research thesis explores the topic of online privacy, adding a gender perspective to the existing body of knowledge. Based on a thematic analysis of interviews with fifteen men and fifteen women, it provides insights into the gender specificities of the perception of privacy on Instagram social network. Social networks, privacy and related gender aspects are first discussed from a theoretical perspective. The methodological part then presents the chosen methods for conducting the actual research. Presented in the analytical part, the results of the analysis of the data from the qualitative interviews provide an understanding of which topics women and men perceive as personal and what strategies they adopt to protect and regulate their privacy. Furthermore, they describe how men and women perceive the privacy threats and the audience of their Instagram profiles. Finally, insights into what they themselves claim to influence their attitudes on these topics are also included. Gender specificities were found particularly in relation to sharing photos of oneself and using anonymity as a means of regulating privacy. Men and women also expressed different concerns about breaches of their privacy, among other things, in relation to unwanted surveillance by authorities, which was problematic for women in...

Šotolová, Anna ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the ways in which female viewers perceive the contents of selected Disney fairy tales in connection with gender theory and a feminist perspective. The research itself is based on the theoretical approach of cultural studies, the so-called Birmingham school, which deals with the relationship between media products and their audiences; as well as gender theory and the feminist perspective. The theoretical part is devoted to the definition of key concepts such as gender, gender roles, feminism, fairy tale and its role in shaping children's identity and the approach of cultural studies to the relationship between the media and media audiences. Development of cosmetic advertising in lifestyle magazines from the perspective of diversity
Bäumeltová, Klára ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
The concept of diversity has been a topic of discussion for several years, especially in connection with beauty. More brands are trying to show the widest and most diverse people in their communication and advertising who could identify with their philosophy. Not only the visual side of media content changes, but also verbal communication, which is aimed at the widest possible audience. The aim of the thesis is to find out how diverse advertising content associated with beauty appears in traditional print media, specifically in the lifestyle magazines Harper's Bazaar and Žena a život. Based on multimodal analysis, this qualitative research offers an insight into the development of diversity in cosmetic advertising between years 1994 and 2019. The first part of the diploma thesis is dedicated to theoretical basis of social and media construction of reality, beauty representation in the media and diversity issues. The next part focuses on the interpretation of the methodology of research, followed by the presentation of results of the conducted analysis and their summary. The analysis also reveals key topics that appear in the advertising content of both of these periodicals. The results show that although some shifts in diversity are evident, the print media still show a rather traditional and...
