Projective Architekture in Sociological View

The thesis is about relation of society to its material environment including its cultural product which is architecture. This is the reason why it is using viewpoints of sociology of culture and art. The thesis focuses on the contemporary projective architecture and brings its characteristics having a relation to society. The main starting-point is uncritical nature of projective architecture. This nature is set into the historical development of the architectural styles of the twentieth century. The picture of development of those critical and uncritical phases is assembled with emphasis to their specific relation to society. In the conclusions the detected relation of projective architecture to the society is assembled to this development. It is compared with former stages. The conclusions say that the relation between society and architecture is strengthened, but on the other hand it is individualised and relativized too.

Art Museums: Changes in their Social Function

Art museums still have an essential role, both for the art world and the wider society. This thesis deals mainly with their transformation and challenges they have to face in relation to contemporary society. It focuses on the development of museums, the transformation of values they embody and also on changes in normative expectations in conjunction with them. The paper also discusses the role of museums with increasing emphasis on their educational role, because this role could help museums to succeed in their current efforts to open to the wider audience. Today, these attempts to democratize represent crucial task of art museums. These efforts, however, depend on the concept of aesthetic taste which the paper also deals with. To be successful, it is desirable to view taste as a skill that can be cultivated through education. Since those who influence success in this field are museum professionals, this work deals also with their position within the museums and the art world and the strategies which are used by them. The fundamental shifts in art museums and their responses to the demands of the public occurred as a result of institutional critique that began in the 60's of last century. Life strategies of women in science

The topic of this diploma thesis is the ways of harmonization of harmonization of scientific work and care in the context of the transformation of science. The author aims to describe the transformation of the institutional aspects of scientific work and its'reflection in the biographies of women scientists. At first the author focuses on the insight into the history of science to map participation of women on the scientific inquiry and to describe the transformation of science. Afterwards she moves her focus towards the actual discourse of equal chances for men and women in science, which high lightens contradictory pressures of the standards of scientific work and motherhood that women in science must face. In the main part of the paper the results of a qualitative survey conducted by the author are presented. The author came to a conclusion that even though the gender stereotypes on men's' and women's' role in science and family are still persisting some progress towards the equality of men and women in science has been made. "Becoming a Facebook User": the mystery of (not) leaving

Recently, facebook has become an important communication and intercation medium and social phenomenon. It attracts attention thanks to its broad audience, and it raises questions of safety and privacy, "addiction", identity and self-presentation. The study Becoming a Facebook User (the title is inspired by Howard Becker's article) is focused primarily on the question of (not) leaving - by using qualitative methods that explore "addiction" to facebook. Using methods of ethnographic interviews and interactionist analysis based on Erving Goffman's dramaturgical approach, broadened by the theory of Joshua Meyrowitz, this work shows that to be a facebook user is not a state but a career. An analysis of the individual stages of usership demonstrates the main reason for "addiction" - the "middle region" - i.e. the places where various audiences meet and there are many options for interacting with a large number of people from diverse environments. This text shows that "middle region" provides some advantages as long as there is effective management of the interactional regions that should prevent overloading, i.e. confusion. Mapping of controversy on the amount of brown coal in Doly Nástup Tušimice

Abstract The research utilizes 'actor-network' theory to analyze debates in the media on the socio-technical controversy on the topic of the amount of coal in the Nástup Tušimice mines. Theoretical part describes its own place in the sociological tradition and theoretical presuppositions of actor-network theory. My conclusion is that, the controversy is being developed alongside several lines, which remain relatively autonomous. Empirical part of this study analyzes dynamics of the conflict and the strategies employed by both sides in the argument over seemingly unequivocal fact. The conclusion focuses on questionable areas of ANT; especially on it's application in research of conflicts in public space which is different from its use in sociology of science where ANT originated. Problematic point seems to be utilization of management of transparency, which is employed by the alliance of companies to sustain their version of reality. Emphasis of ANT on observable aspects of controversies seems to be obstacle for fruitful use of ANT, because it probably misses the crucial areas where the controversies are being developed.

Thesis is focused on research into cultural institution. It is not only theoretical; it takes an interest in concrete institution, the former SNKLHU publishing company, in certain historical period of the years 1953-1960. It is based on research into the rules established by the policy of the Communist Party to control economy and society. It points out how one of the most important cultural institutions of the second half of the last century in Czechoslovakia under these rules implemented the job of publishing books. How this institution fulfilled tasks resulting form the cultural politics motivated by the communist ideology and subordinated its management and editorial policy to it.

New Capitalism as a Cause and a Result of Effectivization of Society

Given the breadth of the concept of new capitalism and possible topics that present themselves here, the main objective of this work is especially presentation of new capitalism as reflected in sociological literature and reference to its highly efficient nature. The work is also a reflection on key topics opened by leading theoreticians of contemporary capitalism. Using Weberian sociology, the work seeks to capture the development of capitalism and to grasp new contemporary capitalism. The development of capitalism is described by the development of three important aspects that appear early in modern capitalism which are important during its whole history up to the present. It is the development of the phenomenon of work, consumption and time. For these three phenomena, the presented work deals in particular with their tendency to become increasingly more efficient. Efficiency is part of the rationalization process; the work uses a more suitable term for contemporary Euro-American society - effectivization (efficiency boost of society), due to its ubiquity and topicality, and also due to the fact that current changes are being legitimized under the designation of efficiency. The Coming Crisis of Czech Sociology?

The thesis "The coming crisis of czech sociology?" is talking about the current situation of czech sociology. In the last fifteen years there have been evident efects, which have a negative influnce on position of sociology in czech society. The first effect is the academic crisis (mass growth of university education). The second effect is the crisis of humanities (underrating of humanities). Also, there is an existence of specific developmental problem. These efects have desintegrative consequences on czech sociology, which contens with unprecedented growth of university students. Afterwards, these students are not able to find adequate job position in this field of study. This thesis talks about all these fenomens. In the first part, this thesis describes the enviroment of current state of czech sociology and puts emphasis on the above mentioned topics- problem situation of university education, uncertain position of humanities and complicated development of sociology as a science. The second part describes current situation of czech sociology. This article discusses the sociological work of Edvard Beneš. The second president of Czechoslovakia is seen mainly as politician and diplomat, but the goal of this article is to present less know part of Beneš personality. And that is his sociological work. Beneš always felt like a sociologist, he dealt with various sociological topics mainly in his early career and in the period before the First World War. However, in later years, as president of Czechoslovakia he never forgets to the profession of sociologist. Benes sociology is significant in that it had a direct influence on his political activities. Beneš perceived the sociology like a tool for learning about society and tried to make out of this knowledge was based on his policies. Beneš was a direct successor of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, in sociology and in politics, and he ensured the continuity of thought TGM, it was Beneš benefits. The diploma thesis Public sphere in networked society concerns about the relation of public sphere and cyberspace. Cyberspace is defined as new social institution, which is not embodied Habermasian normative ideal of critical public sphere, but in contrary it constitute new forms of inequalities and new forms of fragmentarization and commercialization. Explored are therefore also theories which critically deal with concept of public sphere and better describe the reality of cyberspace. The expansion of Cyberspace and horizontal communication network also relate with transformation of contentious politics. The thesis provides an overview of historical development of new action repertoire of contention - virtual sit-in. As an embodiment of all these societal shifts, which are seen as an elements of change in power balance, is presented Operation Payback orchestrated by hacktivist group Anonymous.
