"To be a tree where there is no hubbub": Poetics of Solitude in the Works of Ludmila Macešková
Boháčová, Kristýna ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Vojtěch, Daniel (referee)
The thesis follows the line of solitude in the poetry of Jan Kameník (which is the pen name of Ludmila Macešková). It notices the impossibility of classifying him into the literary groups active from 40's to 60's. It also observes his dramatic way which was motivated by desire to find the expression for his spiritual experience. First, the thesis focuses on places which illustrate the phases during the way. Then it centres on the poetic language which moves to the boundaries of communicability. Last, it comes to the touch like specific revelation of name where all differences are overcame.
Animal models of sporadic form of Alzheimer's disease
Popelíková, Anna ; Stuchlík, Aleš (advisor) ; Telenský, Petr (referee)
Alzheimer's disease is a severe illness affecting the elderly and its incidence increases markedly every year. To date, there is no effective treatment for this condition available, and the precise mechanism of the pathogenesis remains elusive (apart from the identification of certain genetic mutations as causes in a small percentage of cases). Also, no suitable animal model of this disease has been found so far. This paper provides a summary of non-transgenic models currently in use as well as newly introduced adepts, their characteristics and examples of their use in practice. It covers both rodent models mostly generated by external interventions to the brain tissue homeostasis of the experimental animals, and vertebrate species that have been reported to spontaneously develop Alzheimer's disease-like pathology: the so-called 'natural models'. Thus, this review might provide better orientation in the up-to-date progress of research of this disease.
Tablet magazines - the history, evolution and current position on the czech media market
Horáčková, Anna ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Švelch, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the origin and development of the tablet-only magazines in the Czech Republic. The component of the thesis is the analysis not only of the tablet-only magazines published on the Czech media market in the period between the years 2012 and 2015, but also the publishing houses themselves that are specialised in this modern and unique technological trend. The essential part of the thesis is then the definition of technological aspects connected with the process of creation and distribution of the magazines and restrictions applied from the legislation area. Theoretical perspective on this issue was then tested and examined in the realized questionnaire survey. The smartphone and the tablet users were subjected to questions regarding their device usage for various activities, and also their awareness about the available tablet-only magazine. The usage of these electronical contents, the attitude to the interactivity, the pricing and the tematical specialization in the new potential tablet magazines were then determined. Based on the development of the market segment in foreign countries, on the opinion of the experts and on my own evaluation, the potential development in the Czech Republic is outlined in the closing part of this thesis via describing the advantages...
Individual fitness in Odonata: effect of phenotypic traits
Rohlíková, Barbora ; Černý, Martin (advisor) ; Harabiš, Filip (referee)
My study summarizes current knowledge of the aspects influencing reproductive success of dragonflies (Odonata). As with other organisms, the reproductive success (fitness) differs on the individual level, and it is influenced mainly by factors related to body structures. The body characteristics of individuals dragonflies affect their totally physical performance. The most studied factors include size, pigmentation and fat reserves; the individual performance is influenced also by the weight, fluctuating asymmetry, age etc. Some of these factors apply during larval development. However, the precopulatory phase (epigamic behaviour) is the most explored, since during that, males gain control and defend territory or perform courtship behaviour. At this phase, beside physical capabilities, there are other important factors such as ornamentation (pigmentation) or fluctuating asymmetry; some damselflies have developed various strategies which, at some species (namely within Calopterygidae), may evolve into colourful dimorphism of males. Next, the copulation in dragonflies is very specific, besides usual sperm transfer it often involves removal of sperm of predecessors to ensure paternity. At many species, the copulation is followed by the postcopulatory phase, during which the males secure their...
Onomatopoia in Czech Children's Literature
Bartošová, Helena ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
(in English) Onomatopoeic Expressions in Czech are often connected with a children's literature or child-directed speech. This thesis reflects the function of onomatopoeic interjections from both above mentioned points of view and adds another possible approaches. The thesis theoretically summarizes onomatopoeic interjection findings in Czech linguistic books and articles which refer about them. Furthermore, it depicts the area of sound symbolism, more reflected in the world than in the Czech linguistics, and some of its particular aspects, e.g. its typology and selected grammar phenomena observed in the Czech onomatopoeic expressions. Following chapter presents a basic context of the child language acquisition and brings some explanations of using onomatopoeic expressions in the child-directed speech. The wide meaning of particular Czech expressions from the case study is also presented. We follow correspondences of particular onomatopoeic expressions, received firstly from the study of language acquisition of the Czech child in one-word phase, and secondly from manually collected sample of the Czech children's literature narrowed to the period from 1 to 3 years of age. Changes of meaning, some grammar aspects and contextual manifestations are indicated, together with attached notes to the graphic...
