Stylistic Analysis of Selected Interviews of Miloš Zeman Given to the Media

This thesis introduces an analysis of the selected interviews with the former president of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman. Primarily it examines the stylistic devices and the use of persuasive techniques and stylistic elements within these interviews. The theoretical part introduces concepts such as journalistic style, dialogue, media dialogue, media image, persuasion, argumentation, and media discourse. The empirical section comprises a stylistic analysis of specific interviews. The objective of this thesis is to examine the persuasion within the analyzed texts. Communication of the Spokesman of the President of the Republic Jiří Ovčáček on the social network Twitter during the invasion of Ukraine

The master thesis deals with the political communication of Jiří Ovčáček, the spokesman of President Miloš Zeman, on the social network Twitter. It analyses his communication during the two months, before and after the invasion of Ukraine. It focuses on tweets from the official profile @PREZIDENTmluvci (now @exPRESIDENTCR) in the period from 24th January to 23rd March 2023. It compares communication strategies, examines developments and analyses how they create a construction of reality, especially in the context of "We (The Castle)" vs. "They (citizens)". It also examines the relationship between political communication and new media, with an emphasis on social networks. The theoretical part of the thesis provides an overview of political communication in different time periods and in the context of new media. The methodological part includes research questions, objectives, sample selection and methods of analysis. The analytical part of the thesis examines Jiří Ovčáček's communication as a spokesperson during the two months before and after the invasion of Ukraine. The first part analyses his communication before the invasion and the second part examines the first month of the ongoing invasion. Exceeding the powers of the President of the Czech Republic and its effects within the system of separation of powers

This thesis analyzes the exceeding of selected presidential powers regarding appointments in the Czech Republic. Included in the analysis were the presidential appointment powers set out in the Constitution, including the appointment of professors and rectors. All controversial cases of appointments from 1993 to 2023 involving Václav Havel, Václav Klaus and Miloš Zeman. The aim of this thesis was to determine whether presidents have exceeded their powers of appointment and in what situations they may have done so. Based on detailed research and analysis, key cases that led to overstepping of powers were identified. The results of this thesis provide insights into how presidential appointment powers are interpreted and how theoretical interpretation intersects with the practice of individual presidents. Public Opinion on Performance of President Miloš Zeman - February/March 2023

In its regular survey in February and March 2023 the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on questions about the Miloš Zeman's presidency.\nIn all areas examined, critical evaluations prevailed over positive ones.\nRelatively most favorably, the Czech public rated how he performed the functions entrusted to him by the constitution (40%) and how he was in contact with citizens and knew their problems (39%).\nCzech citizens were the most critical of how the outgoing president took care of the seriousness and dignity of his office (73%) and how he acted as an authority among citizens (71%).\nCompared to 2020, the president's rating worsened in all monitored items.\nCompared to the previous presidents Václav Havel and Václav Klaus in the period at the end of their tenure, citizens rated Miloš Zeman better in that how he was in contact with citizens and knew their problems. For other items, his current assessment sounds more critical.

The degree of respect for the ideal of objectivity in the news of Czech Television and CNN Prima News: the example of media coverage of the functioning of the president's office

This thesis aims to explain the concept of information bias and to demonstrate its concrete manifestations in the main evening newscasts of ČT24 and CNN Prima News. The background material will deal with the profiling of the media image of the functioning of the presidential office of Miloš Zeman. The material will be drawn from the period from May 3, 2020, when the news station CNN Prima News began its broadcast, to the first quarter of 2022. The initial theoretical framework serves as the conceptual part of the thesis, outlining the issues of the phenomenon under investigation, i.e. media bias. This chapter defines the basic concepts, defines the methodological framework, provides a characterization of the media under study, and makes assumptions about the types of bias that the selected media might eventually commit, in the context of knowledge about how the media profiles itself. On the basis of this knowledge, a qualitative semiotic analysis is carried out, focusing on the content, language and visuals of the broadcast reports. As part of the analysis, the thesis also takes into account the profiling of the media image of the presidential office of Miloš Zeman. Direct Presidential Election in the Czech Republic in 2013 and 2018

The aim of the thesis is to present the first two direct presidential elections in the Czech Republic. The first part deals with the position of presidents in particular political systems. It is followed by introducing the way of the presidential elections in the Czech Republic between 1993-2008 and a brief description of the elections in that period. The third part focuses on introducing the direct election itself and its legislative specification. I have described some disputes and situations which preceded introducing the new presidential election. Two main parts of the thesis present the candidates, pre-election debates, campaigns, pre-election surveys and the results of the presidential elections in 2013 and 2018. Further, I have evaluated the impacts of the direct presidential elections. The last part pays particular attention to prospects for the 2023 elections.
The analysis of New Year's and Christmas speeches of the three prezidents of the Czech republic (1994-2021)

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the written form of New Year's and Christmas speeches of the three presidents of the Czech Republic, i.e., Václav Havel (speeches from years 1994- 2003), Václav Klaus (speeches from years 2004-2013) and Miloš Zeman (speeches from years 2013-2021). The thesis will set the speeches in the context of the lives of the presidents, analyze them from a linguistic, semiotic, and content perspective, and will compare them with each other. The thesis will focus on the topics the presidents raise, as well as potential elements of influencing public opinion. In the framework of the analysis, the thesis will consider the response of the media to the speeches. The aim of the thesis is on one hand to determine how the personalities and life experiences of statesmen influence the creation of their speeches, and on the other to contribute to a deeper understanding of the presidential office and to explore its evolution throughout the thirty years of the existence of the independent Czech Republic.
