Skácelíková, Eva ; Chytilová, Julie (advisor) ; Votápková, Jana (referee)
This thesis studies changes in mental health among university students throughout an academic year. Understanding mental health fluctuations and identifying periods of higher prevalence of mental health problems is essential for providing support and implementing prevention programs. The topic of the thesis is also motivated by a great burden mental problems pose both for the individual and society as a whole. We analyzed longitudinal data collected online during the COVID-19 pandemic, covering the period from March 2020 to October 2022 and containing 45 waves of data collection. The dataset is representative of the Czech population. We worked with a sample of 162 students and 200 non-students aged 19 to 26. To estimate mental health, we focused on depression and anxiety symptoms, perceived stress, and happiness. Random effect models were used for the analysis. Findings showed that students report poorer mental health than non-students and women experience poorer mental health than men. Our results imply that mental health fluctuates throughout an academic year and that we may observe different effects for women and men. Baseline period for comparing the results is an academic semester. For students, depression and anxiety symptoms increase for women and decrease for men during the exam period....

Mandíková, Jana ; Vařeková, Jitka (advisor) ; Malá, Michaela (referee)
Title: Quality of life of people with eating disorders Objectives: The main aim of the thesis is to use the EDQOL (Eating Disorders Quality of Life) questionnaire to determine the quality of life of women with eating disorders (ED) compared to the general population and in which areas of life eating disorders cause the greatest difficulties for women. Methods: The theoretical and empirical work examined the quality of life of women with eating disorders (n =100) and women from the general population using the EDQOL questionnaire. The sample of respondents was obtained by the method of available sampling by reaching out to selected groups on social networks. The czech version of the EDQOL questionnaire was distributed using the Survio platform. Results: The results of the EDQOL questionnaire revealed a statistically significant difference in quality of life between women with ED and women from the general population (p < 0,001, d = 2,404). Women with ED scored the average on the overall questionnaire variables (1,87 ∓ 0,49), while women from the general population scored the average (0,68 ∓ 0,50). Within the group of women with ED, the psychological domain (2,91 ∓ 0,48) and the physical and cognitive domain (2,24 ∓ 0,81) were identified as significant. Stibůrková, Kamila ; Harsa, Pavel (advisor) ; Peřinová, Radka (referee)
Title: The Relationship between a Coach and an Athlete Suffering from Eating disorder: Case Studies Objectives: The bachelor thesis aims to evaluate the relationship between a coach and an athlete suffering from an eating disorder. I aim to identify correlations emerging from individual case studies of participants who were coached, while also dealing with an eating disorder. My primary focus is analyzing the coach's behavior and its impact on the athlete within this context, particularly regarding trust and communication. Methods: In my thesis, I decided to do qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews. Then I created 4 case studies describing the stories of sportswomen who suffered from an eating disorder in the past. Results: Research results show that coaching behaviors and interactions can play a key role in the development of eating disorders in athletes. The analysis of the cases of female respondents shows that coaches who show insufficient understanding, inappropriate communication, and pressure to perform can contribute to negative self-evaluation and a decrease in self-confidence in athletes. These are all factors associated with the development of eating disorders. Keywords: eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, coach-athlete relationship, mental health,...
From the Battlefield to Psych Ward. War on Terror and Its Impact on Mental Health of U.S. Soldiers
Miková, Zuzana ; Kozák, Kryštof Přemysl (advisor) ; Smetana, Michal (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the psychological problems of American veterans from the war on terror. This work aimed to find out what mental effects soldiers take away from the conflict and what main reasons led to their creation. The bachelor's thesis briefly describes the context of the war on terror and new methods of combat used in this conflict, as well as the psychological consequences veterans are facing upon returning home. It introduces programs offered by the American government and ministries to assist affected individuals. The result of the research concludes with serious psychological consequences found among veterans of the war on terror, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder. This represents the highest number to date among all conflicts led by the United States. The major issue is the "unrecognized" cost of the war, such as increased rates of alcoholism, violence, or family breakdown. These consequences also negatively impact the wider society. There are several reasons for developing mental health issues from the war on terror, but the main ones include the prolonged duration of the conflict, new methods of combat and technologies, society's gradual shift towards war rejection, and a negative attitude towards veterans. However, it is also important to note that...

Horký, Matouš ; Baláš, Jiří (advisor) ; Turčová, Ivana (referee)
Objective: The aim of the work was to analyze how different types of natural environments affect the physical and mental health of individuals. Methods: 7 students of UK FTVS participated in the research. The participants visited the natural environment (blue area) in Prague's Troja and the laboratory in the UK FTVS building. Current mental states and emotions were monitored using the standardized POMS (Profile of Mood State) questionnaire, which was filled in a total of four times during the visit. Results: From the average results of the POMS questionnaire (on a scale of 0-4, 0= not at all, 4= very much), it was obtained that the degree of anger in the laboratory environment was 0.68 and in the blue environment 0.39. Fatigue level 1.17 in lab and 1.19 in water. Depression values in the laboratory 0.67 and in water 0.54. Confusion was 0.88 in the lab versus 0.55 in the blue environment. Voltage in the lab 1.02 and in the blue environment 0.60. Vitality in the aquatic environment 1.51 and in the laboratory 1.29. The average values of individual POMS dimensions over time were (blue space) after the initial measurement: anger 0.40, fatigue 0.95, depression...
