Czechoslovak Pop as a Tool of Propaganda: A Case Study of the Music Magazine Melodie between 1971 and 1973

This bachelor thesis deals with the significance of popular music as a means of state ideology to strengthen power against the background of the events of the late 1960s and 1970s in Czechoslovakia. Specifically, the normalization period between 1971-1973 is analyzed in the pages of the music monthly Melodie. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the influence of mass media, the criticism of mass culture and the characteristics of popular culture in communist Czechoslovakia. The methodological part defines an analytical strategy to identify white and black propaganda in Melodie magazine. The applied research method is hermeneutic content analysis of media messages. The analytical part focuses on the identification of propaganda elements in selected articles of Melodie magazine. The reflection on music production during the normalization period in Czechoslovakia included a variety of approaches and attitudes towards popular music. In the media messages examined, popular music appears predominantly as a stabilizing element for socialism. This thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of popular music in socialist Czechoslovakia.

The trial of Milada Horáková and Co. and its influence on the Czechoslovak media in 1950

The bachelor's thesis examines the trial of Milada Horáková and associates and its impact on Czechoslovak media in 1950. It explores the political background preceding the trial, the fate of Milada Horáková, and the media environment of the time. The practical part includes research from both contemporary and historical media. Specifically, it utilizes qualitative content analysis of Rudé právo and Nová svoboda from mid-May to mid-June. The goal was to identify main themes, narratives, and propagandistic elements in the headlines, subheadlines, and subtexts of both newspapers. The research revealed how the figures of the trial were presented and how the media approaches of the two newspapers differed. The findings provide deeper insights into media manipulation under the totalitarian regime and the methods used. Additionally, the practical part includes an analysis of Martin Vadas's documentary series "Process H" and an examination of mentions of the series in Czech online media. 81 Political trials of the 1950s - a concrete case study (The Babice Case) Abstract The subject of the thesis "Political Trials of the 1950s - a Specific Case Study", subtitled The Babice Case, was a description of the application of the general tools of political persecution used in the Czechoslovak Republic in the 1950s to the specific case of the shooting at the Babice school and the subsequent political trials. Also significant is the aim of placing the political trials in Czechoslovakia in the context of the times and the international political situation, which played an important role in the Babice case. The first chapter of the thesis formulates the aims of the thesis and the background on which it is based. The second chapter of the thesis describes the significance of the political processes and the general background of their organisation. An important part of Chapter 2 of the thesis is a description of the legal framework for the conduct of political trials, focusing both on substantive aspects, such as the newly defined offences, and on procedural issues, especially the limitations on the rights of the accused. ODA as an actor in the formation of the right and Czech conservatism

The aim of this thesis will be to characterize the formation of Czech conservative and rightwing thinking in political practice, which seemed to be something completely unimaginable in the communist environment of the time. Although the roots of Anglo-Saxon conservatism go back to the 18th century, it is difficult to define it as a modern ideology at this time. Its meaning has evolved and changed over time, but in some ways it could be said that the basic principles of conservatism have survived to this day. In this thesis, I will primarily reflect on values such as freedom, equality, property, tradition and morality because it is these values that the ODA, as the primary actor with which this thesis is primarily concerned, drew upon in a society shaped by communism and the vision of socialism as the only possible path for the emergence of rightwing politics.

Postmodern Philosophy and its Influence in Russia

The first part of this thesis describes the development of philosophy in Russia up to the so- called diamat, that is, to the period of Lenin's philosophy of dialectical materialism. In the second part it is described postmodern issues in contemporary Western thought, including the contexts in historical development. The last part deals first with the general features of Russian postmodern thought. Next part of the last chapter deals in more detail with the thought of M. N. Epstein and his view of the development and state of postmodern thought in Russia. Russian thought was marked by a long isolation from Western thought. In an effort to quickly catch up with the West, features of messianism are emerging. Russia is convinced that the West will quickly catch up and has the potential to overtake the West and become the thought leader of Europe. Said leads to the acceptance of the idea of communism and the subsequent further isolation of Russia. Nevertheless, in 1991 is rapidly coming to terms with postmodern thinking. M. N. Epstein concludes from this that there are identical features in communist ideology with postmodern thought, and therefore it was postmodernism in Russia much earlier than in Europe. The influence of the Second Vatican Council on the Church's attitude to the world. Illustration on the theology of church history in the Czech lands during communism

The dissertation deals with impact of Second Vatican Council in attitude of the Catholic Church to World and it is illustrated in life of the Church in Czech countries in the course of communistic period, because of marginal differances between Church and World. Read the sings of times and aggiornamento are key concepts of Second Vatican Council. Main source are documents of Council and works dedicated to Second Vatican Council, what give us the most comprehensive information. Situation of the Church in the Czech countries from the point of view of systém of government, what effort to eliminate the Church, and response of the Church to it, what impacted reception of Second Vatican Council, and it is illustrated in thematic works and contemporary witness of communist regime. Generaly impact of Second Vatican Council find to reflection directed to situation of the Church and society and the ways, what Church choices for spreading of Gospel. In the Czech countries the Second Vatican Council encourage catholics to be active and take responsibility for civic society.
