Basal Stimulation in Occupation Therapy

Name of thesis: Basal stimulation in occupational therapy Aim: The aim of my thesis is to study the existing literature and find out, if there is any evidence, which can prove the effectivity of basal stimulation. Method: In theoretical part I focus on resources, which evaluate effectivity of basal stimulation. In the practical part I work with two patients. I have obtained the detailed information about patients by observation, consulting the documentation and interviewing with the patients' families. At the Clinic of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine I have worked on the casuistries under the leadership of the therapist Ms. Dvořáková. Result: Based on studying of the literature, I have found that the result of the research is especially the positive attitude of patients, but there is no proof that would confirm the effectivity of basal stimulation. Basal stimulation for people with profound mental disabilities

Title: Basal stimulation for people with profound mental disabilities Objectives: The goal is to track the response and the effects of the methods of basal stimulation for people with profound mental disabilities in a monthly interval. This is a method aimed at improving the perception of the body, the social relations and orientation in the surrounding environment. Methods: I watchedhow strong the response of nine clients with profound intellectual disabilities on the chosen method of basal stimulation, depending on the type and time.This is a qualitative method, which evaluates the best kinds of use of basal stimulation for people with profound mental disabilities. I chose the data collection involved observing the reactions of clients. Before the intervention, I tested the response to two kinds of methods, followed by a monthly intervention when I watched every day and write a response to nine selected persons to the application seven stimulation, which were practiced by therapists after the intervention, I tested the same method as before starting work. The project is carried out in public facilities for clients with annual, weekly, and daily tourist service. Stimulation of physically disabled individuals using dance and its techniques

This thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with individuals with physical disabilities and limitations resulting therefrom, characteristics of selected types of physical disability and dance as a therapeutic method. The practical part consists of the possibility of applying dance techniques for clients with physical disabilities and the possibility of conducting a dance lesson. The following is part of the research that deals with dance as a means of stimulation and its effects on people with physical disabilities. Pavlína Šumníková, Ph.D. The year of presentation: 2013 Abstract: The aim of this thesis was to use and verify basal stimulation in preschool children diagnosed with ADHD. I used simple methods of qualitative research - studying the history data, structured interview method, observation. Using the compiled program is able to demonstrate that the elements of basal stimulation can be used in individuals with ADHD. Basal stimulation is beneficial for them. The results show that helps maintain their calm. During the application of basal stimulation was also improved the perception of these children. The basal stimulation also has a positive effect on their ability to concentrate. However, during the application of the program, I failed to demonstrate that it has the effect on the projected extension of the capabilities. The compiled program, which was conducted on a sample of four probands, exceeded my expectations. Basal stimulation in preterm infants from the perspective of occupational therapist

This thesis is about the parents knowledge about the Basal stimulation concept. In the theoretical part we focus on the preterm infants, the classification and problems associated with immaturity. In following chapters we focus on the Basal stimulation concept and its components. Further we discuss about particular stimulations to use for preterm infants and confirm them with foreign studies. In the end of theoretical part we emphasise the importance of parent education and participation parents in the care of child. In the practical part we focus to achieve the target of this thesis and to confirm or refute the hypotheses. Use of basal stimulation in pre-school education

A dissertation "Use of basal stimulation in preschool education" has the aim to confirm a positive influence of the basal stimulation concept on upbringing and education of children with multiple disabilities in a special kindergarten. A theoretical part gives you a brief characteristic on the topic of multiple disabilities and cerebral palsy (CP). It brings you a view of the development of children with disabilities in the preschool period. A crucial part is dedicated to the basal stimulation concept as well as its basic and superstructural elements and biographical anamnesis. A research project presents the case studies and shows the use of the concept at particular work. It evaluates and confirms the positive influence of stimulation on children and presents a recommendation for pedagogical practice. Full name: Jana Mašindová Supervisor: Mgr. Jana Náhlá Proposal for creation Snoezelen room in a geriatric centre Snoezelen therapy is carried out in a specially adapted room. It is a room equipped with a device that stimulates all human senses. Snoezelen room offers visitors opportunity to experience understanding, interaction and relaxation. Visitors are not forced to do activities; on the contrary, they may apply their own will and practise everything they like and what is enjoyable for them. The Bachelor thesis focuses on the use of Snoezelen room for geriatric clients. There are plenty of workplaces for child clients in the Czech Republic that tend to use Snoezelen room. However, there are only few workplaces dealing with Snoezelen for geriatric population, even though the method is utilized by this clientele abroad pretty often. The theoretical part of this paper summarises the area of Snoezelen and dementi, which abounds in old age quite frequently, as well. This diploma thesis deals with alternative and augmentative communication systems using at the individuals with pervasive development disorders. Thesis is divided the theoretical and the experimental part. Theoretical part contains mainly informations about communication disability, speech development, diagnosis of communication abilities, alternative and augmentative communication systems and possibilities of aid to the families with child with pervasive development disorder. Experimental part presents research using questionnaire, which was send to the parents or legal representatives with child with pervasive development disorder. Eating Habits of People with Multiple Disabilities

This thesis aims at description of basic eating habits of children with multiple disabilities and mapping methods for acquisition of these habits. The thesis then describes the physiological way of eating as well as individual parts of the involved digestive system. The objective is to describe, on the basis of contemporary domestic and world literature, individual learning strategies of most elementary eating habits, like chewing or swallowing, and compare these theoretical knowledge with my practical experiences acquired by working as a personal assistant for children with multiple disabilities in their home and school environment. Special attention is paid to orofacial stimulation in relation to the acquisition of individual eating habits and the possibility of using the concept of basal stimulation to improve their quality. The paper proceeds with alternative ways of nutrition for the persons with multiple disabilities, respectively percutaneous endoscopic gastroscopy and nasogastric tube. The thesis includes three case studies of children with multiple disabilities documenting the way for increasing the quality of lives of people with multiple disabilities by using treatment methods; special attention is paid on the food intake.
Stimulation of severely disabled persons using the therapeutic concept basal stimulation

Thesis should readers familiar with the concept of the basal stimulation and with people with heavy users. The practical part of the work will process the results of the questionnaires in the basic school Sluneční in Hostinném. This investigation will focus on the technical readiness of the respondents to work with the concept of the basal stimulation and on the application of this concept into the educational process, people with severly disabilities. The aim of my work is to introduce the concept of basal stimulation as a very effective therapeutic method applicable to work with people with severly disabilities and to verify this by investigation.
