Ambrosio, Šárka ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
Morální principy v současném šíitském islámu, zvl. Íránu a Iráku Moral Princips In contemporey Shi'a islam (esp. In Iran and Iraq) Šárka Ambrosio In this body of work we look at the moral principles of the Shiite Muslims faith and their reasons for fundamentalism in the second half of the 20th century. The morality of the Shiite faith is a delicate balanced between religion and politics. If the political and the religious institutions do not work in harmony, the typical results are society and economical disruption. Even in a secular state, non-believing citizens who have a basic moral value to live a peaceful co- existences can be disarrayed by conflicts within government and church. What then comes into question is the role the state takes in compliance with certain laws that effect the populous. The answer often defaults to the moral beliefs people have about their understanding of their Creator. There is the claim that morality has no authority. Thus, peoples faith in God and the knowledge of His law ensures a harmony in a social structure. It is no co-incidence that a growing Western pressure in the second half of the 20th century has equated to a growth in Eastern Islam fundamentalist. There is a cause and effect. The solution is not simple but peace can only be founded if the Eastern...

Smejkalová, Julie ; Hříbková, Radka (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Antonín (referee)
The main aim of the Bachelor thesis "An individual on the verge of chaos in Dostoyevsky's novel The Brothers Karamazov" is to analyse an individual in search of one's identity in the chaotic world of the second half in the XIX century Russia. The good and the evil collide in the souls of the characters who feel lost in the world of sudden changes of moral certainties, various philosophical streams and influences which emerge. The introductory part of the thesis is focused on defining the contradictory period of the second half of the XIX century. Following that, the conception of chaos is defined and explored both from the perspective of the external chaos in the world as well as the internal one which in the works of Dostoyevsky manifests itself in the individual's intense suffering leading to a complete degradation of personality. The main part of the thesis concentrates on the analyses of different approaches by which the protagonists of the novel try to reach an internal harmony. The final chapter is dedicated to the youngest of the three brothers, Alexey, in whose faith and the unconditional love for his homeland and everyone around him, Dostoyevsky finds the firm ground for achieving true personal fulfilment and harmony.

Spirituality in the Addiction Treatment
Kárová, Lydie ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Philippová, Lenka (referee)
Spiritualita při léčbě závislosti Spirituality in the Addiction Treatment Lydie Kárová In my work, Spirituality in the Addiction Treatment, I focus on spirituality as a component of personality, which is involved in its formation and development. The work falls into three parts, in the first one I place spirituality into the Czech environment and present its definition, in the second part I look for the role of spirituality in the conception and treatment of addiction and in the third one I present four specific spiritual methods applied in the treatment of addiction. In all parts I work with a spirituality model by Zdeněk Vojtíšek. Seven levels of this model together form a complex component, which is spirituality. The starting concept of the spirituality model is that the individual levels transmit each other, they do not function separately, they can be variously represented and their source can be anything. This confirms an example of addiction that operates on all these levels. I define addiction as a dependent relationship that does not distinguish between forms of addiction, but emphasizes their common features. Spirituality and addiction are complex components of an individual that relate to his/her whole person. In order to change the personality, a safe and stimulating environment is...
Faith and the Search for Identity in the Works of J. D. Salinger
Pospíšilová, Tereza ; Veselá, Pavla (advisor) ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to study four characters in the works of the American Jewish author J.D. Salinger, namely in The Catcher in the Rye, Franny and Zooey, "Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters," "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" and "Teddy." The characters chosen for this thesis are Holden Caulfield, Franny Glass, Seymour Glass and Teddy McArdle. All these characters have found themselves at a critical point in their lives faced with questions about the meaning of life. They search for genuineness and struggle against "phoniness," to use Holden's favourite word, and do not feel content with the values set by the postwar American society. This thesis studies the reasons for their crises, their search for identity, together with its outcomes. It determines what role religion, faith and philosophy play in the process. The socio-cultural context of Salinger's work encourages questions about identity not only as a consequence of the confusion in identity and values brought about by the Second World War but also the tensions caused by the Cold War. Salinger's characters studied in this thesis are intellectuals who search for answers to existential questions in this period of change and as a result of not wanting to belong they alienate themselves from the society. This thesis examines the choice of...
