Kroupová, Eva ; Krahulcová, Beáta (advisor) ; Ondrušová, Jiřina (referee)
This work summarizes the third period of the human life. The changes arising during the period and relationships between elderly and the rest of the family are described. The care about independent old people is divided into two groups: provided by a family member or a professional assistant. The theoretical part is supported by the survey of health and long-term care in European Union. Knowledge and attitudes of a population of ten European countries with significant differences in social and economical markers are compared. The preferred type of the care, financial issues, insufficient care and a prevention of abusive behavior are investigated too. The results of the survey allege that the quality of the care in Czech Republic is satisfactory but still incomparable with standard in countries in Northern or Western Europe.

Volejníčková, Romana ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Kiczková, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis is concerned with twenty-four hours for elderly family members from the perspective of the primary caregiver. The aim of this work is the understanding of home care, not as an isolated activity usually practiced by women in the private sphere, but as an aktivity, which is affected family relationships or deciding provide/not provide home care etc. For this reason I used as the theoretical basis of this work feminist ethics of care, which does not care define "natural" / spontaneous female activity, and enable to reveal the gender line of care. That is the main topic of this thesis. For a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of home care I used biographical interview. It's main characteristic is the emphasis on stories from participants, which was an important aspect that helped me put the care in a broader social context Key words: home care, feminist ethic of care, biographical interviews.

Lengálová, Michaela ; Janečková, Hana (advisor) ; Čížková, Hana (referee)
Caring for a loved one is nothing new in our contemporary society. We deal with the topics of caring in the family, the motivation of such a decision, the positives or negatives of this choice. Why do more and more people choose to care for a loved one "at home"? What is the state support provided to family carers and which social policy instruments does the state use? The aim of the Diakonie ČCE-Care at Home project is to comprehensively support lay family caregivers who take care of their loved ones, not only the elderly, people with disabilities, children with disabilities, but also cancer patients. Through information, counseling and educational activities, we provide family caregivers with the psycho-social and spiritual support they need when caring for their loved ones. Not only do the people receiving care in the home environment have their own needs, but so do family caregivers, whose way of saturating their needs changes the moment they begin caregiving. In general, we are concerned with the needs and their fulfilment of the patients themselves, i.e. those who are dependent on care. But we must not neglect family caregivers, since their physical and mental well-being is a prerequisite for being able to care for their loved ones because they have a very difficult task ahead of them, which...

The submitted dissertation of the PhD study programme Longevity Studies, Faculty of Humanites, Charles University, Prague was completed as a collection of the author's publications concerning the economic aspects of the long-term care in the Czech Republic. It deals with the contemporary problems on financing the inpatient follow-up care (after-care), long-term care, social care and home care. It is relying on the original data collected from the individual establishments during an on-site surveys and is seeking to bridge the gap caused by a lack of economic information on these types of inpatient care - less visible, but the more important. The first articles (as well as the concomitant text) describe the demography of the population in the Czech Republic and the factors with the main influence/impact on these types of care. It's worth to notice that our people spend more than 9 years in chronic disease in comparsion with the developed EU countries. And more - the tendency is deepening. The further articles bring unique results of an extensive cost analysis. The enclosed tables give then the possibility to gain an...
