Zajacová, Marie ; Šmíd, Marek (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
The bachelor thesis will focus on the situation of Greek Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia after the Communist outset in 1948, when the so-called Action P, which was to destroy the Church, occured. It will primarily concentrate on the period after the onset of communism to power, although the plans to the destruction of the Church were ready before the year 1948, and charting their systematic fulfillment after the Communist outset in 1950, when the "Presov Sobor" met. It will become one of the central themes of this thesis and will be set into the context of the then religion-political situation in Czechoslovakia.
Ecological Issues in Czechoslovakia
Hrubeš, Jan ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Valeš, Lukáš (referee) ; Novák, Arnošt (referee)
Práce se zabývá vývojem ekologického hnutí v Československu. Svoji pozornost zaměřuje především k vývoji ekologických iniciativ a ekologického diskurzu v době komunistické nesvobody a v době celospolečenských změn v listopadu 1989 do období rozpadu Občanského fóra v roce 1991.

Press Act no. 81/1966 and its influence on the events of the Prague Spring
Henychová, Eliška ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
Thesis deals with the Press Act no. 81/1966 Coll., on periodical press and other mass media and its influence on the events of the Prague Spring reform in 1968. I wanted to highlight how important role the press act and its legalization of censorship of the press and other mass media played in the process of democratization of the communist regime. Institutionalized censorship became the impetus for sharpening criticism of the ruling Communist Party. After many years when censorship interventions were carried out illegally, it was possible to lawfully defend against this tool of communist managing, controlling and restricting freedom of expression and to demand its abolition. Very strongly the demand for abolition censorship came after IV. congress of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers. Part of the reform-minded senior officials of the Communist Party which supported the democratization of the system, advocated the attainment of freedom of expression, because they knew that a free media can most effectively contribute to the reform ideas with which they identify. Achieving abolition of censorship then really brought into media content quite open criticism of the existing socio situation in the country and also an appeal that it is necessary to reform it. Media created political pressure and acted as...

Štenglová, Marie ; Skalecká, Veronika (advisor) ; Zábrodská, Kristina (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The Analysis of the Palach Week in 1989 in Selected Media" deals with the presentation of (presents) incidents which happened during the Palach Week on from the 15th to the 21st of January 1989 in the official media and their unofficial alternatives. The aim of this work is to clarify, how truthful or misleading was information in the largest media in the context of real historical events in the totalitarian establishment of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The theme is based on an act of Jan Palach in 1969, which has been reminded twenty years later by manifestations of civil initiatives calling for democratization of the regime. The work researches news reports and articles in The Czechoslovak Television, The Czechoslovak Radio, Radio Free Europe, BBC, Voice of America, Prague's Evening newspaper (Večerní Praha) and Lidové noviny. By using the qualitative content and frequency analysis, it compares the information given to the people by the normalization media controlled by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the independent samizdat titles.
The Analysis of Media Messages: the 1989 Palach Week
Vacek, Josef ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Tůma, Oldřich (referee)
The main proposition is that the newspapers which were published by political parties were informing about the events more frequently than other media. This assumption was proved just in part - the newspaper with the biggest number of articles concerning the events was "Rudé právo" published by the communist party, however, the rest of the communist press was lagging behind. One of the findings of this work is that all of the newspapers used media instruments in different proportion. Apart from that, two days of a turning point are identified in all the newspapers in the given period of analysis, both of them were marked with an increase or decrease of the number of articles. The chosen reasearch method is the quantitative analysis supplemented in part by comparison of the results.

Children of 50th years. Family Memory in Families of Political Prisoners
Olšák, Miroslav ; Houda, Přemysl (advisor) ; Doskočil, Zdeněk (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with family memory of 1950s Czechoslovak political prisoners. Its two major questions are: Is there a well preserved story in an actual family memory of a family ancestor who was politically persecuted and imprisoned in the period after 1948 and is his story preserved without significant shifts from reality? Given topic is being analyzed throughout a story of three particular families - those of Bedřich Fučík, Ladislav Jehlička and Karel Procházka. These three political prisoners died already, therefore were the subject of examination records of three generations of their descendents. Primary sources for this thesis are thus personal interviews with these family members. Both archive sources and original texts written byl Bedřich Fučík and Ladislav Jehlička were also used. Individual interviews have shown that a story of their ancestor is well perserved in family memory, but every particular family or narrator have their own specificities. Some narrators have shown major shifts from reality, whereas others have not. Key words political prisoners, 1950s, family memory, communist regime, oral history
Political and educational role of public libraries in the 50 and 60 years in Ostrava region
Nováková, Zuzana ; Večeřová, Petra (advisor) ; Římanová, Radka (referee)
Political and educational role of public libraries in the 50 and 60 years in Ostrava region The thesis is focused on cultural politics of the communist regime in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century in relation to public libraries. Based on archival materials the main attention is paid to the situation in the Ostrava region Cultural policy was aimed in two directions. First through repression, when citizens were banned from access to ideas and works that the regime considered as harmful or objectionable. This activity was implemented by censorship of printed materials, sorting of collections and persecution of opponents. Second way to filling the gaps after undesirable denied authors by pro-regime publications, written in the style of socialist realism. Public libraries were using different sorts of methods how to bring readers to this new literature and how to bring them up to be loyal and conscious builders of socialism - e.g. discussions and reader's conferences, literature contests and polls, Fucik's badge, Month of books and so on. The focus is also on libraries promotion of actions and activities supporting the policy of the Party and the government, such as celebrations of party anniversary, recruitment in mining, atheistic education of readers etc.
