Hodovanec, Mikuláš ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Schlosáriková, Eva (referee)
The aim of this thesis is an analytical view on the domestic policy of the Slovak republic between 1994-1998 in the context of its efforts to integrate in the European Union and NATO. The work primarily focuses on description of the undemocratic actions presented by the governmental coalition, which led Slovakia to disqualification from the integration process and caused country's international isolation. In the first part thesis deals with the personality of a three-times Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar, his rise to power and most important political events, that preceded the election victory of his party in October 1994. In the second part the work summarizes some of the key moments of his governance with a negative impact on a foreign policy, while the impact itself is assessed in the last part of the work.

Internet Freedom as a Tool of U.S. Foreign Policy in Relation to the Arab Spring
Tělupil, Vojtěch ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Rezek, Tomáš (referee)
Abstract1 Internet Freedom as a Tool of U. S. Foreign Policy in Relation to the Arab Spring analyzes political speeches of Hillary Clinton concerning "Internet Freedom" policy. I try to find out if there is some evidence supporting criticism about this issue using Critical Diskourse Analysis. As a result of this I have discovered that Clinton's approach is very weak primarily in transparency and regulation issues. I claim that the purpose of "Internet Freedom" is not to break the balance of power in the Middle East and cannot be seen as an extension of the traditional human rights. Keywords Internet freedom, U. S. foreign policy, Arab spring, Critical Discourse Analysis, political speech, H. Clinton 1 TĚLUPIL, Vojtěch. High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy after the Lisbon Treaty: a single voice of Europe as a global player?
Matoušek, Ondřej ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to examine the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on the European Union foreign policy in terms of the EU's institutional architecture. It explores how the Lisbon reform responds to the previous weaknesses of the EU foreign policy mechanisms and what is its potential for the future of this special dimension of the European integration. The paper studies the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on three main areas - coherence, effectiveness and visibility of the EU foreign policy. It concludes that the innovations introduced by the reform treaty, led by the enhanced function of the High Representative, are correctly aiming at the previous causes of incoherence. At the same time, however, they produce a risk of new inter- institutional conflicts. Effectiveness remains a problematic issue. The external action is limited by the rigid decision-making process. Although the High Representative is not a single voice of the Union on the international scene, the Lisbon Treaty significantly improves the representation of the EU. However, this may be counter-productive in case of incoherent and inefficient foreign policy formulation process. Since many provisions of the treaty related to foreign policy are vague, the question remains whether the Member States will decide to take advantage of its...

Bednář, Martin ; Koubek, Jiří (advisor) ; Polášek, Martin (referee)
Annotation: In my Bachelor thesis I compare the roles of Presidents in the political systems of the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. Despite that fact that all these neighbouring states are culturally linked and all account for parliamentary regimes, the heads of states in these countries carry out their functions in very different manners. The position of the Presidents are in my thesis examined with the help of the Tsebelis's theory of vetoplayers. The aim is to look into the fields of personal policy, foreign policy and legislative process and to ascertain, through the analysis of political and constitutional works, the exact role of the Presidents in these areas. Key words: president, head of state, The Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, constitutional competences, constitutional practice, personal policy, foreign policy, legislative process
"Special relationship" between Quebec and France in the 1950s and 1960s
Onderková, Kristýna ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
Canadian francophone province Quebec is tied to the French Republic not only thanks to their common history and language but also because of a very specific long-term international and political cooperation both within the Francophonie and beyond it. This bachelor thesis "Special relationship" between Quebec and France in 1950s and 1960s tries to prove that there really existed a "special relationship" between France and Quebec in the 1950s and 1960s which is in many ways similar to the "special relationship" between the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The period is specific due to the coincidence of two important events: the victory of Jean Lesage's Liberals that started the Quiet Revolution in Quebec on one hand and the French presidency of General Charles de Gaulle, the biggest defender of good relations between France and Quebec on the other hand. Based on careful research of their political, diplomatic, cultural and economic relations during this special period, the thesis analyses to what extent the "special relationship" strengthened Quebec's self-confidence, supported the promotion of Quebec's interests within Canada, helped Quebec in its struggle for being recognized by much more countries and directed this province towards fighting...

Instruments of foreign policy of small states - Taiwan's economic and public diplomacy
Průchová, Kristýna ; Fürst, Rudolf (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
Taiwan is still in partial diplomatic isolation. As a small country with a limited share in world affairs is not only limited by his specific requirements, but also to the instruments that are entitled to use. The only way to escape from this situation means expanding the number of diplomatic allies and efforts for integration into international structures. Recommended tools for small state foreign policy used to achieve its objectives, primarily by soft power. Based on the classification of Taiwan as a small state, the recommended instruments are of public and economic diplomacy. They act through creating a positive image of the country abroad and various forms of foreign assistance. Taiwan needs to gather as much support from the general public in different countries. A strong motivation for him is his effort to build its own space and fixed position for national survival and growth in China's shadow. By defining each of the central concepts, integrating Taiwan into the actual facts and the application of selected instruments for Taiwan's foreign policy terms there is built a connection between the small states issue and areas of economic and public diplomacy as soft power tools of Taiwan's foreign policy.
