Sustainable development in multinational companies

The main objective of this thesis is an evaluation of activities in multinational companies which lead to sustainable development. Furthermore, an analysis which aims to find out if these activities contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) drawn up and approved by all member states of the United Nations in 2015. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces history starting with the industrial revolution and present situation in a globalized world. It explains specifics of apparel industry and sport apparel industry. It also presents individual SDGs, their meaning and the importance of all subjects being involved in their achieving, including private companies. The thesis evaluates how the three biggest multinational companies from sports apparel industry perceive the topic of sustainable development. These are adidas AG, NIKE, Inc. and Puma SE. In the analytical part, it evaluates their current and planned practices contributing to sustainable development, it compares them with the topics of SDGs and proposes measures that would help to successfully achieve them. The analysis shows that these three companies have already been engaging in the topic of sustainability. They take the SDGs into account but do not fully implement them in their business models yet. The company which has the most activities connected to sustainable development is adidas. Most of the activities these companies have are connected to the following goals: Responsible consumption and production, Clean water and sanitation and Partnership for the goals. There are several specific areas in the sports apparel industry that could be greatly improved. They are presented at the end of the thesis.
History of "Bedřich Reich" textile factory in Česká Skalice

This thesis describes a history of Bedřich Reich's mechanical weaving - which was established on the turn of 19th and 20th century in Česká Skalice, a textile region in East Bohemia, by his father Karel Reich. From the historical sources of East Bohemia's archive are in the work mentioned technical proposals related to the factory construction, financial statistics and documents relating to the production of textile. In a separate section is presented the story of a Jewish family of Bedřich Reich, describing an idyllic life between two wars, however, at the time of the protectorate tragically touched by factory aryanization and transport to Terezín and Auschwitz. The main period occurs after the war, when the daughter of Bedřich Reich, Eva, returned as the only one home to Česká Skalice. In years 1945-1989, the factory became part of the national corporation Lina Jaroměř and later Mileta Hořice. The final part covers the beginning of the 90s, when the factory was returned in restitution to the descendants of Mrs. Reichová - Zelená.
The impact of Sustainable Fashion on the Marketing Communication of Czech fashion Brands

The bachelor thesis deals with the principles of sustainable fashion and related marketing techniques, to which fashion brands often resort. This issue is explored by the author in the context of the Czech fashion scene, using in-depth interviews with representatives of Czech fashion brands. The topic is first introduced from a theoretical point of view, where the term "sustainable fashion" is explained to the reader and he gets more familiar with the individual lifecycle phases of a fashion product. Then, the negative aspects of the fashion industry and their solutions using the principles of sustainable fashion are analysed into more depth. This is followed by introducing the reader to the marketing techniques related to the sustainability. The theoretical part serves as a groundwork for own research, in which the author sets the target of mapping the situation regarding the sustainable fashion on the Czech market and compare individual fashion brands with each other. The qualitative form of questioning using in-depth interviews with the representatives of eleven Czech fashion brands was chosen as the research method. The aim of the thesis is to enable the reader a deeper insight into the area of sustainable fashion and to use research to map this issue on the Czech fashion scene.
Implementation of the innovation processes to textile industry business in the Czech republic

In the first part of the thesis, concepts of the textile industry, enterprise and its features for successful operation on the domestic and international markets with strong competition at the present time are defined, including a description of innovations and innovations with regard to the textile industry. This theoretical basis is gradual preparation for understanding any issues related to the practical part which focuses on particular enterprise and a specific technical innovation implemented in the enterprise. The second part of the thesis introduces MICROTEX a.s. which is a traditional manufacturing enterprise focused on the production of piled upholstery fabrics. The thesis takes into account that the company would like to implement new weaving looms for a new type of fabric and width, which is the current innovation goal of the company. Therefore, the thesis is aimed at choosing the best machine out of two options from different foreign suppliers based on the conceptions and requirements of the shareholders of Microtex a.s. This innovation will definitely result in a competitive advantage of the company by expanding its product portfolio as well as other benefits both in the company and in its external environment. The external environment means a municipality where the enterprise resides. The analysis of connection between the company and municipality is based on qualitative interviews with the shareholders and employees (simultaneously inhabitants) of the company and with the mayor as well as on studying documents and files provided by the company and the municipality.

Article for the conference of PhD students at Faculty of Architecture is dedicated to the topic of industrial heritage with a focus on the former woolen textile factory site. It describes the circumstances of formation and development of textile industry in Moravia and in the city of Brno itself. It focus on both of the factories established on this site and on their development till the closure of production and their current condition. It also deal with the aspects, which determinate the possibilities of its future development in connection with the city, and the approach of local authorities, public and specialists to its future use.
Reuse of treated wastewater in paper and textile industry

This thesis deals with Advanced oxidation processes (AOP) and its aplication for textile wastewaters treatment and reuse. AOP is a modern technology which currently recieves increased attention due to it´s high efficiency in removing resistant and hardly-degradable pollution. Thesis consists of search and practical part. Search part is created by three chapters. First chapter describe briefly wastewater reuse. The second chapter deals with Advanced oxidation processes. AOP principle, AOP division and descriotion is included with the strong focus on the ozonation technology. The third chapter presents the textile industry and its wastewaters. The practical part of this thesis consists of two chapters. Chapter 5 describes testing of textile wastewaters decoloration by ozonation in the selected textile copany and its results. This results are used in chapter 6. Chapter 6 is the study of textile industry treatment and reuse in the selected textile company. This study contains the design of two options for wastewater treatment and reuse in the textile processes.
MOSILANA FACTORY BRNO

Subject of master thesis is urban nad architecture study of former textile factory area and land along the street Křenová. The main theme of the solution is integration and rehabilitation of the contemporary building into organism of the city and susceptible addition of new masses which is based on the principles of compact city. Emphasis is also put on increasing throughput and quality of public spaces, which is missing nowadays. In detail I am focused on new buildings – the residential house on the green parking platform, row houses along the river Ponávka and alternative conversion of fomer Dye House into Mother Center. The aim is to propose some alternative to currently inappropriate land use and invention based on the Regional Plan.
Museum of Industrial Heritage in the Site of Old Textil Factory

The factory premises of the former factory OP Prostějov is the challenge for the future generations how to appraise today unused buildings which were build in 1950's. My design is counting with formation of new part of town, which disposes with centralizing the town-hall administration in one place allowing simple moving between individual authorities. Next there is designed the habitation as the small flats for old people and also big flats with interesting view. In some buildings there is designed the business incubator and in other building there is even the school. There are all facilities, services and leisure activities provided in the area. The Museum of Industrial Heritage is located in the middle of all events. It has three parts - exhibition, auditorium and deposit with administration. The old heating plant nearby is used as library and médiatheque with archives in connection with the museum. Shops, restaurants and other services are placed around.
The development of the textile industry in Nachod in the years 1880-1914

The Bachelor thesis deals with the development of the textile industry in Nachod in the years 1880-1914. The aim of the study was to describe this development of the textile industry and confirm the hypothesis, that the textile industry was the main driving force of industrialization and modernization of the region. The theoretical part introduces late 19th century economics theories and it also outlines the business opportunities in the Czech lands at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The analytical part of the thesis describes the development of the textile industry in Nachod in the years 1880 1914 as well as it focuses on the business of Barton family. The thesis gives answers to following questions: how did the transition to a factory production go in Nachod, to what extend was the textile industry involved in the growth of the town, what position in a day-to-day life of the town did the working class occupy and what development was registered in the textile industry at the beginning of the 20th century. The result of the study is confirmation of the hypothesis.

Consequent focus is around today's trend of fast fashion being seen as the synonym for affordable and low-cost apparel. Vigorous supply chain analysis delivers valid arguments about negative social and environmental impact on our society as a result of recent fashion trends. Considering all above highlighted issues along with increasingly important sustainability, the theses is trying to outline a future prospect of the industry.
