Notions of Sexuality and Gender Identity in the Marvel Company Production
HORVÁTH, Roman
The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of forms of sexuality and gender identity in the production of the Marvel company and focuses on comics. It examines the representation of sexuality and gender identity in comics. The stereotyping of the depiction of female heroines is also analysed and focuses on the representation of masculinity, femininity and queer signs. At the same time, it seeks to analyse gender stereotypes in the construction of female heroines using the psychoanalytic concept of male gaze. The development of these topics is also interspersed with socio-cultural context. The aim is also to view and analyse the possible impact of emancipation movements and historical events to comic book creation. The work can be split into two parts, of which the first theoretical part contains chapters focusing on the theory of comics from the comic book theorist Scott McCloud. It also focuses on the formal elements of comics supplemented by the theory of Martin Foret. The following parts are devoted to the methodology of comics, based on the theory of Michal Uhl. In the following chapters, there are topics such as the corporeality of the heroes and their representations, the history of Marvel and issues of gender, identity and sexuality. The next part is already devoted to the analysis of comics, which by its nature is rather a compilation of partial texts. The analytical texts focus on Captain America, Black Widow, X-Men and Mutants in the overall context and a group of Young Avengers heroes, which explore themes such as the interconnectedness of propaganda and embodiment, feminism and emancipation of female heroines, queer themes as a metaphor for mutantism and stereotypical representation of gay heroes.

Neobaroque as the instrument of the aristocratic representation in South Bohemia
SKOŘEPOVÁ, Eva
The diploma thesis entitled The Neo-Baroque as a Tool of Aristocratic Representation in South Bohemia is based on a bachelor's thesis written by the same author, Eva Skořepová. The subject of the bachelor's thesis was the construction history of the Castle in Chlum u Třeboně, focusing on its Neo-Baroque reconstruction and contextualizing the Neo-Baroque style within historicist styles. The author has followed up her research in the present thesis which highlights three Neo-Baroque South Bohemian buildings whose construction was initiated by members of nobility. The buildings include the Castle in Chlum u Třeboně whose Neo-Baroque reconstruction was commissioned by Archduke Franz Ferdinand d´Este, Hardtmuth Family Residence in České Budějovice, built by Franz and Anna von Hardtmuth, and Berchtold Family Tomb in Neznašov, close to Týn nad Vltavou, commissioned by Juliana Schnöblingová, née Berchtoldová. The author conducted detailed research of the nobility who commissioned the buildings, the history of the locations and construction history of the buildings, pointing out connections which might have influenced the choice of the Neo-Baroque style. At the times of stylistic fragmentation, the Neo-Baroque style had both aesthetic qualities and political and ideological hidden meanings. The author examines the meanings and considers the advent of historicist styles in relation to the architectural development in the 19th century. The author also reflects the contemporary view of the Baroque that influenced the acceptance of Neo-Baroque forms within historicist styles. Another essential factor considered in the thesis is the concept of Austrian national style based on the Neo-Baroque, as it was coined and advocated by Albert Ilg. The final part of the thesis seeks to find answers to the key question: "Why the Neo-Baroque?".

Rámišová, Šárka ; Waic, Marek (advisor) ; Kolář, František (referee) ; Strachová, Milena (referee)
The main goal of this dissertation is to compare the influence of international politic relations on foreign sports relations and to examine the conditions of national volleyball teams' trips abroad during the period of the so-called state socialism. During this period, the world was divided due to the Cold War and Czechoslovakia came under the Soviet influence. The period of unification of physical education and legislation that influenced the functioning of sports and physical education units, including organized volleyball, is an important milestone of the work. The focus is on the activities of the CSTV, the instructions and recommendations it issued and which athletes had to follow when travelling abroad. At the same time, it is necessary to highlight the activities of the International Volleyball Federation, which was founded by the Czechoslovak Volleyball and Basketball Association. The key point is its expansion and influence on the development of global volleyball rules, which were partly formed by its members, who significantly changed the style of the game. The question is therefore whether the travel opportunities of our athletes abroad for international, friendly or exhibition matches, or even for key events such as the World Championships, European Championships or Olympic Games, have...

Valtonen, Veronika ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Houška, Jan (referee)
The work deals with the analysis of the representation of death in computer games, specifically in the case of The Last of Us II, a survival horror genre. The analysis notices the differences in the representation of death in games compared to real life, where games significantly downplay the subject of death, and at the same time death is the main game mechanics that rewards the player as a successful killer. Games can stereotype death in a harmful way, but the studied game is specific in that it does not contain these common stereotypes. The work analyses main and secondary characters in order to find out how they die and how their deaths differ from each other. Protagonists and antagonists are also point of interest, as their death is different therefore an appropriate subject to examine what the game is trying to convey. These differences will be further analysed in the work in the context of game mechanics and audio-visual representation. Narrative is the main aspect representing death in the game. The consequences of death are also part of the narrative, and the work will focus on the aspects of burial and mourning. To achieve the findings within the representation of death in the game world, the work will analyse characters perception of the death, specifically through their dialogues or...

It will be also explained why the unequal distribution of the unpaid labor of the family is a major obstacle for women to gain equality in politics. It will be described what types of quotas are actually applied, what are the effects of gender quotas in terms of numbers as well as the empowerment of women and under what conditions are women politicians able to make use of their positions as elected politicians. Attention will be paid to some years of experience with the implementation of quotas in Africa, whether the inclusion of women in politics furthers democratization and interests of women. South Africa will be showed as a country in which gender quotas are applied with success. In contrast negative effects of quotas in certain political system and context will be pointed out.
