Czechoslovak Immigrants in France, 1918-1940. The Mother Land's Attitude to the Expatriates.
Preradová, Jarmila ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Janoušek, Petr (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is the analysis of attention paid and care given by Czechoslovakia to its compatriots in France during the time period between World Wars 1 and 2. First four chapters are dedicated to the background of later research into the subject. These chapters gradually outline the situation concerning Czech and Slovak emigrants in France, the structure and development of Czechoslovak compatriot associations in France, summary of Czechoslovak government institutions as well as private organizations providing care for Czechoslovak compatriots abroad, followed by an outline of emigrant congresses where the migrants presented their needs and the associated effort to raise awareness about the lives of emigrants in their homeland. Principal merit of this thesis is in its actual research into the attitude of Czechoslovakia towards its compatriots from social, cultural and religious viewpoints, partially even from the economic standpoint but this sector is mostly interwoven into other chapters. The present author reached the conclusion that despite a substantial number of organizations engaged in this matter, care for compatriots provided by Czechoslovakia was inadequate in its entirety, both in the sphere of financial, material or spiritual support and in terms of relatively weak...
Tracing the history of synanthropic flora and vegetation in the Czech Republic
Pokorná, Adéla ; Novák, Jan (advisor) ; Lososová, Zdeňka (referee) ; Mercuri, Anna Maria (referee)
1 Abstract Plant macro remains from archaeological situations were studied in order to trace the history of gradual formation of today's synanthropic vegetation. Synanthropic plants represent a heterogeneous group of species with various qualities and strategies, as well as with various immigration histories. In general, the synanthropic flora is rich in aliens, so it is important to know, when exactly these species immigrated to our territory (to know their residence time). Besides the determination of the residence time of alien plants, also the dynamics of formation of urban flora and vegetation was studied. Special attention was paid to the Medieval Period, when the urbanisation process started. The emergence of urban agglomeration may have been the cause of the emergence of new habitats, followed by formation of new plant associations - the predecessors of the today's ones. In general, towns represent a special case of anthropogenic environment with many various synanthropic habitats, causing their species richness. Questions 1. When exactly the synanthropic flora of medieval towns emerged? Was the transition from the Prehistory to the Medieval Period rather gradual or sudden? 2. What particular species took place in the medieval change of synanthropic vegetation? Where did these species come from? Was...
Agenda Setting in the Issue of Refugeedom: Analysis of Connection Between Media Exposure and Perceived salience of the Issue
Michalová, Lea ; Remr, Jiří (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis concerns itself with the analysis of connection between the media exposure to refugeedom topics and the perceived salience of the issue. Combined qualitative and quantitative research designs ruled by QUAN → qual scheme are used in the thesis. In the quantitative part the effect of exposure to refugeedom-related news on the perceived salience of the subject is constructed using TV and newspaper viewing figures while controlling socio- demographic characteristics of respondents. Binary logistic regression was used to find the influence. The analysis shows that the exposure to content concerning immigration and refugees has influenced the rated importance of the issue. However, there are other variables not included in the model which are affecting the salience. The qualitative approach offers insights into the relationship discovered with quantitative methods. In-depth interviews showed people are aware of the media influence mainly regarding topics they are thinking about and discussing with their social surroundings. According to some interviewees this influence is stronger observed in topics where we lack personal experience, like the refugees. Apart from the media other issues like value orientation, life experience, social surroundings or the extent of criticism may have...
The migration policy of the Red-Green government in the years 1998 - 2005
Havlíčková, Blanka ; Dimitrov, Michal (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
The purpose of the bachelor thesis The migration policy of the Red-Green government in the years 1998-2005 is to investigate the degree to which the implementation of immigration and integration policies was successful during the two terms of the government administration of G. Schröder. By giving the description of the political discussions regarding the citizenship (Staatsangehörigkeitsgesetz) and immigration (Zuwanderungsgesetz) laws, it can be shown that there was no consensus in those topics. This lead to a conflict of the parties in the German federal parliament and a compromise form of these two acts. This thesis has chronological structure and is based on primary and secondary sources. By comparing the coalition agreement of 1998 together with the coalition bills and the actual effective laws, compromises made under the pressure from the opposition parties can be seen. The actual laws do not fully reflect the situation that Germany had become an immigration country which can benefit from being open to immigrants and integrating them into society.
Education towards integration - the case of public libraries
Trnková, Zuzana ; Kopecký, Martin (advisor) ; Froněk, Jan (referee)
Recognizing the actuality of diverse society we live in, my thesis aims to describe the relation between integration of migrants and education. Firstly I am trying to describe the learning from everyday life that occurs in new social context for a newcoming migrant. Based on this notion I evaluate the possibility of intentional education that could ease and support adaptation process. I try to identify core needs and themes that educational activities should comprehend to fulfil the desired form of education. Later I am questioning to which extent is possible to influence an integration process by educational action. Second part of the thesis is dedicated to a European project called Libraries for All which was aimed to promote upgrade of multicultural services in local public libraries. My aim is to present the current trend in librarianship and migrant work within culturally diverse societies.

Development of integration policies in Norway before and after 2011
Dorňáková, Tereza ; Lukešová, Anna (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
This thesis is focused on the development of the Norwegian integration policies from the year 2005 until 2017. The milestone of the researched period is the year 2011 when two terrorist attacks, committed by a Norwegian citizen Anders Behring Breivik, shocked Norwegian society. He pointed his act against the immigrant population living in Norway, and against multiculturalism and the politicians who supported this model. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to find out which changes were made in the field of integration policies during the examined period. Furthermore, the aim is to tell whether the integration policies were tightened or not. The thesis first deals with the development of migration in the Norwegian context, the multicultural approach to immigrants, but it also sums up the development of Norwegian political scene during the examined period. The final part is focused on the research of particular Norwegian integration policies and their development between 2005 and 2017.
