The first chapter defines "media". Then individual media laws are analyzed and from them basic types of media are derived as understood and regulated by current Czech law. Navrátilová, Kristýna ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Bečka, Jan (referee)
The role of the media before and during the Iraq war in 2003 in the United States still resonates topic. Journalists are often criticized for failing to fulfill their roles and violations of journalistic standards. This thesis deals with the balance of articles in two national newspapers, The New York Times and The Washington Post, in the period before the invasion of Iraq, specifically from the August 2002 until the invasion on March 19, 2003. The thesis is a quantitative content analysis of the articles from the front pages of these newspapers. The main hypothesis of the research is that, according to criticism that the media received, there should be more sources supportive of the administration of George W. Bush and almost no opposition. The thesis examines, whether journalists followed the norm of balance of sources, or whether is the criticism justified. The result is, that despite the lack of opposition on the domestic political scene, journalist found the opposition sources abroad. The diploma thesis Media and Politics - Political Parties in Selected Czech Newspapers in the Period Before the Elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Czech Republic in 2013 compares the representation of selected Czech political parties in the content of Czech national serious daily newspapers through quantitative content analysis of news in dailies Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny a Právo. The thesis explores the space which was given to individual political parties in studied newspapers, how often they were mentioned in the news, whether the approach of the parties in the news were balanced, and if the parties were neutrally presented in each daily news. The main aim of this thesis is to determine whether the Czech press is showing signs of political parallelism and whether it is objektive to political parties. The theoretical framework of the thesis is the theory of political parallelism as percieved by Daniel C. Hallin and Paolo Mancini and objectivity of the media as percieved by Jörgen Westerståhl. The research draws on the foreign literature and also draws from research in this area that in the past took place abroad.

Koppitz, Radim ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
The Media Image of the Campaign "Děkujeme, odcházíme" in Selected Czech Daily Press Abstract The aim of the thesis is to analyze an overall image of the "Děkujeme, odcházíme" ("Thank you, we are leaving") campaign in two Czech dailies - Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny. The protest campaign run by medical unions resulted from the fact that doctors in Czech hospitals had not been satisfied both with their salary and working conditions. The unions asked a professional PR agency to manage the campaign, which is why the campaign was in the end much more effective and successful than any of the previous attempts. Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as a method for this research. Content of dailies is being analyzed from several aspects - overall coverage of the topic, its development over time, analysis of how media presented key motives for doctors' wanting to leave the hospitals, analysis of negative aspects of doctors' leaving and their development in time, evaluation of balanced access of conflict's key parties and their actors to the media and also an analysis of preferences of the media articulated via opinion texts. The research covers the period from May 2010, the actual beginning of the campaign, to April 2011, i.e. - just two months after the peak of the campaign. Theoretical part...
Media representation of the "Gorilla" case in slovak and czech media
Midulová, Katarína ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with media representation of Slovak political case "Gorilla" in Slovak and Czech print dailies. The thesis builds upon the theoretical principles of the relationship between politics and media in a given societal system, media framing of political news, and normative aspects of balance in the news. A definition of scandal follows as well as description of fundamental characteristics of promotion in the media of political scandals in particular. The thesis aims at application of this theoretical basis on the aforementioned case and its empirical verification. The empirical research includes source analysis and an evaluation of the source balance. A quantitative content analysis is used for these purposes. The results show an intense media coverage of the case and a major media focus on elite (political) resources as well as a frequent representation of particular political actors at the expense of others (related to the case). The results also demonstrate that media did not reflect the fact, that the authenticity of the Gorila document which was the origin of the case was not officially proven at the time.

Aspects of Optimality and Balance Evaluation of Corporate IS
Neuwirth, Bernard ; Koch, Miloš (advisor)
This doctoral thesis deals with the aspects of evaluation of balance and optimality of corporate information systems. The initiative for this specialization was given by the increasing importance that is being laid on the perception of information systems from the point of view of a business company. More and more resources are being invested in the domain of information systems, but afterwards, it is not always ascertained that the information system is such a system, one could characterize as balanced and optimal for the company today as well as in the future. Often this is because there does not exist for the company an available and easily applicable methodic how to evaluate the system. As one of the main starting points of this doctoral thesis I have chosen the methodic HOS8 that was published 5 years ago on our faculty. The newly proposed methodic HOS2009 is trying to clear up the weak points of the original HOS8 methodic that were discovered during its practical use. This is done mainly by using the information feedback from the applicants of the methodic. Within the scope of this thesis the factors influencing the level of the particular areas of the system and the influence of these areas on its general balance are being examined. With regard to the evaluation of the balance and optimality of the information system, in this thesis the problematic of determination of a balanced and optimal state of information system for a company nowadays as well in the future are being examined. As a part of the methods output the thesis presents also charts representing the general state of the system, the imbalance of the particular parts of the IS and the relationship between the areas of hardware and software. Based on the evaluation of the current state and its comparison to the balanced optimal state for the present day as well for the future, the new possible directions and strategies of further development of the IS in the company are being proposed. I see the best exploitation of the methodic HOS2009 in the company in the support of managerial decisions with impact on: the discovery of potentially problems within the scope of IS of the company, the design of a possible course of development useful for their solution, but also the usage of the methodic as a simple control mechanism.
