Algorithmization of social media and its effects on online media

The thesis Algorithmization of social media and it's effects on online news consumption examines the transition of social networking sites from chonological display of posts to automatized system of relevance assignment. This assesment is realized through algorithmic filters, which uses predefined criteria and processes to assign relevance to individual posts. Main goal of this thisis is to define compare a theoretical model of mechanized selection with traditional editorial model, together with user understanding of Facebook algoritmization. The thesis combines a theoretical part, which presents the specifics of both models, with qualitative research with aims of the conceptualization of user's understanding of the algoritmized nature of Facebook. The theoretical section also integrates algoritmic filters with the current gatekeeping theory, compares news and algorithmic values and describes the basic biases, which may occur in the two models of information selection. Social Media Marketing with a focus on Tourism

The subject of this Master's thesis is social media and its utilization in tourism marketing. The aim of the thesis is to determine which social media are most useful for tourism marketing and identify effective ways of social media marketing in tourism. The opening chapter deals with the development and current state of the Internet, digital marketing and individual types of social media. The second chapter examines the influence of social media on travelers and trends in social media marketing. The next chapter contains analysis and evaluation a survey among users of social networking sites. The last chapter is dedicated to analysis and comparison of marketing activities of two competitive tour operators on social media. The main findings of the thesis are summarized in its conclusion.
Life without Facebook: Experimental study of non-using the social networking site Facebook

The diploma thesis Life without Facebook: Experimental study of non-using the social networking site Facebook focuses on non-usage of social networking sites and reflection of the disconnection from it. It aims to map functions that Facebook performs in indiviual and social life of a man, ideas about life without it and the experience of disconnection that was induced under the terms of one week experiment. The aim of the study is to outline what life without Facebook is like, point out possible advantages and disadvantages of it and describe what a person disconnected from social networking site can face both within him or herself and its social surroundings. This diploma thesis aims to contribute to understanding the importace of Facebook in our society as well as offer some paths to reflect its use. Communication ov Czech Television on social networks

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the communication of Czech Television on social networks. Its goal is to analyse how public media communicate via social networks using the analysis of Czech Television as an example. The theoretical part deals with the definition and introduction of social networks with the focus on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. It also contains an overview of the most popular social networks and places them in context of social media. The method used in this thesis is a quantitative and qualitative analysis of all content, that was published on the main profiles of Czech Television, channel ČT24 and the Hyde Park Civilizace programme on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ between the 21st of March 2016 and the 3rd of April 2016. The analysis is completed by an overall interpretation of the gained data using responses to carefully chosen research questions.
Information spread in online communities: Example of the Czech foodie community

This master's diploma thesis focuses on the dissemination of information in the context of the Czech community of so-called foodies (people who like good food and are constantly looking for new experiences in this field). The theoretical part outlines the development of online communities environments, from web forums to social media. It also examines the possibility of applying Katz and Lazarsfeld's model of the two-step flow of communication in the online environment. We also explain the features of online food communication and present widespread social media foodie platforms, including the Czech app Scuk. The research part of the thesis uses the social network analysis method to identify opinion leaders of this online community in the environment of Twitter, Instagram and Scuk and examines how the information spread and the form of this community changes with regards to the particular online environment in question. The thesis also includes qualitative research on the impact of the online information spread on the offline environment - more specifically, on sales, visit rate and reputation of selected Prague restaurants.
Differences in use of social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter) by magazines Respekt and Reflex

The phenomenon of social networking sites certainly influences the way traditional media functions. It has become imparative for any periodical to also have a Facebook page or a Twitter account. This bachelor thesis addresses the differences in use of social networking sites Facebook and Twitter in the newsrooms of two leading Czech weekly magazines - Respekt and Reflex. In the theoretical section, there are described positives and negatives of the current role of social networking sites in journalism. This part also contains characterisation of the process of adaptation to new trends in the field of online journalism. Moreover, it puts great emphasis on building of reader's community and also on a phenomenon of so-called brand journalism. The theoretical section also closely introduces social networking sites used by newsrooms of researched weekly magazines. The practical part consists of the author's own research analyzing Respekt and Reflex's posts on Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. These posts were gathered during one month, specifically during October 2016. Findings of the research are developed into complexly described graphs followed by general comparison of usage of social networking sites by mentioned weekly magazines.
Ability to self-regulate social networking sites usage and its relationship to feelings of loneliness and life satisfaction

This master thesis is in theoretical part focusing on the term of self-regulation according to Albert Bandura's theory (1991) and its domains of self-monitoring, self-judgement and self-reaction. Next we define its stand against terms such as addiction and habit, in case of low ability of one's regulation. Thanks to analysis of mainly foreign resources we oriented the work to explanation of relationship between self-regulation and loneliness and life satisfaction. These resources are chosen for their historical consistency and contemporary application, especially in domains of media and online environment. In empirical segment of thesis we are proposing our own questionnaire measuring our ability to self-regulate Facebook usage (SRQ-FB), inspired by original theory of Brown et al. (1999) and Czech translation of their questionnaire, translated and tested by Jakešová et al. (2015). Next we tested hypotheses based on assumption of relationship existence between score of our questionnaire (SRQ-FB) and score of loneliness (measured by UCLA Loneliness Scale; Russell et al., 1980) and life satisfaction score (SWLS - Satisfaction With Life Scale; Diener et al., 1984). Self-presentation of czech sportsmen on social networking sites and its usage in mass media

The diploma thesis "Self-presentation of Czech Sportsmen on Social Networking Sites and its Usage in Mass Media" deals with a new phenomenon of the few last years - social networking sites and their usage for the work of sports journalists in particular. The thesis sums up the essential information about history and beginnings of the most important social networking sites. It also outlines the impact on the work of journalists. The core of the thesis is an analysis of the process how the information from social networking sites make their way to the articles in media. This research is based on three major sporting events - the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. It covers the production of two Czech daily newspaper - Mladá fronta DNES and daily Sport, the two printed media which provided the most comprehensive coverage of the Olympics. O pojmu reputation management bylo dlouhou dobu slyšet převážně v oblasti marketingu ve spojení s budováním brandu. S rozvojem sociálních médií se na trhu objevily nástroje měřící osobní reputaci, jež kvantifikují uživatelovu interaktivitu na základě několika proměnných. Ty našly své uplatnění v rukou nepočetných social media profesionálů a geeků. Jak ale k řízení osobní reputace v sociálních sítích přistupují běžní uživatelé? Analysis of the Use of Social Network Sites in Personnel Management

The thesis deals with methods of using social networking sites in personnel management. The social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) and their usable instruments are presented. The attention is focused on the factors that influence their use, such as the labour market situation or the specifics of Generation Y. The possibilities of using social networking sites including benefits and limits of this use are presented in the field of personnel planning, recruitment, selection and development of employees, based on the study of foreign scientific literature. A part of the thesis is a qualitative survey of the use of online social networking sites in personnel management. Methods of using online social networks in the personnel departments of large organizations based in Prague were investigated by using interviews. The common and different features of the use of online social networks in the Czech Republic and abroad arise from the comparison of the results of investigation and findings mentioned in foreign articles.
