Czech Political Satire on Social Networks

This thesis focuses on the topic of Czech political satire on Facebook. It presents an overview of most followed Facebook pages covering the topic and analyses the degree to which their content can be considered a political satire, how the authors use satire and to what impulses they usually react. The theoretical part introduces the concept of satire as a genre and the criteria it should meet in order to be considered as such. Next part of the thesis introduces theories focusing on political satire and their historic development in the Czech Republic. The thesis also presents expert opinions on the question of to what degree can sharing and interacting with political satire content on Facebook be considered as political participation. The analytical part describes the selected Facebook pages in a certain time period and evaluates their content, activity and authorship of its posts. After selecting a representative sample of the pages, three pivotal socio-political events of 2019 were chosen. The thematic focus of the posts and methods the content authors use to achieve satire is analysed for the period these events took place. Political-news satire in The Daily Show

The aim of the Bachelor thesis "Political-news satire in The Daily Show" is to map evolution of political and news satire in TV in United States of America with emphasis to evolution and impact of the cult show The Daily Show, which is airing on Comedy Central channel. It tries to map structure and evolution of the show throughout the whole history of the show. After general introduction to the history of political satire in television before The Daily Show was broadcast, the thesis focuses on the most prominent personalities who worked as a staff of the show and had the biggest impact on formation of content and the message of The Daily Show. Particular attention is paid to the main era of Jon Stewart's role as a host, where the show has experienced a period of the greatest fame and has influenced the future of the political-news satire to the present. However, it also examines the main changes in recent history of the show and the changes brought by the new moderator Trevor Noah. In the last part, the work focuses on the influence that the program and its prominent personalities have had on the current wave of increased interest and popularity of political- satire not only in the United States, but all around the world and examines the most famous figures of contemporary political-news satire.
Saturday Night Live Behind the Curtain

The aim of the Bachelor thesis "Behind the Curtain of Saturday Night Live" is to map general principles that have created an American sketch show Saturday Night Live. The main emphasis is put on creation, structure and protagonists of this television show. Last but not least, the author deals with the big socio-political themes incorporated in the show by its creators. The author proposes three main research questions. Question no. 1: What is the casting procedure for Saturday Night Live? Question no. 2: What is the structure of Saturday Night Live's creative week? Question no. 3: How successful were the individual SNL teams? The author is using qualitative content analysis method. The theoretical part focuses on television entertainment, the role of television in the society and role of television in the USA. The practical part focuses on the creation of Saturday Night Live, the casting process and the overall structure of the show. Additionally, the thesis takes a look on the individual teams, star guests and it also examines influences of socio-political themes on this TV show.
Journalistic approaches in political-satirical TV shows in the USA

1 Abstract This thesis aims to examine the journalistic approaches in three American political satire television shows - The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight and The Late Show. The author searches the common features of the three examined shows, tries to characterize them, and place them into the media context of the United States of America. The author describes to the reader how these shows, through political satire, combine opinion journalism, investigative journalism and humour. Because this thesis deals with American shows, it mostly uses foreign professional literature. This work has two large parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical passage, the author tries to define satire as a genre, mentions its use in politics and the relationship satire plays between journalism and humour. The theoretical part continues with the description of the particular journalistic approaches used in these shows and contains the explanation of the position of the examined shows in regards to the approaches these shows use bordering between investigative journalism and comedic humour. The aim of the Master thesis "The Transformation of Czech political satire in TV broadcasting after year 1989" is to capture and describe changes of political satire in television shows over last 25 years on sample of six selected shows: Česká soda, Gumáci, S politiky netančím, Politické harašení, Stalo se and 168 hodin. Theoretical part of this work is trying to explain idea of satire itself and to introduce of the topic into more general historical context. Practical part is then, using semiotic analysis, aiming at what expression/aesthetic and thematically variables create satiric constructions in the level of visual picture, press and graphics, language level and music component. Last chapter is dedicated to offer political satire in TV broadcasting after 2010. This work is then connecting results of the analysis and findings from the theoretical part in the conclusion.
Czech political satire on TV and it's comparation with foreign countries

This thesis deals with the TV political satire. It characterizes the selected audio-visual session of the genre of the Czech and American productions. Programs from the Czech environment were Česká soda, S politiky netančím and Politické harašení aneb S politiky stále netančíme, 168 hodin and Kancelář Blaník. The American programs were The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and The Onion News Network. All these TV programs were initially characterized from formal and content points of view. Visual political satire in the Czech media

Thesis called Visual political satire in the Czech media shows different types of visual satire which appeared in Czech media during its history and places them in historical context. It examines the political satire in detail from the fifties of the twentieth century, when the communist regime in Czechoslovakia was established. But the largest space is dedicated to the digital age. It describes technological changes which influenced birth of a new kind of satire, photomontage. Thesis focuses on declared photomontage. At first, it shows montages that appear in traditional media and then it proceeds to the internet. Presently, the content of web pages with media theme is created by amateurs as well. Thesis focuses on the production of one such amateur who takes part in the online citizen journalism, Teo Adamy. He comments politics through his montages. By the analysis of his photomontages, we find out in which topics the author is interested and how he processes them. Thesis closely analyzes the category Celebrity/Poblitici and looks for motives that repeat in his images. The final output is comprehensive preview to author's creation.

AbstractAbstractAbstractAbstract This thesis presents one of the first attempts to uncover and analyze the phenomenon of immediately apparent digital photomontage born and developed in the context of the Czech internet, that does not attempt to simulate a photographic reproduction of reality, but instead to regularly comment on political events of the Czech Republic. Using an analysis of photomontages of Teo Adamy (aTeo), the thesis explores their specific hybrid means of expression and the methods through which it completely fulfills the essence of pictorial commentary. Besides describing the creative basis and inspirational founts of the montage artist, it also provides an in-depth insight into the category of the so-called pseudofilm, a specific part of aTeo's internet production, that consists of photomontages feeding off the medium of film, using meaningful parallels in film stories and pop-cultural film references, or even directly inserts chosen political representatives into well-known film scenes and thus draws upon universal mythological structures activated by popular films. Political satire in printed media in election year 2006 and 2010

This Thesis are dealing with analysis of political satire change during election periods in 2006 and 2010 in printed media (Právo, Lidové noviny and MF DNES). 1796 items were evaluated. In these media three artist in both years were publishing: in MF DNES it is Miroslav Kemel, in Lidové noviny Vladimír Jiránek and in Právo Vladimír Renčín. For political satire research content analysis was used, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Defined variables are used for grouping images. The research should accept/reject five hypothesis directed to topic frequencies (domestic, foreign, non-political), politicans shown as the target of satire and political tending of particular paper. The most popular target for political satire was Jiří Paroubek former leader of ČSSD due to his nature and physiognomy. This was true for MF Dnes and Lidové noviny. In Právo no concrete politican was drawn by V. Renčín in both years. In the first place topic Election was in 2006 in all papers, in 2010 only for MF Dnes it was Nr 1.
