Kárníková, Tereza ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Kulhánek, Adam (referee)
THE ABSTRACT OF THE DIPLOMA THESIS The Name of the Diploma Thesis: The motivation to lose the habit of smoking in patients terated for some other kind of addiction Abstract: Starting point: The prevalence of smoking in people addicted to other narcotics is usually 2 - 3-times higher than in common population. The same percentage of people addicted to tobacco is among patients treated in some in-patient treatment for people addicted to narcotics or gamblers. Simultaneous treatment of addiction to tobacco and other kinds of addiction is possible and is recommended. It seems to be also effective and favourable for treatment of other patient's addictions - it supports the improvement of physical and mental condition. The interest in treatment of addiction to tobacco often appears in patients. But the question is how much they are motivated and informed by the staff. There is no integrated schedule focused on breaking the habit of smoking in in-patient clinics for addiction treatment. Targets of Thesis: To discover the rate of addiction to nicotine in patients treated for some other addiction. To learn whether the opportunity for helping with losing the habit of smoking was offered to patients and whether they would be interested in it. To map their motivation for getting out of the habit of smoking during...
Evaluation of smoking prevalence in patients with Schizophrenia and Depression and the use of ambulance for treatment of tobacco addiction in Bohnice psychiatric hospital.
Havlíková, Petra ; Štěpánková, Lenka (advisor) ; Drbohlavová, Barbora (referee)
Background: The link between psychiatric disorders and smoking is a topic that has only begun the past few years ago. Many studies have shown a high prevalence of smokers among patients with psychiatric disorders which is roughly two or three times higher than in the general population. Despite this phenomenon, the smoking of patients with this diagnosis in the Czech Republic, especially in institutional care, is rather overlooked and often even encouraged. So far, there has been no uniform approach by staff to introduce the necessary, systematic programs, interventions, and smoking cessation training. Staff in these institutions often rely on the belief that these patients are not interested in professional help. Objective: The main objective of the research was to determine the prevalence of smoking in Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital in patients with schizophrenia and depression. The partial objective was to find out whether, and what intervention is provided by staff and what is the interest of patients in quitting smoking. Another aim of the work was to find access of healthcare professionals and patients to smoking cessation intervention in the hospital and then to check the current use of smoking cessation help at Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital. Methodology: A questionnaire survey was conducted...

Smoking cessation among patients in residential treatment for alcohol dependence
Adamíková, Žaneta ; Štěpánková, Lenka (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
Background: In the Czech Republic, alcohol and tobacco are the most widely used addictive substances. Although use of these substances is legal for those 18 years or older, they can lead to serious health consequences. Especially among alcohol (or other drugs) dependent persons in recovery, the prevalence of regular smoking compared to the general population is much higher. Nevertheless, in these settings within the Czech Republic, tobacco smoking is often overlooked and for the staff there is no standard approach for introducing the systematic programs for quitting smoking. It is often based on theory that these patients have no motivation or interest in professional assistance with quitting smoking. Objective: The primary objective of the research was to assess the motivation of patients dependent on alcohol and tobacco, currently undergoing the residential medium-term treatment to quit smoking. A secondary objective was to highlight the issue of smoking among these patients and find out what their view is on the possibilities of tobacco dependence treatment in the setting and whether they would be interested in professional assistance with quitting smoking. Methodology: Questionnaire-based research was conducted among patients in the 5 health care services for the addiction treatment throughout...

Tobacco dependence and psychiatric comorbidity Introduction: Because the smoking is a societal problem and the prevalence of smoking of psychiatric patients is 2 to 3 times higher than in the general population, the purpose of the bachelor thesis was to map these issues for patients in a psychiatric hospital in Havlíčkův Brod. Objectives: There were four objectives defined in the thesis: to determine the prevalence of smoking , to find the most common diagnoses for patients-smokers and to chart the aspects associated with smoking including health personnel attitudes, to assess their knowledge about smoking cessation possibilities and to offer basic advice and information material about smoking cessation to the patients. Methods: The data source was the records of patients hospitalized in the psychiatric hospital Havlíčkův Brod till the 3rd of February 2014. Actual research was carried out on patients with a diagnosis of F 10 and F 20 in the period from 3rd of February to 15th of June 2014. The research sample of the predominantly quantitative research included 200 patients with diagnoses F 10 and F 20 and 55 physicians working with psychiatric ill patients-smokers. The interview was intended only for smokers. It was not a representative sample. Results: Only a small proportion of smokers (8%) would seek professional helpwith smoking cessation. Awareness of the Centers for Toabcco-Dependent was low (25%). Smokers have information about a possible pharmacological treatment (27%) most frequently reported nicotine replacement therapy (73%). The greatest source of information about treatment options was television (68%), doctor or pharmacist at least (8% 4% respectively). Discussion: In the future it would be appropriate to extend...
Tobacco Dependence Treatment and Depressive Disorder. Treatment Outcomes in Patients with Depression History
Štěpánková, Lenka ; Králíková, Eva (advisor) ; Šteflová, Alena (referee) ; Tuček, Milan (referee)
Success rate of tobacco dependence treatment among patients with and without a history of depression Introduction: Higher prevalence of smoking among depressive patients, as well as higher risk of depression in smokers, are well documented. Views on treatment of tobacco dependence in this subgroup of smokers are controversial. Aim: A/ To compare the abstinence rate among smokers with or without a history of depression receiving treatment for nicotine dependence at one year follow up. B/ Factors associated with treatment success were evaluated and analysed. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1 730 smokers treated at our Centre for Tobacco-Dependent (CTD) between 2005 and 2010 was conducted. Patients were treated with a combination of psychobehavioural interventions and pharmacotherapy (nicotine replacement therapy, varenicline, bupropion or combinations). At one year follow-up smoking abstinence was biochemically validated by measuring expired CO. Results: 16.7 % (289/1730) of smokers currently, or had formerly, received treatment for depression. Based on the average Fagerström Test of Nicotine Dependence (FTND), most patients with a history of depression were heavily nicotine dependent with a score of 6.1, compared to 5.6 (p=0.010) among those without a history of depression. The CO validated success rate...
Application of the Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives (WISDM-68) for coaching in the domain of quitting smoking
Šmejkalová, Andrea ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is based on a succesfully defended master's thesis dealing with the possibility of using psychological coaching as a support method for smoking cessation. The theoretical section provides an overview of key information on the topics of coaching and smoking, with an emphasis primarily on the aspects applied in the qualitative research project, the description of which constitutes the content of the empirical section. On the basis of the author's preconceived original design which, in addition to the diagnostic and evaluation phases, comprised the essential stage of the three-month long coaching of nine smokers in different stages of the cessation process, the author sought to map the potential benefits, advantages and other aspects of the use of coaching as an innovative method, thusfar not commonly included among the established alternatives offered as smoking cessation intervention techniques. The main contribution of this thesis is a focus on The Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives (WISDM-68) and its use in smoking cessation coaching. The whole process is illustrated by the newly introduced sample case study. Keywords: coaching, smoking, tobacco dependence, smoking cessation, quitting smoking, smoking dependence diagnostics, WISDM-68, The Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking...
