ODA as an actor in the formation of the right and Czech conservatism
Brožová, Karolina ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
The thesis deals with the formation of the Czech conservative right with the Civic Democratic Alliance in the leading role. It describes how the party participated in the transformation of the political system and describes its most significant moments. Since the germs of right-wing thinking can be found in the communist environment, the thesis also captures the risks that this entailed at the time. The aim is also to capture the party's profiling on the political ground, so its basic political themes and electoral programmes, which were often difficult to grasp in political practice, will be portrayed. It therefore focuses not only on the party's achievements in a relatively short time interval, but also on the affairs that have had an impact on the party. From the first to the second section, the thesis discusses party theory, party families, and the two core ideologies that initially inspired the founders of the Civic Democratic Alliance in detail. The theoretical framework thus helps to understand the principles on which the party operated and the programmatic values it drew upon. From the third section onwards, the thesis analyses the Civic DemocraticAlliance in detail. It concludes by answering the main goals of conservatism and how this ideology took shape. It also assesses the role of the Civic...

The main goal of this thesis is to discover what paths lead young people to political participation, what political activities the respondents took part in, how they perceive the influence of influencers on political participation and how they experience the current political climate in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part, I focus on the definition of political participation and its types, factors influencing political participation, findings regarding the political participation of young people and existing knowledge regarding the influence of influencers on political participation. Šimková, Jana ; Rektorová, Lucie (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out, what role gender played in the media coverage of Danuše Nerudová's campaign for the presidential election in 2023. In the theoretical part, the concept of gender is explained as well as its connection to politics and how gendered language influences the political environment. Attention is paid to gender stereotypes, the historical development of women's representation in politics, and to specific obstacles that prevent women from being as active in public life as men. Specific impacts of stereotypes are shown through the examples of two well-known foreign female politicians, Hillary Clinton and Zuzana Čaputová. The context of the Czech presidential election in 2023, the campaign of Danuše Nerudová and the ways in which she herself has related to the issues of feminism and gender are then described. The methodological part presents the chosen research methods, qualitative and quantitative content analysis, and the media examined: Aktuálně, Deník Referendum, iDnes, iRozhlas, Echo24, Heroine, HN, Novinky, Reflex, and Seznam Zprávy. The qualitative research describes what the media most often focused on in relation to gender and the female candidate; the position of women in politics, criticism of Nerudová due to her lack of authenticity overconfidence,...
Factors of inequality and apartheid heritage in South African society
Moravcová, Tereza ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Doboš, Bohumil (referee)
The thesis deals with the theme of South Africa's transition from apartheid to the building of a democratic system through the African National Congress government. The party has been in power since the first all-racial elections held in 1994, but its initially high support has gradually declined. This is due to ineffective government policies aimed at reducing socio-economic inequalities caused by the apartheid regime, the enrichment of government officials from the state coffers and others. This is leading to changes in social sentiment and gradual changes in voting behaviour that may play a significant role in the future direction of the country. The first part of the paper will introduce the context of the issue. In order to understand the context, the country's modern history will be briefly presented, including key events and the government's policy documents on efforts to redress historical injustices. The second part will then provide a secondary analysis of electoral data, data from annual reports of specific policies and data from the South African census. The aim will be to assess whether the government is delivering on the promises it has made and the impact of its (non-)delivery on the socio-economic status of different social groups. ollowing this, the ANC's voting preference curve...
The motive of choosing the "lesser evil" in the first round of the Election of the President of the Czech Republic 2023 and its impact on the result
Vaníček, Jakub ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on strategic voting in the first round of the presidential election of the Czech Republic in 2023. In the theoretical part, the author describes the basic concepts of strategic voting and the psychological influence of electoral systems on voter's decision- making. The main goal of the thesis is to discover the extent to which strategic voting occurred in the first round of the presidential election in the Czech Republic in 2023. For this purpose, the Naše společnost - 2022 listopad dataset processed by CVVM Sociologického ústavu Akademie věd ČR is analysed in the practical part. The analysed dataset consists of 901 respondents, the share of strategic voters was measured on an adjusted sample comprised of 492 respondents. In this sample, a share of 5,89% strategic voters has been identified. This result has been recognised as comparable with the results of foreign research on this topic. The analysis indicates that strategic voters consider the advance of their chosen candidate to the second round of the election to be of similar importance as sincere voters. From the available data, Andrej Babiš has been identified as the candidate who received a higher number of votes in the first round of the 2023 presidential election thanks to strategic voting. The thesis outlines...
