Training and transfer effects of executive functions to regulation of emotions
Vlachynská, Kateřina ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis is focused on the effects of computerized executive functions training on emotion regulation and affective functioning. The theoretical part summarizes cognition-emotion integration and is based on cognitive neuroscience models suggesting that there are bidirectional links between cortical executive functions centers and cortical centers that regulate emotions. Based on process model of emotion regulation (Gross, 1998) it's supposed that it is possible to make interventions of emotion dysregulation also through cognitive, antecedent-focused strategies. These assumptions are linked with computerized executive functions training. Such training might have positive consequences for emotion regulation and emotion functioning, as it generate frontal activation (Klinberg et al., 2005). The study measures the potential effect of executive functions training on regulation of negative emotions. The main intervention is a personalized, computer-based cognitive training program BrainTwister. This program is widely used for clinical and diagnostics praxis and rehabilitation. To ascertain the everyday ecological validity of the cognitive training intervention and the emotion regulatory and affective consequences, emotion regulatory experiment (IAPS) together with mood and emotion regulation...
Executive functions-diagnostic and rehabilitation
Klucká, Jana ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee)
Executive function testing still appears to be very complicated for many reasons. In practice, we can meet the situations in which commonly used standardized neuropsychological tests do not reveal injury in executive functions, which is absolutely obvious in everyday life. The goal of the submitted research was to confirm a hypothesis whether getting the executive function testing closer to real life may contribute to their diagnosis specification. In the conducted research, the individual performance of the group comprising 29 persons with dysexecutive syndrome was compared with the individual performance of the control group of 29 healthy persons. The testees' performance was monitored in two test situations - at standstill (standard testing) and during noise load (real conditions simulation). In both test situations the identical tests of NEUROP-2 (KIQ, PAARE, GO/NO-GO, LISEQ, HANOI and NATE) were used. In compliance with the hypothesis, negative impact of noise on the performance of persons with dysexecutive syndrome was proved in the KIQ a HANOI tests. In both cases presented above, the testees with dysexecutive syndrome were characterized by statistically considerable performance degradation during the noise load. In the other utilized tests (PAARE, GO/NO-GO, LISEQ and NATE), the noise impact on the...

Burnout Syndrome in University Teachers - International Comparative Study
Černíková, Barbora ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the phenomenon of burnout in university teachers, who have been previously rather neglected in connection with this topic. The theoretical part provides an analysis of current knowledge regarding the development of the concept of burnout from the very early interest in this issue in the 1970s to the present, with emphasis being placed on the teaching profession, especially in the tertiary education sector. In the empirical part of the research, the assumption of different levels of burnout in university teachers in the former Eastern Bloc and Western European country was tested. This international study compares the burnout level in teachers from the philosophy faculties of Czech Charles University and German Universität Regensburg. In order to achieve a more holistic view of this topic, the levels of life engagement and depression have been studied as well. The data were collected with the help of Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, Life Engagement Test, Beck Depression Inventory and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Basic research assumption predicting differences in levels of burnout, life engagement and depression in Czech and German university teachers was confirmed in only one burnout subscale, namely the subscale of student-related burnout. Additionally, the...
