Title: Bereavement in people with developmental disabilities Author: Kristýna Štaffová Department: Department of Special Education Supervisor: doc. PhDr. Jan Šiška, Ph.D. Abstract This thesis is devoted to the topic of mourning of people with developmental disabilities. In this paper we focus on the positive influence of the grieving process before it starts, that means, how can we inform an individual with developmental disabilities in a sensitive way about an illness or a death of his beloved. In the introduction we describe bases which are characteristic for people with developmental disabilities and which are useful to consider when communicating bad news. Subsequent chapters are devoted to describing the preparation and process of telling bad news to people with developmental disabilities. The thesis is supplemented by practical examples for better representation of the discussed topic. The conclusion is dedicated to description of the grieving process of 3 persons with developmental disabilities. Evaluation of Method Using Cartoon Stories from School for Younger School-Aged Children with Behavioral Problems and Behavioral Disorders

The thesis deals with the topic of diagnostics in children with behavioral problems and disorders. In the theoretical part the author describes commonly used terminology and the width of issues related to caring for these children. The Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment Program is described and built on later in the practical section where the author introduces her own new method called "Children Together". The practical part of the thesis deals with action research aiming at improving author's practice in the field of special education and at evaluating the potential of the new method. The analysis of audio recordings from lessons and semi-structured interviews and two other supplementary research methods were utilized throughout the research. The outcomes of the research allow for a conclusion that the method "Children Together" can provide us with a volume of valuable assessment data on younger elementary-school-aged children. Towards the end of the thesis the author also identifies features of the method most valued by selected professionals, the ways how the method has been improved during the research and how it could be improved further on. Teacher assistant competences

Thesis "Teacher assistant competences" responds to growing number of teacher assistants in educational system and reflects still remaining ambiguities in delineating requirements on assistants' services and activities. The objective of thesis is on the basis of empirical findings define the basic competences of teacher assistant working in a regular basic school. In its theoretical part thesis works with legislative norms specifying the role of teacher assistant and with findings of relevant researches. The explorative part of thesis is based on qualitatively orientated methodology and processes data from eighty interviews realized with assistants, teachers, principals and pupils with special educational needs from twenty basic mainstream schools. Data in research were processed by classification, coding and schematization with using the form of framework analysis. From the research results author formulates the main outcome - suggested model of competences for teacher assistant professional standard.
Social disadvantage of secondary school student - the effect of disadvantage on education and possibilities of eliminating this phenomenon

This thesis focuses on the education of secondary school pupils who are socially disadvantaged. It presents the phenomenon of social disadvantage in the context of education and current legislation. It also describes the current situation and the causes of social disadvantage, particularly the role of the family, and also focuses on pupils and their families from socially excluded localities. A significant amount of space is dedicated to descriptions of the manifestations of social disadvantage in school, the diagnosis of social disadvantage, and the specific education of socially disadvantaged pupils, especially the principles of such education. The goals of this thesis are to demonstrate the effect of social disadvantage on secondary school pupils and to highlight possible solutions to this phenomenon within the education system, the possibilities for support in education, and the role of the school social worker in eliminating the impacts of social disadvantage in education. The thesis also contains case histories of socially disadvantaged female pupils as a demonstration of the professional and important work of the school social worker. Competence concept development in lifelong learning perspective

Currently, we are living in a time period that is full of changes in regards to our educational needs. These changes have caused increased societal demands on individuals, yet they hold out the possibility of success through continual learning and development. Globalization, the transition from an industrial economy to a knowledge economy, the exponential growth of information technology to bring together different social groups across society, and other factors are behind the important changes happening in our contemporary society. In so called knowledge society it is important to put individual at the center of the lifelong learning process and meet the individuals' need for further education in relation to individual demand. All this does not only put pressure on the education system but also on society and the business world. Business must create conditions and frameworks to accommodate their employees' 'growing skills and competence, and they must exploit the potential their employees bring with them. All this is reason why we don't talk about lifelong education but about lifelong learning.
