Glycodendrimers coated with N-acetyl-glucosamine and labeled with a fluorescent dye demonstrate special tropism to neogenerated endothelia in cancer capillaries. Same distribution was observed by confocal microscopy in the new vessels of rat embryo abdominal wall, as in placenta and yolk sack endothelia. Results suggests the presence of a commun target on evoluting endothelia, the nature of which is under investigation.

During carcinogenesis and cancer development tissues undergo to important modifications with creation of a specific cancer microenvironment. Locally, the immune system is challenged by tumor-secreted active biological molecules (eg. cytokines, growth factors, NO, lactic acid) that can impair the activation of an effective anticancer response. The use of glycodendrimers targeting immune cells of innate immunity can rescue the activation and stimulate the immune responses, operating through lectin-like receptors.

Masking oligosaccharide sequences can assist transformed cells to escape immune surveillance. N-acetyl-glucosamine coated dendrimers have binding affinity for NKR-P1 receptor and can also modify cancer cell glycosylation profile. Effects of treatment on immune cell subpopulations were analyzed in blood, lymphoid tissues and organs, and inside tumor in B16F10 melanoma bearing mice. Treatment enhanced tumor cell immunogenicity, and induced maturation,differentiation and homing of cytotoxic cells to tumor microenvironment.

Conjugates of N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide with doxorubicin containing human IVIg were used for palliative treatment in patients with advanced cancer. More thena 116 biochemical and immunological parameters were tested. A decrease of some parameters with patological values was seen, and physiological values were occasionally reached, including some TAA.

Introducing and adapting of automated systems of process control contribute to the technology optimisation both from the yield view and fermentation time saving. The substrate feed is controlled according to the actual catabolic need of microbial culture. The total yield did not increase significantly (1.4%, relative standard deviation 4%), but a positive influence on the fermentation time (minus 12%) was found.

Ligninolytic fungal cultures used for degradation of different organopollutants were characterized and their extracellular enzyme levels correlated with biodegradation rates. Better correlation could be observed in liquid media cultures compared to the cultures grown on solid substrates.

Activities of extracellular enzymes in the cultures of ligninolytic fungi degrading different organopollutants were compared. These activities were compared with biodegradation rates and it was found that correlations are much better on solid than in liquid medium.
