Slávková, Gabriela ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Mudra, Aleš (referee)
The Master of Zvíkov Lamenting of Christ In the 1960' s this anonymous master was called František Kotrba, according to the work of Lamenting of Christ which was found in Zvíkov Chapel. The Master was active in the first quarter of 16th century and worked in the area of south-west Bohemia (Horažďovice, Kašperské Mountains), where quite a lot of his works were found. We rank the carver among the school constituency of the Master of Žebrák Lamenting of Christ who was one of the most important artists of Podunaj school in Bohemia, working probably in České Budějovice. Secular form works through the works of the Master of Zvíkov Lamenting of Christ. In comparison with the Master of Žebrák, the carvings are mostly moderate in the expression and partly simplified. On the other hand, the relief style is absolutely clear and precise, so the polychrome on the statues could be very thin. In this bachelor assignment I aimed to place the Master of Zvíkov Lamenting of Christ into the context of time, ask and answer the questions of his existence, but my main task was to make a catalogue of the most important works attributed to this master so far.

Contributions to the History of the Gothic Sculpture in Moravia. Artistic Relics from the First Half of the 14th Century outside the Circle of Master of Madonna from Michle and Theirs Other Life This Dissertation thesis deals about several statues that were curved probably in the first half of the 14th centuries. All these statues were modified in the Baroque period. Fortunately these baroque forms show to us theirs gothic origin. The Madonna from cathedral in Brno, Madonna from church in Křtiny, Madonna from Předklášteří next to Tišnov and Madonna from Troskotovice are deponated in The Moravian Gallery in Brno, Madonna from Benedictine monastery in Rajhrad, Madonna from Rouchovany, Madonna from church in Žarošice, and two statues of saints (probably St. Catherine and Barbara) are extraordinary works of Gothic sculpture. There are a lot of literature referring to these wood-carves, but problems with dating will be never solve, because medieval notes concerns about this statues are not preserved and there are lots of opinions abou the dating. Some of these statues stated in the middle of the Christian pilgrimage. There came many pilgrims every year. Cult of Madonna is important phenomena of the European Baroque and thus rightfully deserve the attention paid to them by the author genetic, typological...
Master of Madonna from Michle and his workshop
Hrabovská, Tereza ; Homolka, Jaromír (advisor) ; Mudra, Aleš (referee)
The Master of Madonna from Michle and his workshop By the progressive art-historical research on Czech, Austrian and Lusatian area several wooden sculptures from 14th century had been discovered. The sculptures are so style-similar, that it is almost sure, that if they haven't been created by the same author, they have surely arisen from the same workshop. They are ascribed to anonymous author, who is called after his most important sculpture - The Madonna from the parish church in Michle, Praque - The Master of Madonna from Michle. Because no documents about his identity or place of his activities are kept, it is possible only to determine the most probably hypothesis according to the analysis and localization of his works. To this Master the most quality works are ascribed, other works to members of his workshop and descendants. It is very difficult to point out, which works have been created by the hands of the Master or in his workshop, and in this question the researchers are not in unity (and never have been). It is not possible to result only from the typology of the sculptures, because this Master was an artist always looking for new ways of artistic expression. This work tries to bring the review of discovered works of this Master so far and to resume the opinions on their belonging to the...

Prokůpková, Eva ; Mudra, Aleš (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
"PORTA COELI" CONVENT IN PŘEDKLÁŠTEŘÍ U TIŠNOVA AND WEST PORTAL OF ITS CONVENT CHURCH The Tišnov convent Porta coeli ("gateway to heaven") was probably founded in 1232 by the Czech Queen Konstancie, daughter of the Hungarian King Béla III and widow of the Czech King Przemysl Otakar I, who was greatly supported by her sons - the Czech King Wenceslas I and Moravian Margrave Przemysl. Of the church notables it was particularly Robert, bishop of Olomouc, who rendered his support during the construction of the convent. The building progressed quickly, sponsored by the prominent figures of the Przemyslid state. Earliest core of the convent was constituted by the convent church and convent buildings, cloister and chapter house, enclosing wall with a moat and defensive towers, a residential building by the entrance gate and St Kateřina's Chapel in the northwestern part of the courtyard (torn down just before the convent was closed by the Emperor Joseph II in 1782), which was finished at very earliest stage. Most important buildings of the medieval convent were built in the years 1232 - 1240. The early Gothic complex of buildings which survives basically intact today, ranks among the most valuable architectural works built in the Czech state in the second quarter of the 13th century. The convent church on...

Woodcarving in 13th century in Bohemia and Moravia. The chapters from the beginnings of woodcarving tradition in Central Europe
